Amino Acids Overview

Amino Acids Overview
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructionsAspartic acid is a non-essential amino acid that participates in many biochemical reactions relating to energy and protein. Preliminary, though conflicting, animal and human research suggested a role for aspartic acid (in the form of potassium and magnesium aspartate) in reducing fatigue during exercise.1 However, most studies have found aspartic acid useless in improving either athletic performance or the body's response to exercise.2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Schizophrenia
Dose: Refer to label instructionsL-Theanine is an amino acid present almost exclusively in the tea plant. It has been found to have mood-enhancing and relaxing properties. In a double-blind trial that included patients with schizophrenia or a related condition (schizoaffective disorder) who were taking antipsychotic medications, the addition of 400 mg per day of L-theanine for 8 weeks significantly improved anxiety and various other psychiatric symptoms, compared with a placebo. L-Theanine was safe and well tolerated.1

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. The essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Another amino acid, histidine, is considered semi-essential because the body does not always require dietary sources of it. The nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine. Other amino acids, such as carnitine and taurine, are used by the body in ways other than protein-building and are often used therapeutically. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea that is said to help relieve stress. Beta-alanine has been used to prevent fatigue during exercise.

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Lemon Lime:

I received samples of Alpha Amino from Cellucor to review. I normally sip my aminos to rehydrate while I am working out and I like a light taste. I mixed Alpha Amino with 8 ounces of water and it tasted great but when mixed with 20 ounces of water it had more of the light taste that I look for. It mixed easily when shaken in a plastic water bottle and there were not floaters. I love the taste of all the flavors I tried but Lemon Lime was my favorite based on personal preference. Alpha Amino helped fuel my workouts and I could notice an endurance. The ingredient profile of Alpha Amino is top notch and will definitely buy more again in the future.

I got these as samples from Cellucor and they work. I took these before working out like I used to on C4 (cycling off it for a little over 3 weeks). Provides that little extra pump that I need and kept me hydrated. Overall taste was good.

These are the best BCAAs I've ever tried---they mix well, taste great, and work phenomenally! I take them on an empty stomach during or after a workout to help avoid muscle soreness. It's actually helped me conquer two-a-days without getting tired.

The Lemon Lime flavor is my favorite, as it's light and not too sweet.

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Lemon Lime:

I signed up to try a sample of Alpha Amino back in December and was given a single serving sample of 2 flavors from Cellucor. The sample I received had 2 servings one was Watermelon, and the other Lemon Lime.
My second dosing was the lemon lime flavor. This was my second sample, with the first being watermelon, so I knew how much water to mix it with this time. Once again, I tried 1 serving in 18 oz water. Taste was spectacular. Reminded me of Lemon Lime Gatorade, minus the salt taste. Very refreshing.

I use BCAA's primarily as an intra workout supplement, but they can be used before/during/after workouts.
I did not notice any difference intra workout other than not feeling as thirsty as normal. This, obviously, can be attributed to Alpha Amino's hydration blend.
My workouts typically last anywhere from 45-60 minutes, and by the end of my workout i had finished off my serving of alpha amino. Honestly... it was gone within the first 30 minutes of the workout. It was so tasty i couldnt stop drinking it. Taste receives a solid 10/10.

The next couple of days were great, not the normal soreness that I normally get, even with the use of other BCAA products. Effectiveness/Recovery gets a 10/10.

Another big plus about Alpha Amino is how simple it is to mix. You can stir it, shake it, blend it, whatever you want. It doesn't matter, it blends easily no matter how you blend it. Most other BCAA products leave unmixed powder or clumps, not Alpha Amino. 10/10 for Mixability.

Now that we've gone over that, lets get to the real details of Alpha Amino, the stuff that sets it apart. The Ingredients.
Alpha Amino contains 5 Grams of BCAA's, comprised of 3, yes THREE different forms of Leucine. One of the 3 forms is Leucine Nitrate. Leucine bonded with a Nitrate molecule, helping to increase pumps, allowing the delivery of the BCAA's to the muscles to help kick start recovery.
Another key blend in alpha amino is the Hydration Matrix. Chia seed extract along with Raw coconut water blended with Electrolytes help to ensure that you stay hydrated during whatever event you are using Alpha Amino.
The other Blend present in Alpha Amino is described on the bottle as the "Alpha Amino Complex." It is essentially 2.5 grams of Amino Acids, with the leading one being Glutamine, another vital amino acid for recovery.
        I give the ingredients a 9.5/10

This is yet another great product from Cellucor. The combination of flavor, mixability and ingredients makes this product worth whatever they ask for it and worth picking up over any other BCAA product on the market.

