Amino Acids Overview

Amino Acids Overview
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructionsAspartic acid is a non-essential amino acid that participates in many biochemical reactions relating to energy and protein. Preliminary, though conflicting, animal and human research suggested a role for aspartic acid (in the form of potassium and magnesium aspartate) in reducing fatigue during exercise.1 However, most studies have found aspartic acid useless in improving either athletic performance or the body's response to exercise.2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Schizophrenia
Dose: Refer to label instructionsL-Theanine is an amino acid present almost exclusively in the tea plant. It has been found to have mood-enhancing and relaxing properties. In a double-blind trial that included patients with schizophrenia or a related condition (schizoaffective disorder) who were taking antipsychotic medications, the addition of 400 mg per day of L-theanine for 8 weeks significantly improved anxiety and various other psychiatric symptoms, compared with a placebo. L-Theanine was safe and well tolerated.1

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. The essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Another amino acid, histidine, is considered semi-essential because the body does not always require dietary sources of it. The nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine. Other amino acids, such as carnitine and taurine, are used by the body in ways other than protein-building and are often used therapeutically. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea that is said to help relieve stress. Beta-alanine has been used to prevent fatigue during exercise.

      Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I received this as a sample from Cellucor for review. I enjoyed the watermelon flavor. Wasn't overly sweet, went down smoothly. I sipped on it intra-workout, and I definitely had more energy & strength, was able to lift heavier & get in a few extra reps. It mixes easily with very little sediment at the bottom of the shaker, so I didn't have to constantly agitate the mixture. I also noticed less soreness the next day. I would recommend Alpha Amino and use it again.

I have tried a few different BCAA products but this is easily my favorite. Mixes really easy and tastes great. Usually take one serving and add it to my water in my nalgene bottle to drink during my workout and then take another serving after my workout.

              Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I was sent three samples of Alpha Amino so that I could test it out and review it for myself. I have taken numerous supplements and haven't found one that aids with recovery, not even protein. But when I tried this, there was a noticeable difference. The first day I worked out then took it right after. I mixed the entire packet with a little less than half a bottle of water. Great taste by the way. The day after working out was great, not soreness whatsoever. So I was more than eager to work out again. I did and with improved resting time. I didn't have to take long breaks in between to get my energy back. This was after just one day! After that I took it for two more days with similar results. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone in need of something to help with recovery.

                    Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

Amazing tasting product and very easy to mix. I usually drink 1-2 2 scoop servings everyday, regardless of my workouts. When I usually drink it an hour or two after I workout, while I am in classes. I stack it with Cellucor C4 Extreme before my workouts, Cellucor BCAAs during my workout, and Cellucor CorPerformance Whey Protein post workout. While I've been using this product I have gained about 5pounds of muscle over the Summer since about July (it is now Sep 11). Also I have noticed less soreness since I started using this product on my off-days and as a general diet supplement to help keep my amino acid levels up throughout the day. I find the Watermelon and Icy Blue Razz flavors to be the best tasting, they taste very much like their respective Jolly Rancher flavors. The Lemon Lime flavor is also tastes very good. The Fruit Punch flavor wasn't bad, but it also was not the best.

                    Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I signed up to try a sample of Alpha Amino back in December and was given a single serving sample of 2 flavors from Cellucor. The sample I received had 2 servings one was Watermelon, and the other Lemon Lime.
I immediately tried the product, as it was a lifting day when i recieved it and was anxious to test it out. My first dose i mixed the watermelon with about 10 oz of cold water. The flavor was very sweet, so i decided to dilute it a bit further. I ended up going with about 18 oz of water per 1 serving. This was spot on. Not to sweet, not to dull, just right.

I use BCAA's primarily as an intra workout supplement, but they can be used before/during/after workouts.
I did not notice any difference intra workout other than not feeling as thirsty as normal. This, obviously, can be attributed to Alpha Amino's hydration blend.
My workouts typically last anywhere from 45-60 minutes, and by the end of my workout i had finished off my serving of alpha amino. Honestly... it was gone within the first 30 minutes of the workout. It was so tasty i couldnt stop drinking it. Taste receives a solid 10/10.

