Health Notes

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Conjugated Linoleic Acid
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams daily
Though the evidence is conflicting, some studies have shown CLA to be effective at helping people lose body fat. (more)
Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Conjugated linoleic acid may play a role in reducing body fat. Research has reported that CLA supplementation produces minor gains in muscle size and strength in weight-training men.(more)
Prostate Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce the risk of cancers at several sites, including breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, skin, and stomach.(more)
Breast Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce breast cancer risk.(more)
Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams dailyA double-blind trial found that exercising individuals taking 1,800 mg per day of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) lost more body fat after 12 weeks than did a similar group taking a placebo.1 However, two other studies found that amounts of CLA from 0.7 to 3.0 grams per day did not affect body composition.2, 3 Most double-blind trials have found that larger amounts of CLA, 3.2 to 4.2 grams per day, do reduce body fat;4, 5, 6, 7 however, one double-blind study of experienced strength-training athletes reported no effect of 6 grams per day of CLA on body fat, muscle mass, or strength improvement.8

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a slightly altered form of the essential fatty acid linoleic acid. Animal research suggests an effect of CLA supplementation on reducing body fat.1, 2 Controlled human research has reported that 5.6 to 7.2 grams per day of CLA produces only non-significant gains in muscle size and strength in experienced and inexperienced weight-training men.3, 4, 5 A double-blind study of a group of trained men and women reported reduced body fat in the upper arm after 12 weeks of supplementation with 1.8 grams per day of CLA.6 Further research using more accurate techniques for measuring body composition is needed to confirm these findings.

Comments about SportsResearch Sweet Sweat™ Workout Enhancer:

Before I begin my workout, I use Sweet Sweat on the areas that I usually don't sweat much from. (i.e., arms, stomach, inner thighs). After a workout the sweat is rolling down my legs uncontrollably. This is a great product. Well worth the money!!!!

Comments about SportsResearch Sweet Sweat™ Workout Enhancer:

I use the sweet sweat cream along with a trimmer belt and it really does make you sweat. I tried using just the cream and I did see more sweat than usual but I would definitely suggest using it along with a belt, you see 10x more sweat that way. The cream does leave a bit of a greasy residue but it isn't extreme enough to turn me off the product.

I use the cream on my mid section (stomach and lower back) and on my arms and after running or any type of cardio I end up completely drenched!

Comments about SportsResearch Sweet Sweat™ Workout Enhancer:

This product is awesome. I thought the product was a bunch of bull. I purchased 2 and within 2 weeks I lost at least 6 inches off my waist and about 2 from underneath my belly. I was really amazed. I topped that off with a belly belt and I now see more improvements along with my cardio workouts and my weight training. This product is not going to make you lose weight or inches you have to work out regularly to see effective results. The product really works, just nasty and slimy, but overall after 10 minutes you feel the hotness and you feel the sweating and it feels like it opens up all circulation and I can utlize the ellipitcal for 95 minutes without my body being tired. I apply the product to my thighs, knees, calves, stomach, waist, shoulders, and waist. It really works. YAY.

Comments about SportsResearch Sweet Sweat™ Workout Enhancer:

The Sales Guy in the store told me this wouldn't be "goopy", he lied, it's "goopy". I think this stuff works though, but I plan to buy the stick next time.

When you goop it on, your skin feels "warm", and I noticed I sweat more in the areas I apply it during my work outs. I also noticed it has a slight scent. I'm not a work-out queen, but I lost maybe 1/2 inch in 3 weeks with my 'Firm' DVD(mostly my waist).

I've decided to stop using this gel because it's such a pain to apply - I'm on the site today to buy the stick this time around. :)
