Health Notes

Whey Protein

Whey Protein
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Athletic Performance
Dose: 20 grams daily up to 1.2 grams of per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

Osteoporosis
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Some whey proteins may reduce bone loss.1 Milk basic protein (MBP) is a mixture of some of the proteins found in whey protein. A preliminary trial found that 300 mg per day of MBP improved blood measures of bone metabolism in men, suggesting more bone formation was occurring than bone loss.2 A double-blind trial found that women taking 40 mg per day of MBP for six months had greater gains in bone density compared with those taking a placebo.3 No osteoporosis-related research has been done using complete whey protein mixtures.

Obesity
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Whey protein may aid weight loss due to its effect on appetite. In a preliminary study, people were given 48 grams of either whey protein or milk protein (casein). Whey consumption resulted in more hunger satisfaction and reduced the amount of food eaten 90 minutes later compared with casein consumption.1 However, a double-blind study found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs body weight per day of whey protein for 12 weeks along with a low-calorie diet and a strength training exercise program lost the same amount of weight and body fat as did a control group that followed a similar program, but took a casein supplement instead of whey protein.2

Whey protein is a mixture of some of the proteins naturally found in milk. The major proteins found in whey protein include beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin. Whey protein has one of the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores (PDCAAS; a measure of protein bioavailability) and is more rapidly digested than other proteins, such as casein (another milk protein). 1

Comments about RAW HARDCORE GNC Beyond RAW® RAVAGE™ - Fruit Punch:

This is the first preworkout I've tried, and I really like the extra energy and focus it gives me. It's not an overwhelming amount of energy, but it's enough to make me feel like I want to get something done and if there happens to be some dumbbells lying around - well there you go. It doesn't mix well, so I have to add an extra 4 oz of water so it tastes like watered down Koolaid. This is a great intro to the preworkout world.

Comments about RAW HARDCORE GNC Beyond RAW® RAVAGE™ - Fruit Punch:

I was informed on this product by the worker I usually see at my local store. This was shortly after the product was re-introduced to the public, after being re-formulated by the creators. At the time many people were complaining about the test and its effectiveness. She stated that they claim to have changed all of that. Unfortunately, they didn't. I would hope that the flavor they landed on was not an "improvement" from before, because it was pretty bad. The powder did not dissolve very well in water, so if you don't constantly mix or shake up your drink, you'll be left with a pretty big amount of sediment at the bottom. It was very ineffective as well. I could feel a slight boost to my workout, but that was very short lived. I have taken other products, and have had better results, even from products that I didn't think were the best either gave better results than this one. I would've liked to have seen stronger results with muscle recovery as well. I understand that this isn't a requirement for a "pre" workout supplement, but it would be nice to have, as other products do offer that. All in all, I would say that for the price of this product, you can spend your money on something that will provide better results for your workout.

Comments about RAW HARDCORE GNC Beyond RAW® RAVAGE™ - Fruit Punch:

It's perfect for use as a preworkout. I typically take it 30 minutes prior on my heavy days. The big plus about this is that it gives you that added pump that most supplements lack. Perfect for Bi's/Tri's. If it wasn't for the fact that it doesn't mix well and has an awful taste I'd use this as my norm.

Comments about RAW HARDCORE GNC Beyond RAW® RAVAGE™ - Fruit Punch:

I use this product as I used other ones like C4 or assault half an hour before doing sport.
It gives me the weired feeling on the skin (jizzzzz)
But it doesn't increase anything even by 10%. I have tried it for a week but nothing I will try for one more week if it is the same I will return it for another GNC product since I am at least sure that GNC products are safe.I would have used ithis if it gave me even 20% pump but it doesn't.
It taste great I had a lot of problem with terrible taste of assault and also C4. This one is delicious

I have taken several pre-workout products!! This is a great product for lasting energy! I use this 5x a week. This product is very gritty however and does cause an upset stomach very often. It is important to take at least 30 min. prior to workout for the best result and I try to eat a small serving of carbs right before drinking to help with my stomach.

I have used the original formula for every workout for the past two years. I recently bought this new formula and have to say I am incredibly disappointed. On my second try, I wanted to leave the gym after half an hour because I felt so sick to my stomach and had zero extra drive to keep me pushing. Not only that, but when I returned home, instead of feeling refreshed and energized, I felt tired and cloudy headed. Please take this garbage off the market.
