Health Notes

Black Horehound

Black Horehound
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Cinnamon has been used historically for the treatment of various menstrual disorders, including heavy menstruation.1 This is also the case with shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris).2 Other herbs known as astringents (tannin-containing plants that tend to decrease discharges), such as cranesbill, periwinkle, witch hazel, and oak, were traditionally used for heavy menstruation. Human trials are lacking, so the usefulness of these herbs is unknown. Black horehound was sometimes used traditionally for heavy periods, though this approach has not been investigated by modern research.

This European mint family (Lamiaceae) plant now grows in North America and on other continents as well. The leaf and flower are used medicinally. This plant should not be confused with white horehound, which acts differently.

Comments about GNC On-The-Go-Blender - Black:

I purchased this product before Christmas and I started using it in January daily as I make smoothies for breakfast most mornings. Sadly the blender just stopped working in the middle of one of my smoothies in early March. So I purchased the same blender as it was a decent price $19.99 and I liked the usage I had gotten from it. Sadly 2 days ago my 2nd blender AGAIN has stopped. I'm sad as I really like this blender, but again as some of the other reviews have stated the material is cheap. I also had the same issues with the rubber ring coming out of place. My blender cups are still in good condition so that's a good thing, but not my blender. I do have a Magic Bullet and I like it as well, but wanted the back up. I am considering purchasing a blender/juicer at the moment, but we shall see.

Comments about GNC On-The-Go-Blender - Black:

I got this unit because I was looking for something like a nutri-bullet without the ridiculously high price tag. I have had my eye on this blender for a little while and I have to say I am happy i purchased it. For the price, I think this is a good little unit. I read reviews here before purchasing so I proceeded with caution the first few uses. I cut up all the fruit that I put in it with my smoothies and put the ice at the bottom of the cup so it would be at the top of the blender and then blended after the easier fruit/etc. Seems to work great for me and my family. We have used this blender a lot rather than pulling out the big heavy duty blender and it works. You can tell its cheap china construction..... but it was only twenty bucks... on the up side - the bottles are really thick walled and durable. So, I look at it this way, even if the blender craps out in a year I have two really nice quality bottles that will last a long time. Overall, its a good buy. I think it is good for the money and would recommend it.

Got this as a Christmas gift. Worked great while it lasted. The gasket on the blade has a habit of coming loose. Finally got chopped up in the blade yesterday which must have done in the motor. This morning it's dead. Price is nice but I guess you get what you pay for. Not sure I'll buy another. Not sure anything out there is any better. Quality is a thing of the past in this country.

Comments about GNC On-The-Go-Blender - Black:

Until yesterday I have used one of these blenders for over a year with no problem. The gasket does come loose but it hasn't given me a problem. Yesterday the metal blade on the mixing arm broke and I can't find a replacement part. GNC does sell additional blender bottles but as far as I know they don't sell any other parts. I'm happy with the use I got out of the $32 I paid for the blender (I got the deluxe pack) but the quality and lack of parts means you will probably use it for awhile and have to buy a new one. Overall I would buy another one for the current $22 price but I would prefer if GNC sold some common replacement parts.

Comments about GNC On-The-Go-Blender - Black:

I like that it is easy to use and the motor is strong enough to break down frozen fruit. however, both cups that came with the set leak and the rubber seal on the inside of the the blender blade came loose during operation and melted into the shake which means the machine can no longer be used. with out the rubber seal the blade mechanism leaks and is useless. it started off as a great idea but i would suggest going with another brand or spending more money in hopes of better quality.

Loved this product at first but I haven't even had it for a month and one of the cups already broke. The company should think of having replacement cups to be purchased as needed.

Comments about GNC On-The-Go-Blender - Black:

I bought this because my magic bullet had broken and I was looking for an affordable, compact blender for my on-the-go needs and tiny, New York apartment. I used it daily, sometimes twice daily, to make kale smoothies and was thrilled - until the motor unexpectedly broke. My smoothies were not very thick and whenever it happened was a mystery to me: I didn't discover that the motor didn't work until I went to use it and it...didn't work.

As has been mentioned in other reviews, the seal broke as well. This happened the first time I washed the blade. For the record, the seal came off SO easily that I assumed it must have been made to be removable, as inconvenient as it was.

For reference, I was given the Magic Bullet as a high school graduation present (the idea being that it would be great for my dorm room). It didn't break until I was three years out of college.

The final note to this sad tale is that my job keeps me so busy, I didn't even OPEN the thing until well after the return policy expired, and warranties are only valid if you keep the box it came in, which is inconceivable in my Manhattan apartment!

Comments about GNC On-The-Go-Blender - Black:

I bought this thinking it would be perfect to keep at work. It works great, but one of the blender cups was accidentally dropped on the ground. Of course it cracked wide open, and can't be used anymore. Now I find out that you can't purchase replacement cups. If I want to keep using the blender, I have to go buy ANOTHER BLENDER. Good product, but if you purchase one, you'd better put glue on your hands before handling any of the pieces.
