Ornithine Alpha-Ketoglutarate

Ornithine Alpha-Ketoglutarate
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

        Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I was sent three samples of Alpha Amino so that I could test it out and review it for myself. I have taken numerous supplements and haven't found one that aids with recovery, not even protein. But when I tried this, there was a noticeable difference. The first day I worked out then took it right after. I mixed the entire packet with a little less than half a bottle of water. Great taste by the way. The day after working out was great, not soreness whatsoever. So I was more than eager to work out again. I did and with improved resting time. I didn't have to take long breaks in between to get my energy back. This was after just one day! After that I took it for two more days with similar results. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone in need of something to help with recovery.

              Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

Amazing tasting product and very easy to mix. I usually drink 1-2 2 scoop servings everyday, regardless of my workouts. When I usually drink it an hour or two after I workout, while I am in classes. I stack it with Cellucor C4 Extreme before my workouts, Cellucor BCAAs during my workout, and Cellucor CorPerformance Whey Protein post workout. While I've been using this product I have gained about 5pounds of muscle over the Summer since about July (it is now Sep 11). Also I have noticed less soreness since I started using this product on my off-days and as a general diet supplement to help keep my amino acid levels up throughout the day. I find the Watermelon and Icy Blue Razz flavors to be the best tasting, they taste very much like their respective Jolly Rancher flavors. The Lemon Lime flavor is also tastes very good. The Fruit Punch flavor wasn't bad, but it also was not the best.

              Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I signed up to try a sample of Alpha Amino back in December and was given a single serving sample of 2 flavors from Cellucor. The sample I received had 2 servings one was Watermelon, and the other Lemon Lime.
I immediately tried the product, as it was a lifting day when i recieved it and was anxious to test it out. My first dose i mixed the watermelon with about 10 oz of cold water. The flavor was very sweet, so i decided to dilute it a bit further. I ended up going with about 18 oz of water per 1 serving. This was spot on. Not to sweet, not to dull, just right.

I use BCAA's primarily as an intra workout supplement, but they can be used before/during/after workouts.
I did not notice any difference intra workout other than not feeling as thirsty as normal. This, obviously, can be attributed to Alpha Amino's hydration blend.
My workouts typically last anywhere from 45-60 minutes, and by the end of my workout i had finished off my serving of alpha amino. Honestly... it was gone within the first 30 minutes of the workout. It was so tasty i couldnt stop drinking it. Taste receives a solid 10/10.

The next couple of days were great, not the normal soreness that I normally get, even with the use of other BCAA products. Effectiveness/Recovery gets a 10/10.

Another big plus about Alpha Amino is how simple it is to mix. You can stir it, shake it, blend it, whatever you want. It doesn't matter, it blends easily no matter how you blend it. Most other BCAA products leave unmixed powder or clumps, not Alpha Amino. 10/10 for Mixability.

Now that we've gone over that, lets get to the real details of Alpha Amino, the stuff that sets it apart. The Ingredients.
Alpha Amino contains 5 Grams of BCAA's, comprised of 3, yes THREE different forms of Leucine. One of the 3 forms is Leucine Nitrate. Leucine bonded with a Nitrate molecule, helping to increase pumps, allowing the delivery of the BCAA's to the muscles to help kick start recovery.
Another key blend in alpha amino is the Hydration Matrix. Chia seed extract along with Raw coconut water blended with Electrolytes help to ensure that you stay hydrated during whatever event you are using Alpha Amino.
The other Blend present in Alpha Amino is described on the bottle as the "Alpha Amino Complex." It is essentially 2.5 grams of Amino Acids, with the leading one being Glutamine, another vital amino acid for recovery.
              I give the ingredients a 9.5/10

This is yet another great product from Cellucor. The combination of flavor, mixability and ingredients makes this product worth whatever they ask for it and worth picking up over any other BCAA product on the market.

              Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I signed up to try a sample of this product the Alpha Amino which was back in December. I believe I got it like mid January right around their launch of the product. The sample I received had 2 servings one was watermelon, and the other was lemon lime. Somehow I miss placed the lemon lime, but thats a different story. I ordered 3 on the 30 servings got 2 watermelon and 1 icy blue razz. As far as dosage for the servings, what i do is take 1 full scoop with about 8 oz of ice cold water during my workout, keeps me from being thirsty, and so far has stopped me from feeling as sore compared to without a bcaa or intra supplement. I then after consuming my cor-performance whey post workout will have another serving 1 full scoop with 8oz of cold water as relax and rest before going to bed. So far I have to say muscles recovering from soreness much quicker than without alpha. I did a full week with no alpha, and then a full week with alpha so far. Also not getting cramps during yogaX which has always happened around the 55 minute mark for me when doing it. I give the dosage a 10/10 i like the taste so i use 2 servings everyday, but 1 would do me if i could only have it as a intra supp. The taste of the watermelon, isn't the strongest, but its delicious in my opinion so i give it a 9/10 on the taste alone thinking of replacing my small soda usage with this period since its way healthier. As far as effectiveness, I honestly give this a 9.5/10 simply because i don't believe anything you take is gonna leave you never feeling the burn if your pushing yourself hard, but this will surely ease alot of any soreness and pain related to working out that i have done, and at 155ish need to reweigh going beast mode for 1 1/2 hours each day can after no exercise in nearly a year can leave me worn out. Mix-ability is my last one i give it a 9.5/10 every time i get a few pieces that don't mix perfectly with my blender bottle, but if i use warmer water it does so just fine. Overall I rate cellucor alpha amino a 10/10 assuming I could pick between any other amino's on the market right now for the same asking price, I would be hard pressed to leave this amino product. An lastly had to come back and edit this for just this side mention, I am 23 and occasionally drink on my one day off which is Friday each week. I way over did it last friday, drank myself just a 1 serving of alpha in 12 oz of water out my blender bottle. An oddly enough my hangover was gone within the hour, that kinda of zombie feeling you have from dehydration was gone with it, and i was able to enjoy my day of work that saturday. Gonna chalk that up to the re-hydration formula that's in alpha amino.

Alpha Amino is a great supplement all around. Shaking the powder in a water bottle was enough to dissolve every particle. The flavoring was pretty good and the benefits of using Alpha Amino were nothing short of amazing. I used this as an intra which I enjoyed using rather than post workout. I was able to shorten my rest periods to tackle the sets quicker. My fatigue was noticeably lessened and had more energy to put into my reps.

                  Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I received a sample of this a little bit ago. I figured it would be just like any other intra workout product, so I was definitely not expecting much out of it before hand. That all changed very quickly. Lets start off with the aroma/scent of Alpha Amino. I received lemon-lime and watermelon. They do not have a very strong smell at all actually. In fact it is very dull. Don't let that discourage you. Once the powder hits the water, things change very fast. They start to smell true to their name. Let's move on to the profile. The most eye catching addition to its profile is the Leucine Nitrate. This solves leucine's solubility issue in water while also being a nitrate at the same time. It is a win-win situation. Nitrates are vasodilators (better knows as supplements that bring the pump) and aid in performance at the gym as well. ALSO, leucine itself is one of the most important amino acids out of all. It is the anabolic amino acid! This is due to its ability to stimulate the mTOR pathway which is involved in regulating protein synthesis and is essentially what we are interested in. The fact that alpha amino includes 3 types of leucine in this product is phenomenal. All in all, it's addition of leucine nitrate is a gem and stands the most in my opinion. It has multiple benefits in a product such as this. Other ingredients that stood out to me were micronized taurine and raw coconut water. The taurine itself aids electrolyte balance and proper utilization of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and the raw coconut water helps the user stay hydrated through their workout as well. These two work together synergistically in this product and they do it very well. As you can see, those are just a few of the ingredients that I am very highly fond of in this product. The electrolytes, and the three different proprietary blends in this are all great additions that contribute to a darn good intra workout. Now lets get to how I used it and what I felt when using this product. I tried this product two ways. I first decided to mix it in about 20 oz water and slowly sip it throughout my workout and then tried another method which was to drink this all pre-workout. I much rather prefer drinking it intra-workout. I love having something extremely tasty to be sipping on while doing my workouts. I felt very hydrated when supplementing with this product and did not feel the need to continuously fill my shaker cup with water in order to maintain hydration with all the intensity I was putting forth in my training sessions. My recovery did feel slightly better with this product as well. It took a few weeks of supplementing with it in order to see some more noticeable changes besides the hydration aspect, but I felt like it was all there. Everything that it was supposed to do, it effectively DID and it is all that I could ask for out of this product. Let's move on to the taste aspect of this product. After trying this product, it has been safe to say that it is in my top three favorite tasting intra workout products. Better yet, I will proudly state that this is THE best tasting amino product on the market. The flavors are so very balanced and juice like that it blows my mind. The savory, sweetness, and slight tartness all play together to create a fantastic melody of flavors in your mouth. It's hard to believe you are actually not drinking some quality juice sometimes! When mixed with a good amount of water (16-20oz) is when this product really shines. Try it out guys. You won't be dissapointed.

