Health Notes

Yohimbe

Yohimbe
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

A tincture of yohimbe bark is often used in the amount of 5 to 10 drops three times per day. Standardized yohimbe extracts are also available. A typical daily amount of yohimbine is 15 to 30 mg. Obesity
Dose: Take under medical supervision: enough to supply 5 mg of yohimbine four times per day

The ability of yohimbine, a chemical found in yohimbe bark, to stimulate the nervous system, 1, 2 and to promote the release of fat from fat cells,3, 4 has led to claims that it might help weight loss by raising metabolic rate, reducing appetite, or increase fat burning. Although a preliminary trial found yohimbine ineffective for weight loss, a double-blind study found that women taking 5 mg of yohimbine four times per day along with a weight-loss diet lost significantly more weight than those taking a placebo with the same diet after three weeks.5 However, a similar study using 18 mg per day of yohimbine for eight weeks reported no benefit to weight loss compared with a placebo.6 A double-blind study of men who were not dieting reported no effect of up to 43 mg per day of yohimbine on weight or body composition after six months.7 All of these studies used pure yohimbine; no study has tested the effects of yohimbe herb on weight loss.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

The ability of yohimbine, a chemical found in yohimbe bark, to stimulate the nervous system,1, 2 promote the release of fat from fat cells,3, 4 and affect the cardiovascular system 5 has led to claims that yohimbe might help athletic performance or improve body composition. However, a double-blind study of men who were not dieting reported no effect of up to 43 mg per day of yohimbine on weight or body composition after six months.6 No research has tested yohimbe herb for effects on body composition, and no human research has investigated the ability of yohimbine or yohimbe to affect athletic performance. Other studies have determined that a safe daily amount of yohimbine is 15 to 30 mg.7 However, people with kidney disorders should not take yohimbe, and side effects of nausea, dizziness, or nervousness may occur that necessitate reducing or stopping yohimbe supplementation.

Parts Used & Where Grown

Yohimbe is a tall evergreen forest tree native to southwestern Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, and the Congo. The bark of this African tree is used medicinally. There are concerns, however, that the tree may be endangered due to over-harvesting for use as medicine.

Comments about GNC Yohimbe 451™:

I can't say anything about it's use for ED as I'm a woman. I was however recommended this product for its ability to boost energy. I was very excited to try it since I've been struggling with fatigue. I took it and was ready for the get-up-and-go, well it must have got up and went because there wasn't even the slightest boost in my energy level. I continued taking it and will continue until I run out as some things take a while to build in your system, but if you are looking for an energy boost I wouldn't make this my first recommendation. Also in a prior comment someone said it made their female companion have "certain" feelings, I didn't experience that.

    Comments about GNC Yohimbe 451™:

Every time I take this, I break into cold sweats. I get really cold and can't warm up, almost like when you have the flu. Just when I think the side effects are wearing off, I get gasy like very bloated and constantly burping. Do not think the stuff does anything for e.d., etc.

At 50 years old the erections are not what they used to be. Took my first dose with dinner in Mexico and we hit the bed after diner. All is what I can say is rock hard. Felt like 18 again. Went for the second round within a couple minutes. The wife had to tap out after the second round. I was wired all night and tore it up again the next morning. Wow.

    Comments about GNC Yohimbe 451™:

I had taken yohimbe while in my 30's with no ill effects, in my 50's however the 451 is way more than I was ready for. It would be great for weight loss, because you don't want to eat, but as far as helping with helping your member get to full hardness, I can not say at this point. Way to much jitters, had to drink a half pint of vodka just to get to sleep. Took the first pill at 2:30 in the afternoon, and I work till 12:30, and was still jittery. GNC needs to make this in a smaller Does.

      Comments about GNC Yohimbe 451™:

I bought Yohimbe 451 a few months ago and have only taken about 5 pills. First off, it does work on that certain area. Quite well, in fact. My wife took one, too, and she felt "different" down there; she, however, was up all night, which I too experienced. The cons may totally outweigh the pros. If you are going to take Yohimbe 451, take it on a full stomach and take it in the morning. I found the pill causes me to be very jittery, wired, sweaty, nauseous, and causes sleeplessness. Taking it in the morning after breakfast diminishes these effects to some degree, but not completely; the pill still seems to have a good effect even after many hours. I learned the hard way not to take it before exercise; spent a good deal of time thereafter (playing ice hockey) losing my cookies for 2 hours on the bench. I am giving thought to seeing if I can cut one of the pills in half. Regardless, I am now trying Vitalikor, which for me doesn't seem to produce the beneficial effects to the full extent that Yohimbe 451 does (but it does do something good), however I have had no ill effects from the Vitalikor.

I don't think I'll bother with Yohimbe 451 again at least at this dose. Could not sleep at all I guess I took it too late in the evening, 1 hour prior to activity. Wife was asleep before I felt the effects. I did not like the jitters either. Maybe I'll try the half dose as others have tried or suggested.

Wow, the first time I used this I felt like I was unstoppable....for about 30 minutes. Then I started having palpitations. Do not use this before cardio. For weight lifting though, it's great. I opened up the capsule and dumped half of it out, put the cap back on and took it. This has nearly the same benefit of the full dose with maybe 10% of the side effects. Do not take within 6 hours of bedtime though. Please change this to 225mg GNC, I think that would be a better dose.
