Product Information

Description

The people of the ancient Aztec and Mayan empires revered chia seeds as vital nourishment. These mighty non-gluten seeds, packed with Omega-3, protein, rare antioxidants, and fiber, are making a strong comeback in the 21st century. Nutiva offers both black and white chia seeds—the main difference being visual, with the white seeds preferred for some baking recipes. Enjoy them in yogurt, oatmeal, baked goods, or smoothies. No need to grind chia. Soak 2 Tbsp of chia seed for 5-10 minutes in 6 oz of water to produce a nutritious chia gel that can be added to hundreds of recipes. Also enjoy Nutiva’s Milled Chia Seed, Hempseed, Hemp Oil, Hemp Protein, Coconut Oil, and Coconut Manna™

Health Notes

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit Seed Extract
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Dose: Refer to label instructions

A preliminary trial investigated the effectiveness of grapefruit seed extract in people with eczema and symptoms of IBS.1 Participants received either 2 drops of a 0.5% oral solution of grapefruit seed extract twice daily or 150 mg of encapsulated grapefruit seed extract three times daily. After a month, IBS symptoms had improved in 20% of those taking the liquid, while all of the patients taking capsules noted definite improvement of constipation, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and night rest. These results need confirmation in double-blind trials.
