Nutritional Insurance for Mom & Baby
- 500 mg of DHA to support healthy brain and eye function development*
- 1,000 mcg of folic acid to support healthy fetal development*
- 600 mg of bone-strengthening calcium*
- 400 IU of vitamin D-3 to enhance calcium absorption*
- Iron to support increased blood volume*
- Supplies a balanced nutritional blend combining vitamins, mineral and antioxidants to supplement a healthy diet. Emerging research suggests that antioxidants can help protect the body from harmful free radicals that can destroy healthy cells.*
- Features 500 mg of DHA, an important omega-3 fatty acid. DHA plays a vital role in supporting the healthy development of a fetus brain, eyes, and nervous system.
- Provides 1,000 mcg of folic acid, critical during the earliest weeks of pregnancy when a baby’s organs are forming. Adequate intake of folic acid in a healthy diet before and during early pregnancy may reduce the risk of birth defects of the brain and spinal cord. Folic acid is also required for cell growth and DNA formation.*
- Features 600 mg of bone-strengthening calcium which is vital during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester when fetal bones begin to calcify. If a mother’s calcium level drops, her body can pull calcium from her bones resulting in loss of bone density. Also includes 400 IU of vitamin D-3 to enhance calcium absorption.*
- Includes iron to support placental and fetal needs and a mother’s increased blood volume.*

Prenatal Vitamins Support Full-Term Pregnancy
Prenatal Vitamins Support Full-Term Pregnancy
Multivitamin use around the time of conception could be a safe and simple strategy to improve pregnancy outcomesPrenatal multivitamins help pregnant moms to fill gaps in their diet and meet their own-and their baby's-special nutritional needs. Now researchers have found a link between taking multivitamins around the time of conception and prevention of early births and births of babies born smaller than normal for their gestational age.
Nearly 36,000 women participating in the Danish National Birth Cohort, a large ongoing study of pregnant women and their children, were included in the study. All of them reported using multivitamins, just folic acid supplements, or no supplements in the 12 weeks around conception: 4 weeks before the last menstrual period until 8 weeks after.
Multivitamins improve the odds
The women were followed until after delivery and were monitored for preterm births (delivery before week 37 of pregnancy) and births of babies that were small for gestational age (weight, length, or head circumference below the tenth percentile for the number of weeks of pregnancy). These are important measures of newborn health because infants born preterm or small for gestational age are at greater risk for a wide variety of health and developmental problems.
When the researchers looked at birth outcomes and vitamin use, they found the following:
- Taking multivitamins around the time of conception was associated with a 17% lower risk of small-for-gestational-age births in all women. This effect was strongest in women who took multivitamins in the weeks after conception.
- In women who were not overweight prior to pregnancy, taking multivitamins around conception was associated with a 16% lower risk of preterm birth.
- Multivitamin use did not affect risk of preterm delivery in women who were overweight prior to pregnancy. (These women are already less likely to deliver preterm.)
- Taking folic acid alone had no effect on risk of preterm or small-for-gestational-age births.
Having a healthy pregnancy and birth
"It may be that multivitamin use around the time of conception could be a safe and simple strategy to improve pregnancy outcomes," the study's authors said in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, while pointing out that more research is needed to show this definitively.
In addition to a multivitamin, there are a few other key supplements that you can consider taking during pregnancy:
- Omega-3 fatty acids. We get these from eating fish, but due to pollutants like mercury and PCBs, pregnant women should eat fish judiciously (perhaps no more than 2 helpings a week). Supplementing with omega-3 fats during pregnancy has been shown to help ensure full-term births and healthy-sized newborns.
- Vitamin D. Most of us don't get enough sun all year to maintain healthy levels of vitamin D, and some research suggests that pregnant women with low vitamin D levels are more likely to deliver preterm.
- Iron, folic acid, and zinc. Low levels of these nutrients during pregnancy are associated with poor birth outcomes. If you don't take a prenatal multivitamin, remember to stay on top of these nutrients.

Comments about GNC Women's Prenatal Formula with DHA:
When my insurance stopped covering my prenatal vitamins I asked my doctor what the best brand was. She recommended GNC. I liked these because of the high DHA, folic acid, Vit D, etc. They have a great assortment of vitamins and minerals. They are also free of additives, preservatives and colors. I have shopped around for various prenatal vitamins, including at the health food store, but none have as many nutrients as these. They are big and you have to take 3 at a time, but they are slick and go down easy for me. I plan on using them after I have the baby. I highly recommend them.

Comments about GNC Women's Prenatal Formula with DHA:
These vitamins are wonderful! I am not pregnant nor do I plan on becoming pregnant any time soon, I was just looking for vitamins that wouldn't upset my stomach, and would help me with my acne. Within 2 weeks of taking these vitamins every day, my skin has cleared up! My hair is also a lot softer and shinier, and I have way more energy than I did before. I love these vitamins!

Comments about GNC Women's Prenatal Formula with DHA:
I made the switch to these vitamins because they contain DHA and have 1000 mg of folic acid. I am pregnant and these things are important to me. The vitamins themselves are great. They have no funny smell, no aftertaste, and no burping afterwards. My only complaint is the size. I have to mentally prepare myself to swallow them everyday. They are worth it though for the health of my baby.

Comments about GNC Women's Prenatal Formula with DHA:
This is the first prenatal I used when I first got pregnant, and although I had to take 3 a day it didn't have any negative side effects, they were not fishy nor smelly they actually had a sweet taste on them, I switched to naturemade prenantal with DHA and found out some negative things about the product so I have decided to go back to these, the only reason I switched was to only take one a day, but I don't want to risk the health of my baby, GNC makes good prenantal and these are the only ones I will take in future pregnancies as well, they are worth the three a day, you can even make it easier and take 2 in the morning or night and take one the next time or all three at the sam time, not once did they make me nauseous. VERY GOOD PRODUCT

Comments about GNC Women's Prenatal Formula with DHA:
I researched sooooo many prenatal vitamins and read tons of reviews before deciding on this one. I was trying to find a vitamin that contained DHA but did not have artificial flavors, colors, etc. and this was the best I've located. When you actually start reading the labels, you would be surprised how many prenatal vitamins contain potentially harmful ingredients such as "red dye 40" and other things you wouldn't give your newborn. I was also surprised how many vitamins have strong fishy odors which make it even harder on pregnant women. These pills are odorless and have not made me sick at all. The pills are long which might scare you at first but they are thinner than most of the huge horse pills on the markets and because they are gel caps they go down easier for me. The thing that some women may not like is that they have to take 3 pills a day; that's the reason I almost didn't get them. If you want a pill that has DHA you'll probably have to take at least 2 pills anyhow so why not add an extra one if it doesn't smell or make you sick? Best Wishes!!!