                    Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I been using Alpha Amino for about a month now. It used other amino sups in the past but they only done half of what alpha amino has accomplished. I have seen an increase in muscle growth and recovery which I will have to credit alpha amino since nothing in my diets or workouts has changed. Also, I noticed that since I been using Alpha amino during my workout or before my cardio I am able to do a lot more. Flavor wise it might not be the best but it does mix really well. Also, since using Alpha amino on daily basis I noticed less soreness after an intense workout. Also, after a cardio day I do not feel the same kind of muscle tightness as I used to; which I have not done as much cardio as I used to in the past. Overall, I highly recommend alpha amino and will stick with it. I used amino acids from other brands and none have match Alpha amino. The flavor is decent. Other watermelon flavors have been pretty good, but this time Cellucor did not do well with their flavor blend.

                      Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I got a couple tubs of 30 serving of Alpha Amino. Ive been using them for just over a week now and heres my thoughts on this product.

                      What is Alpha Amino?
Alpha Amino is the ultimate sports drink/BCAA product built with amazing flavors and a premium formula that fuels endurance, hydration and recovery.
                      -Alpha-BCAA Matrix 5000mg (Notice the 3x Leucine?)
                      -Alpha-Amino Complex 2500mg
                      -Alpha-Hydration Formula 2500mg
-Includes Concentrated 3x LeucineTM, a combination of Micronized L-Leucine, Leucine Nitrate and Leucine Peptides

                      Taste: 10/10
I chose Watermelon for both tubs on my flavor. Ever had a Jolly Rancher Watermelon flavor? Thats what it reminds me of. Exactly like I expected it to. Was very easy to sip on and I could see myself sipping on this no problem at work, in the car, etc. I mix between 8oz-12oz of water typically and the flavor is spot on.

                      Mixability: 10/10
As you can see from the label it says to use at least 8oz of water which I do and I had zero problems with it mixing. Fill shaker with water, add a scoop, give a about 4-5 shakes and BAM! Completely dissolved for me. Havent had an issue of left over particles or anything like you do with most supplements. Either that or I need to get my eye sight checked out.

                      Side Effects
I did not notice anything out of the ordinary here. Course, never had either while taking BCAA's or any type of Aminos. So this product checks out here for me.

                      Price: 8/10
All supplements tend to be a bit pricey, but Alpha Amino is $40 for 30 servings here at gnc.com for gold card members. Not to bad, but Id like to see it a bit cheaper if possible.

                      Results: 10/10
The part youve been waiting for. I was truly impressed with this product. BCAA's and Aminos have always been 3rd or 4th on my list when buying supplements since I dont always have the extra cash to throw around. But after taking this for a week and really noticing a difference 1 and 2 days after leg day, it may move up to the top. I went heavy this past week with legs and I woke up the next day and felt like I hadnt even trained legs. I was wondering if I had slacked in my workout. I write my workouts down so I double checked, nope, Alpha Amino really did their part. I also noticed less trips to the water fountain, so I think Cellucor may have found something with this hydration formula. In closing, Alpha Amino is an awesome product and I def recommend it to anyone who takes lifting serious.
