Long summer days and nights often lead to a loosening of weeknight bedtimes. In back-to-school season, it's a good idea to get reacquainted with a regular bedtime a couple weeks before the academic year actually starts. Even modest sleep loss can take a toll on students, and create added challenges for children with attention-deficit or learning disabilities.

If you are having trouble kick-starting your family bedtime routines, here are a few reminders to help kids get better sleep:

  1. Be consistent. Stick to a regular bedtime.
  2. Avoid eating late. If dinner is late, keep it light. Eating a big meal just before bed can make it hard to fall asleep.
  3. Encourage activity. Make sure your child has plenty of physical activity and time outside during the day.
  4. Be mindful about bedtimes. Develop a relaxing bedtime routine. This may include reading your child a story or giving them a warm bath. Make toothbrushing a calming self-care ritual, engaging reluctant children with oral hygeine products in their favorite flavors or sporting beloved characters.
  5. Unplug. Try turning off computers and television an hour or more before bedtime. Screen time close to bedtime can interfere with sleep quality. Experiment with turning off all wireless devices in your house before bedtime. Some children appear to be especially sensitive to the type of radiation emitted by routers, laptops, and other wireless devices.
  6. Talk to your doctor. If your child takes medications regularly and has difficulty sleeping check in with your pediatrician. Certain medications, including some decongestants, asthma medicines, and stimulants used to treat attention-deficit disorder (ADD), may contribute to sleep problems.

    Im a bad insomniac, trouble falling asleep, trouble staying asleep, and I wake up to a pindrop. I am a fond lover of ambien, also became quite addicted to it. It would be ok if i didnt have children but it really is not safe at all, i was sleep eating even waking up with my head in my plate-knew then i had a problem. Without a sleep aid i have no chance at restful sleep but i needed something that would not put myself or my kids at risk, so i reluctantly tried this sleep aid at the suggestion of the manager of my local gnc and i was pleasently surprised. It does not have that instant off switch that ambien on an empty stomach did but it helped me relax and fall asleep faster and when i do wake up i can return to sleep easier. I would recommend taking it an hour before bed. A little groggy in the morning but not bad at all. This is the answer i was looking for.

    I've been using this prouct for about a month,because i have problems falling to sleep and staying asleep. Honesty, within 30 mins you do start feeling sleeping and fall asleep fast. The down side is if you wait to long to go to bed it doesn't work as fast. Also, it does not keep me asleep which is what i really need. I do still wake up 2-3 times during the night. I really don't want to take perscription med. so for know this works the fastest for me so i'll keep using it. everything else out there that is over the counter takes to long to work.

      As most young people my age, I'm hesitant to take supplements or medications. However, recently I had trouble getting to sleep due to day-to-day stresses taking place in my life and I needed something to help me get some good sleep. The lack of sleep was only increasing my stress. I came across Luminite and thank goodness for it! I managed to get 8 solid hours of sleep and I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to go. I wasn't groggy when I woke up and it literally only took a few minutes to fall asleep after taking a pill about 30 minutes before going to bed. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get quality sleep! You won't be disappointed!
