Some athletes say that whey protein serves as another protein choice in their diets.

What Do the Advocates Say?*

Protein is necessary for rebuilding tissue-this is especially important for bodybuilders. All types of protein provide the body with amino acids. From an athletic point of view, whey is just another type of protein. Choosing whey protein over other types of protein simply adds variety to the protein choices available.

Whey is a common ingredient in many meal replacements, which are designed to provide a large amount of nutrients in a minimal amount of calories.

How Much Is Usually Taken by Athletes?

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength-training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength-training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

Yes, this product does boost energy before a workout. However, the taste is just awful. The scoop is way too large than what should be unnecessary. On top of that, about half the powder, no matter how hard you try, settles on the bottom of your bottle.

I tried the orange hoping the taste would be better than the grape but boy I was wrong! While the product tastes terrible it really does boost focus, energy and adds power to your workout. I lift and run and it really helps! My favorite pre-workout for strength taining only is Pump Fuel.

    This is the worst pre-workout I've taken. It gives me a body rush, but not in a good way. Don't confuse body rush with the energy needed to last throughout a workout. The energy it gives doesn't feel sustainable and it makes me feel jittery, sick, and makes my skin tingle unconfortably.

    Beast Mode is exactly where this pre-workout supplement takes you! I love how it works so fast and well. I get way more reps in and with cardio it is amazing! I would reccomend this to anyone who is serious about getting in shape!

    Purchased RAVAGE about a month ago, and I must say that i was impressed with this product from day one!. I noticed an increase in energy and focus especially during cardio. I was doing 25-30 of cardio daily and now i can do 45min-1hr and still have enough energy to do another 45 minutes of weightlifting. I was skeptical at first with the reviews but I had to try it out for myself and im glad i did!!

    This products gives you the extra pump before a workout. I even use it as a pick me up during the day. The taste makes it a wham bam thankyou mamm. You slam it no questions the pepper gets you. the orange I have gotten used to but the grape is terrible. But give this one a chance.

    This product is fairly good but i have to say it is not near as good as my senzu beans. Master Roshi gave a senzu bean and i could see my muscles growing as i went into kio ken x10 but this product is pretty good if you dont work out much...

          A GNC salesman recommended this for pre-workout. The large serving size not only tasted horrible, but it tore apart my stomach. I definitely do not recommend and will be going back to CELLUCOR C4 as my pre-workout supplement.

          I took this product before working out today and at 5 am it is not the taste you want to have in your mouth. It's like covering an orange lifesaver in cinnamon. So if you can manage to get it down it does nothing but give you an energy boost. Definitely not what i thought it would be. I had no explosiveness in my lifts.