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Lemon Lime:

I had actually beta-tested the lemon-lime flavor of Alpha Amino before it came out, and needless to say, it initially left something to be desired. However, Cellucor listened to the consumers and went ahead and changed the flavoring of the lemon-lime. It pays to listen. The new flavor is much improved, mild citrus, with only a hint of an aftertaste. Not too sweet and not too tart. As others have mentioned, mixability is incredible, with no floating particles like some other amino acid products. The inclusion of leucine-nitrate provides good vascularity, while there was never really a "pump" per se. I recommend using this during fasted cardio, as this is where the product truly shines.

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Lemon Lime:

I was lucky enough to receive a sample tub of Cellucor Alpha Amino. As I am just finishing the tub, I thought I'd share my thoughts on the product.

Taste: 5/5, this stuff tastes like any normal juice or koolaid mix you would buy. I had the lemon lime flavor to try. There are no chemical flavors like some products tend to have. It tastes good enough that I have caught my girlfriend sneaking a glass of it just to drink t

Mixability: 4/5, probably the easiest to mix of any amino acid powders I have tried. I have been using one scoop to about 10-12 ounces of water, just to be sure it all dissolves. You don't need to worry about huge piles of dry floating powder with this stuff.

Dosage: I've been using one scoop, as I am ~150 pounds. Two scoops might be necessary for anyone over about 200 pounds or so.

Results: 5/5, I have noticed decreased DOMS by using this product both during and immediately after workouts. I get the most DOMS from squats and chest workouts, so I paid attention before and after starting this product to try to make it a controlled experiment. This products seems to make the soreness go away within 2 days, where it normally would take 3 days without it.

Best time to take it: I have seen good results with both during a workout and immediately after. I use a little extra water, so I sip it throughout my workout.

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Lemon Lime:

                  Lemon Lime flavor 8/10
                  - Not usually a huge fan of lemon/lime, but this one felt more like well done limeaide. Wasn't that impressed with the cor-BCAA lemon/lime. Same bit of tart/sour as the watermelon
                  watermelon 10/10
                  - delicious, a bit tart/sour, had that "something" that made you want to keep drinking more of it. Not to sweet just excellent watermelon flavor. Liquid candy.

                  mixing 9/10
Lemon/lime had some left over residue/ white flakes, but mostly due to amt of water I used which is a personal choice. With watermelon I first used 6oz~ of water to get a idea of the taste, which i loved. Then added more water [10oz]shook it some more and the sediment issue went away.

                  Misc
                  - Both had that "thirst quenching effect IMO, perfect for during the gym or after/during a run to keep you hydrated. Maybe its that raw coconut. Big fan of coconut water, which to me also has that "ahhh" refreshing sensation

                  recovery
-To me i did not notice a difference with just two uses. though i didnt get as much dry mouth during the gm as i normally do, always a plus

Thanks to cellucor for selecting me and others for sampling this fine product

Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Lemon Lime:

This product is another stellar product from the cellucor line, The profile has everything you could want, they have the original bcaa then this comes out and its another good bcaa product. It has your 5 grams of standard BCAA but some nitrates of them, then 2.5 of amino acid mix they call it, last it has a hydration formula which is clutch for any athlete in general. The flavoring of this is not as strong IMO as the other bcaa product CORE BCAA, but still very good only reason this gets a 9 on flavor is because the other is a little bit stronger, but this is a COMPLETE formula for bcaa product, I highly suggest this for anyone looking for a new AMINO product!

They are packed with tons of BCAAs in addition to several other amino acids such as glutamine, citrulline, arginine, etc. Lastly, the flavor on these is unreal. Cellucor has delivered once again. My favorite flavor is lemon lime, as it tastes almost exactly like lemon lime gatorade!
