Amino Acids Overview

Amino Acids Overview
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructionsAspartic acid is a non-essential amino acid that participates in many biochemical reactions relating to energy and protein. Preliminary, though conflicting, animal and human research suggested a role for aspartic acid (in the form of potassium and magnesium aspartate) in reducing fatigue during exercise.1 However, most studies have found aspartic acid useless in improving either athletic performance or the body's response to exercise.2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Schizophrenia
Dose: Refer to label instructionsL-Theanine is an amino acid present almost exclusively in the tea plant. It has been found to have mood-enhancing and relaxing properties. In a double-blind trial that included patients with schizophrenia or a related condition (schizoaffective disorder) who were taking antipsychotic medications, the addition of 400 mg per day of L-theanine for 8 weeks significantly improved anxiety and various other psychiatric symptoms, compared with a placebo. L-Theanine was safe and well tolerated.1

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. The essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Another amino acid, histidine, is considered semi-essential because the body does not always require dietary sources of it. The nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine. Other amino acids, such as carnitine and taurine, are used by the body in ways other than protein-building and are often used therapeutically. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea that is said to help relieve stress. Beta-alanine has been used to prevent fatigue during exercise.

      Comments about Cellucor® Alpha Amino™ - Watermelon:

Obsessed with this product. I drink it like 3 times a day :) So delicious. BEST BCAA's I've tried. Zero calories, mixes amazing, tastes AMAZING (all 3 flavors are fantastic). Its been hard for me to find a good BCAA that doesn't leave a nasty after taste or starchy mouth; BUT I FOUND IT :D

          Comments about Cellucor® Alpha Amino™ - Watermelon:

I was given the great opportunity by Cellucor to sample Alpha Amino for free. As usual, Cellucor does not disappoint, and I was overall very impressed with Alpha Amino.
Taste: I received the watermelon flavor. I am not a huge fan of watermelon, but I enjoyed the taste. It is just sweet enough: I used one scoop in about 16 oz water. It is very refreshing, especially during a workout, and there is no bad aftertaste.
Mixability: This product mixes well. I added one scoop to 16 oz water in a plain water bottle and shook to mix. Only in the very last sips did I encounter some floating particles.
Dosing: I have used this product in multiple situations, and it has worked well every time. I consume it during workouts both in the morning on an empty stomach and later in the day after a granola bar. I have never experienced any side effects.
Recovery: I used Alpha Amino for some relatively tough workouts. While I did not notice any drastic changes in my recovery, I felt ready and motivated for my workout the next day. Sipping it between sets also kept me hydrated and able to keep going.
Overall, this is a high quality product. It is a good support for my workouts, and keeps me hydrated and energized, and ready for more.

            Comments about Cellucor® Alpha Amino™ - Watermelon:

I was lucky enough to be sent this product to review by Cellucor, however I have used their last generation variation in the past. Bottom line is it wasn't the first and certainly won't be the last.

What everyone usually wants to know when it comes to a nutrition supplement is "Does it taste good?" or "can I stomach it?". Ab-so-lutely. First of all, it tastes like gains and joy. Second, (although I've been told I have an iron gut) it's surprisingly easy to get down and keep down.

If you're reading this you've probably sampled BCAA's of some sort before, but Cellucor is the only brand I've found that takes the game one step further. You aren't just consuming amino acids, but also an ingredient called "glycerol monostearate" which has been proven to aid in hydration - and if you paid any attention in any biology class, you'll know water is the one thing your body can't go without. And when it comes to hard, consistent training this is especially true for performance and recovery.

I personally dump a scoop of my Alpha Aminos in a gallon jug of water and sip on it throughout the day. Additionally, I also mix a scoop into my shaker bottle and drink it at the gym.

This is something you really shouldn't go without. Get it and never look back.
