Amino Acids Overview

Amino Acids Overview
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructionsAspartic acid is a non-essential amino acid that participates in many biochemical reactions relating to energy and protein. Preliminary, though conflicting, animal and human research suggested a role for aspartic acid (in the form of potassium and magnesium aspartate) in reducing fatigue during exercise.1 However, most studies have found aspartic acid useless in improving either athletic performance or the body's response to exercise.2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Schizophrenia
Dose: Refer to label instructionsL-Theanine is an amino acid present almost exclusively in the tea plant. It has been found to have mood-enhancing and relaxing properties. In a double-blind trial that included patients with schizophrenia or a related condition (schizoaffective disorder) who were taking antipsychotic medications, the addition of 400 mg per day of L-theanine for 8 weeks significantly improved anxiety and various other psychiatric symptoms, compared with a placebo. L-Theanine was safe and well tolerated.1

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. The essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Another amino acid, histidine, is considered semi-essential because the body does not always require dietary sources of it. The nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine. Other amino acids, such as carnitine and taurine, are used by the body in ways other than protein-building and are often used therapeutically. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea that is said to help relieve stress. Beta-alanine has been used to prevent fatigue during exercise.

    Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I used Alpha Aminos while working out yesterday. I was able to work out 30mins for legs, 30 mins of Pilates, and later in the afternoon walked for 30 mins. Today, I feel no pain. Usually, after leg day I would be sore. So I am definitely a believer in this product.

It looks just like Cellucors C4 so I was a little nervous about drinking it. But it isn't as harsh. The watermelon was easy to get down, not too sweet.

    Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I recently received 3 free samples of Cellucor Alpha Amino in the mail. This is my first time taking a BCAA so I cannot compare its effectiveness to competitors. I really liked the flavor of the icy blue razz. It was easy to mix. I did not see a difference in hydration levels or energy but I can say that I do feel less soreness in my legs the day after using this product. Overall I would repurchase the icy blue razz flavor. The watermelon flavor is not something I would purchase again. I felt like there was a weird aftertaste that the blue razz didn't have. The effectiveness was still the same though.

      Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

I use this before I workout. It mixes very well within seconds, no chunks afterwards, tastes very good like one of those watermelon candies you get at a store. There's nothing bad I can say about this product. Hands down, probably the best and one that I will be using very often from now on

I put a scoop in about 32 oz. of water and sip it throughout the day. It tastes like a Watermelon Jolly Rancher. My friend recommended it to me and I am glad she did :) It's a must have! You can drink it during your workout, or after. I have nothing to say about this product! Thanks Cellucor, yet again for making me happy. You never seem to disappoint :-p

          Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

Cellucor nails it with another solid amino supp. I had the pleasure of trying this on its first run. The two flavors I had the opportunity of trying were watermelon and lemon lime. Watermelon flavor was very refreshing and spot on as I expected from Cellucor. The lemon lime flavor was disappointing, could be because I do not enjoy lemon lime flavors but I found it to have a strange aftertaste. Now on to the profile, I train fasted so an amino product is very important. I've went through a number of different amino supps, Cellucor packs a lot in this one. What stuck out to me most was the BCAA Matrix and Hydration Formula. The 3 forms of leucine are very unique to this product & would be my main reason for recommending this product. The leucine nitrate gave me a nice pump during my workout, a very nice feature which I have found into other amino product. Definitely helped great with my recovery. The hydration complex with raw coconut water and chia seed extract is very refreshing. Electrolytes from my aminos > electrolytes from any "sports drink". No issues with mix ability here. All in all if your looking to try a new amino, this is a nice stray away from the run of the mill.

            Comments about Cellucor® ALPHA Amino™ - Watermelon:

The flavor tasted pretty good however it was not as delicious as the normal Cellucor products, but it still tastes better then half the products out there. The mix-ability was great, just a little left at the bottom and the rest mixed like a charm, and no foam. I really like the ingredient label of this product, I like how they threw in a hydration formula because I notice I get dehydrated while a I work out and it makes me weaker so by adding this I was stronger and felt good. What I also like how there is 3x Leucine in this product, I am firm believer in this amino because its been show to increase protein synthesis which results in better muscle growth! There is 5g of Bcaas, which is good I prefer to have anywhere from 5-10g. After drinking this I did notice less soreness and also more endurance while I worked out! The only thing I could complain about in this product was, I wish it would taste as good as other Cellucor products, more Bcaas, and probably $5-10 dollars cheaper. Otherwise it is a great product! I also tried one of first lemon lime batches and it was messed up so I will be rating the lemon lime flavor as soon as I get it!
