Description
STRENGTH OF BRANCHED CHAIN AMINO ACIDS (BCAAS)
L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine are commonly grouped together and referred to as Branched Chain Amino Acids, or BCAAs, because of their unique branched chemical structure. BCAAs are essential, meaning that they must be consumed through the diet, since the human body cannot make them from other compounds. BCAAs have long been used by strength-training and endurance athletes alike to activate protein synthesis and reduce muscle breakdown caused by intense training. Our Instantized BCAA 5000 Powder is made using a proprietary process that mixes easily and keeps the BCAAs suspended longer so they do not readily settle to the bottom of the glass. Because if you can't drink your BCAAs, they can't help your performance.

Health Notes

Branched-Chain Amino Acids

Branched-Chain Amino Acids
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Athletic Performance and Mental Decline During Exercise at Extreme Temperature
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Some research has shown that branched-chain amino acids help prevent muscle loss at high altitudes, prolong endurance performance in the heat, and improve exercise-induced declines in mental functioning. (more)
Athletic Performance and Post-Exercise Infection at Extreme Temperature
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Some research has shown that branched-chain amino acids may support immune fuction and improve infection at high altitudes and prolong endurance performance in the heat. (more)

Athletic Performance and Mental Decline During Exercise at Extreme Temperature
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Some research has shown that supplemental branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) (typically 10 to 20 grams per day) do not result in meaningful changes in body composition,1 nor do they improve exercise performance or enhance the effects of physical training.2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 However, BCAA supplementation may be useful in special situations, such as preventing muscle loss at high altitudes and prolonging endurance performance in the heat.8, 9 One controlled study gave triathletes 6 grams per day of BCAA for one month before a competition, then 3 grams per day from the day of competition until a week following. Compared with a placebo, BCAA restored depleted glutamine stores and immune factors that occur in elite athletes, and led to a reported one-third fewer symptoms of infection during the period of supplementation.10 Studies by one group of researchers suggest that BCAA supplementation may also improve exercise-induced declines in some aspects of mental functioning.11, 12, 13

Dose: Refer to label instructions

The branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAAs are considered essential amino acids because human beings cannot survive unless these amino acids are present in the diet.

Comments about Optimum Nutrition BCAA 5000 Powder - Unflavored:

Truly do not understand the reviews knocking the taste of this product. I use it daily in orange juice, milk, or protein shakes w/o even being able to detect its presence.

Like most powders (protein or BCAA), it mixes best with a shaker.

Tried to mix this in with N O Xplode and other pre and post workout drinks, but it had a sour flavor that ruined the mix. It might work in shakes, but I take it plain or with sugar free drink mixes.

Good news - good BCAA/price ratio and no calories.

I have mixed feelings about this product, but overall would recommend this to someone. This product tastes horrific! I was amazed at how chalky and overall, bad it tasted. BUT, the taste does not linger. As for the workouts with this product, they have been the best workouts I have had in my life (I did pair this product with Jack3d). I was almost never sore, I had my longest and hardest workouts and have lost a lot of weight. If you can get past the bad taste, this product is amazing!
