Amino Acids Overview
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructionsAspartic acid is a non-essential amino acid that participates in many biochemical reactions relating to energy and protein. Preliminary, though conflicting, animal and human research suggested a role for aspartic acid (in the form of potassium and magnesium aspartate) in reducing fatigue during exercise.1 However, most studies have found aspartic acid useless in improving either athletic performance or the body's response to exercise.2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Schizophrenia
Dose: Refer to label instructionsL-Theanine is an amino acid present almost exclusively in the tea plant. It has been found to have mood-enhancing and relaxing properties. In a double-blind trial that included patients with schizophrenia or a related condition (schizoaffective disorder) who were taking antipsychotic medications, the addition of 400 mg per day of L-theanine for 8 weeks significantly improved anxiety and various other psychiatric symptoms, compared with a placebo. L-Theanine was safe and well tolerated.1

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. The essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Another amino acid, histidine, is considered semi-essential because the body does not always require dietary sources of it. The nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine. Other amino acids, such as carnitine and taurine, are used by the body in ways other than protein-building and are often used therapeutically. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea that is said to help relieve stress. Beta-alanine has been used to prevent fatigue during exercise.

I use this product during my workouts to make sure that my muscles get the immediate recovery as I'm still working out. I like many of the flavors they provide, except if I had to choose my least favorite I'd say Icy Blue Razz is the worst one. Watermelon is my favorite by far. Best thing about this product is that it doesn't contain sugar or stimulants.

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Fruit Punch:

I was selected by Cellucor to provide detailed feedback on their BCAA product Alpha Amino. Being a long time Cellucor advocate I knew they wouldn't disappoint. A small detail before the review: I used more water than was listed on the package (About a liter) but that was for a lighter flavor.

All flavors were great. Not overwhelming on the tongue at all. No weird after tastes. Made drinking water like a treat. Kind of resembled Gatorade flavors. It mixed very well, with no left over residue or foaming. The best thing about this product is its effects. It left me feeling a lot less sore than without it, so I knew it was working. I did not, however, get prolonged energy from this product, so I wouldn't recommend it for running.
This is a very solid product, giving competition to my favorite BCAA product. Would try again.

I've always been a fan of cellucore products and always use c4 as my go to PW and they had sent me some sample packs of the alpha aminos and I really hadn't ever taken any aminos and I will have to say I've been missing out they really did me good! I was sent 3 flavors but the watermelon was amazing so of course needed more so I went and I got a 30serving. Im two weeks in and I love it my recovery is better and I stack with my c4 fruit punch before the gym and it does the job!

I was sent a couple of samples of Alpha Aminos from Cellucor and was very pleased with them. One of the first things I look for in BCAAs is whether they contain glutamine, and Alpha Amino does - so already started out on the right foot! I loved the Icy Blue Razz and Watermelon. Great taste and mixability. I've had BCAAs that get all foamy and kind of...uh...nasty? when you mix them and these just dissolve right up. I'm currently cutting and find taking BCAAs to be extremely beneficial and have tried many brands. I find them to help with energy and recovery, especially when on a cut. Safe to say Cellucor's Alpha Amino's will definitely be my next purchase in a full 30-serving tub!

                  Cellucor Alpha Amino Review

Hello everyone, I am going to be reviewing Cellucor's Alpha Amino. I was selected by Cellucor to review this product and they sent me the samples to do so. Even so, this review will contain only my honest opinions. But first, let me give you a little background information about myself. I'm 24, I have been lifting/working out seriously for a little over 2 years now. I played baseball all throughout high school. I have used various pre workout, protein and amino acid products. I am currently doing Jim Stoppani's Shortcut to Size program. I used Alpha Amino during my workouts and I used a full packet in 4-8 oz water. Enough about me, let's get down to the review!

Taste - All of these flavors were good. I had Icy Blue Razz, Watermelon, and Lemon Lime. My favorite being the Lemon Lime. Least favorite is the Icy Blue Razz, but then again, I'm not a fan of most things that are blue. Mixed with the recommended amount of water, 4 to 6 oz, the taste was fantastic. Even with a little more water, the taste was still pretty good. I would recommend all these flavors.

Mixability - This is a big one for me. If it wouldn't mix well, I wouldn't be able to drink it during my workout. My stomach gets sensitive during a workout so that powdery/chalky consistency wouldn't have gone well! That being said, this stuff mixes wonderfully. After shaking for a short period of time it was like I just bought flavored water. No powder was left over.

Hydration - Another key point for me is that this product did an outstanding job with hydration. They added Chia Seed Extract and Raw Coconut Concentrate to help with thirst quenching and it does that very well. Also, I did not taste any coconut at all, which is good because… gross.

Endurance - Using Alpha Amino definitely gave me an extra push during my workout. I could feel that my muscles weren't getting as tired as fast as previous days and they were recovering at a slightly faster rate. This allowed me to power through my workout quite well.

Recovery - Alpha Amino was not the cure all to muscle soreness, however, it did reduce it by a pretty good amount. I still had minor soreness, but nothing compared to the previous few days.

All in all, I'd say Alpha Amino is a pretty good intraworkout supplement. I can't comment on it as a pre or post drink since I only used it during my workout. I would recommend it and will probably be buying some for myself.

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Fruit Punch:

I like to go running a lot and I was getting tired of all the salty tasting sports drinks that make you feel sick instead of better after a workout. CelluCore was sending out free samples of amino acid, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Now understand when I say sports drink, I've had them all. This was by far hands down the best tasting amino acid based sports drink I've ever had. It helps a lot when you're doing cardio, because when you drink water with no amino acid properties you will drink too much water and start to feel bloated during a workout.

This helps a lot because all you need is a few sips after every set and you're good to go. Hydrates you more than you think from just a few sips, which for me is a awesome thing!

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Fruit Punch:

I received samples of Alpha Amino from Cellucor to review. I normally sip my aminos to rehydrate while I am working out and I like a light taste. I mixed Alpha Amino with 8 ounces of water and it tasted great but when mixed with 20 ounces of water it had more of the light taste that I look for. It mixed easily when shaken in a plastic water bottle and there were not floaters. I love the taste of all the flavors I tried but Lemon Lime was my favorite based on personal preference. Alpha Amino helped fuel my workouts and I could notice an endurance. The ingredient profile of Alpha Amino is top notch and will definitely buy more again in the future.
