Multivitamins May Protect Men Against Cancer

Multivitamins May Protect Men Against Cancer
Multivitamins May Protect Men Against?Cancer?

Men taking the multivitamin were diagnosed with 8% fewer cancers overall
Many Westerners are concerned that they may not be getting all the nutrients they need everyday for optimal health, which has made multivitamins a popular choice for many people. Study results on multivitamins often conflict, with some showing benefits, and others finding either no benefit or even potential harm. Now, much-anticipated results from a large, randomized, controlled trial of multivitamins have been released, and this one falls on the side of benefit, showing a modest but significant decrease in cancer occurrence for men who take a basic, daily multivitamin.

The ideal study population

Researchers randomly selected 14,641 male physicians to receive a daily multivitamin-mineral supplement or placebo for approximately 11 years. The physicians were 50 years or older, and 9% had a previous history of cancer. Other factors, including age, height and weight, tobacco and alcohol use, diet, other medications, and family history of cancer were similar in the supplement and placebo groups.

The multivitamin provided around 100% of the daily value for most essential vitamins and minerals, with a few exceptions. It contained no iron, and for vitamins E and B12, the multivitamin provided significantly more than 100% of the daily value. For vitamin K, biotin, calcium, magnesium, and chromium, it provided significantly less than 100%. The supplement contained some additional nutrients, including lutein and lycopene.

Moderate multivitamin, less total cancer

Men taking the multivitamin were diagnosed with 8% fewer cancers overall than men in the placebo group.

There were no significant differences between the supplement and placebo groups in terms of specific cancer types, such as prostate and colorectal cancers. There were no significant differences in the risk of death due to cancer between the two groups.

Finding balance

The study multivitamin was similar to "common," moderate-dose products available in any supermarket or pharmacy. Given that past studies have suggested multivitamins may increase cancer risk, these findings are reassuring. However, according to lead study author Dr. J. Michael Gaziano, "It would be a big mistake for people to go out and take a multivitamin instead of quitting smoking or doing other things that we have a higher suspicion play a bigger role, like eating a good diet and getting exercise."

Keep this in mind as you consider our tips on creating your own cancer risk reduction plan:

  • Be modest. Steer clear of mega-doses, and follow the American Cancer Society's advice: eat a balanced diet, and if you take a supplement, choose a balanced multivitamin that contains no more than 100% of the daily value of most nutrients.
  • Seek the experts. A person's diet may get out of balance for a variety of reasons, such as illness, nutrient depletion or malabsorption caused by a drug, medical condition, food intolerance, or allergy. If this describes you, discuss your diet with your doctor or dietitian to identify specific nutrients that may be missing.
  • Consider context. The study population was healthy, older males, most of whom don't smoke, and many of whom eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly. If you smoke, are obese, or have additional risk factors for cancer, heart disease, or other chronic disease, these findings may not apply to you.
  • Get bang for your buck. Regardless of whether you take a multivitamin, you can never go wrong by adopting basic cancer prevention strategies: avoid tobacco, drink alcohol modestly or not at all, move regularly, eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, use sunscreen consistently, and maintain a healthy body weight.

Comments about M2 MARKED™ Maximum Nutrition Daily Pack:

First time user for a vitamin pack of this sort, and man am I glad I got these! I tried different ways on taking the pills, but I find them most effective when taken all at once and with food. I found myself with more energy, a stronger focus in the gym and at work, and an overall better version of myself. I have slight knee pains, and with the addition of the omega-3's, my knee pain has gotten much better. Not 100% but much better than a month ago. I will definitely be buying another pack when I'm done!

Comments about M2 MARKED™ Maximum Nutrition Daily Pack:

The Marked nutrition vitamin packs are dang near perfect. They are great for every day use. They give your body everything it needs to stay healthy and fit. One major con is that your body can't absorb all the nutrients at once so I recommend taking the Omega 3 and 1 multi together before breakfast and the other 3 around lunch. If you take them all at one you urine will look like the sun.

Comments about M2 MARKED™ Maximum Nutrition Daily Pack:

At first I was a little skeptical about this product because I didn't want to feel like I was being ripped off by buying a celebrity product just because he uses it or helped developed the line. I had been using GNC's multi pack vitamins for a long time and decided to give Marked a try. After using this product for over a month, I have noticed a difference in energy, motivation, but overall just feeling great all around.

I've been using the GNC brand multi pack vitamins for years, and thought I would give Marked a try. I am a fan of Mark Wahlberg and his commitment to health. When I compared the labels from the two brands side by side, the GNC brand has much higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids than does the Marked brand. I will return to the GNC brand once I deplete my supply of Marked.

Comments about M2 MARKED™ Maximum Nutrition Daily Pack:

I have tried a lot of vitamins/vitapaks for my age/gender/weight range (and others). I am in the "Normal" BMI range and mostly use the GNC Vitapaks to help me train and get a fuller range of nutrients. The GNC Women's Active was good, but I only used the full pack on endurance training days otherwise I'd get extremely dizzy. L-Carnitine hits me hard when I'm not training. I tried the GNC Women's Wellness. This was gentler, but it did not seem to fully support my training. I tried out other top brands - there was always something. I can take the Marked Vitapak every day without any side effects. On heavy training days, it seems to support me well. I am very happy to have found this Vitapak.

I take this and the Blast and Burn packs and i could tell a awesome difference in overall feeling more vital. and my Girlfriend has noticed a difference Too!:) Marked is great products and i am a huge skeptic on Celebraty products. Suggested it to my friends and it's doing wonders for them as well. Takes a few days to get in your system but after 4 days you notice a huge difference in motivation and energy i usally take it in the morning with breakfast and the blast and burn later before lifting and cardio.

Comments about M2 MARKED™ Maximum Nutrition Daily Pack:

About me: 28 male, overall good health, struggling to lose few extra pounds, working out 5 days a week.

This is basicaly the Ultra Mega Greens Men vitapak (UMG) minus a sexual support capsule and Green tea extract. I ran out of a 4 month supply of UMG and it's no longer available online. However, when I came across MARKED Máximum Nutrition (MMN) I knew this would fit the bill perfectly, as the price is lower and you get almost the same stuff that UMG offered.

The multivitamin is based on the Ultra Mega Greens formula, containing whole foods extracts, and so far it has kept me in great health.

The Omega Fatty acids blend is not as potent as I would like, but since I already take fish oil it doesn't matter that much.

The Circulatory Pump Enhancer is much like staminol, which gets the job done in the gym and at the bedroom, allowing a better blood flow.

I have yet to feel the kick of the Energy and Vitality blend, but this may be due to the fact I have high tolerance to caffeine. But still, after a month is just to early to have a veredict.

Get this if you're looking for an alternative to UMG, or need an all-in-one solution for your basic nutrition.