The next couple of days were great, not the normal soreness that I normally get, even with the use of other BCAA products. Effectiveness/Recovery gets a 10/10.

Another big plus about Alpha Amino is how simple it is to mix. You can stir it, shake it, blend it, whatever you want. It doesn't matter, it blends easily no matter how you blend it. Most other BCAA products leave unmixed powder or clumps, not Alpha Amino. 10/10 for Mixability.

Now that we've gone over that, lets get to the real details of Alpha Amino, the stuff that sets it apart. The Ingredients.
Alpha Amino contains 5 Grams of BCAA's, comprised of 3, yes THREE different forms of Leucine. One of the 3 forms is Leucine Nitrate. Leucine bonded with a Nitrate molecule, helping to increase pumps, allowing the delivery of the BCAA's to the muscles to help kick start recovery.
Another key blend in alpha amino is the Hydration Matrix. Chia seed extract along with Raw coconut water blended with Electrolytes help to ensure that you stay hydrated during whatever event you are using Alpha Amino.
The other Blend present in Alpha Amino is described on the bottle as the "Alpha Amino Complex." It is essentially 2.5 grams of Amino Acids, with the leading one being Glutamine, another vital amino acid for recovery.
                    I give the ingredients a 9.5/10

This is yet another great product from Cellucor. The combination of flavor, mixability and ingredients makes this product worth whatever they ask for it and worth picking up over any other BCAA product on the market.

                    Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I signed up to try a sample of this product the Alpha Amino which was back in December. I believe I got it like mid January right around their launch of the product. The sample I received had 2 servings one was watermelon, and the other was lemon lime. Somehow I miss placed the lemon lime, but thats a different story. I ordered 3 on the 30 servings got 2 watermelon and 1 icy blue razz. As far as dosage for the servings, what i do is take 1 full scoop with about 8 oz of ice cold water during my workout, keeps me from being thirsty, and so far has stopped me from feeling as sore compared to without a bcaa or intra supplement. I then after consuming my cor-performance whey post workout will have another serving 1 full scoop with 8oz of cold water as relax and rest before going to bed. So far I have to say muscles recovering from soreness much quicker than without alpha. I did a full week with no alpha, and then a full week with alpha so far. Also not getting cramps during yogaX which has always happened around the 55 minute mark for me when doing it. I give the dosage a 10/10 i like the taste so i use 2 servings everyday, but 1 would do me if i could only have it as a intra supp. The taste of the watermelon, isn't the strongest, but its delicious in my opinion so i give it a 9/10 on the taste alone thinking of replacing my small soda usage with this period since its way healthier. As far as effectiveness, I honestly give this a 9.5/10 simply because i don't believe anything you take is gonna leave you never feeling the burn if your pushing yourself hard, but this will surely ease alot of any soreness and pain related to working out that i have done, and at 155ish need to reweigh going beast mode for 1 1/2 hours each day can after no exercise in nearly a year can leave me worn out. Mix-ability is my last one i give it a 9.5/10 every time i get a few pieces that don't mix perfectly with my blender bottle, but if i use warmer water it does so just fine. Overall I rate cellucor alpha amino a 10/10 assuming I could pick between any other amino's on the market right now for the same asking price, I would be hard pressed to leave this amino product. An lastly had to come back and edit this for just this side mention, I am 23 and occasionally drink on my one day off which is Friday each week. I way over did it last friday, drank myself just a 1 serving of alpha in 12 oz of water out my blender bottle. An oddly enough my hangover was gone within the hour, that kinda of zombie feeling you have from dehydration was gone with it, and i was able to enjoy my day of work that saturday. Gonna chalk that up to the re-hydration formula that's in alpha amino.

                      Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

Alpha Amino is a great supplement all around. Shaking the powder in a water bottle was enough to dissolve every particle. The flavoring was pretty good and the benefits of using Alpha Amino were nothing short of amazing. I used this as an intra which I enjoyed using rather than post workout. I was able to shorten my rest periods to tackle the sets quicker. My fatigue was noticeably lessened and had more energy to put into my reps.
