Health Notes

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Conjugated Linoleic Acid
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams daily
Though the evidence is conflicting, some studies have shown CLA to be effective at helping people lose body fat. (more)
Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Conjugated linoleic acid may play a role in reducing body fat. Research has reported that CLA supplementation produces minor gains in muscle size and strength in weight-training men.(more)
Prostate Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce the risk of cancers at several sites, including breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, skin, and stomach.(more)
Breast Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce breast cancer risk.(more)
Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams dailyA double-blind trial found that exercising individuals taking 1,800 mg per day of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) lost more body fat after 12 weeks than did a similar group taking a placebo.1 However, two other studies found that amounts of CLA from 0.7 to 3.0 grams per day did not affect body composition.2, 3 Most double-blind trials have found that larger amounts of CLA, 3.2 to 4.2 grams per day, do reduce body fat;4, 5, 6, 7 however, one double-blind study of experienced strength-training athletes reported no effect of 6 grams per day of CLA on body fat, muscle mass, or strength improvement.8

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a slightly altered form of the essential fatty acid linoleic acid. Animal research suggests an effect of CLA supplementation on reducing body fat.1, 2 Controlled human research has reported that 5.6 to 7.2 grams per day of CLA produces only non-significant gains in muscle size and strength in experienced and inexperienced weight-training men.3, 4, 5 A double-blind study of a group of trained men and women reported reduced body fat in the upper arm after 12 weeks of supplementation with 1.8 grams per day of CLA.6 Further research using more accurate techniques for measuring body composition is needed to confirm these findings.

Took this last year and lost a good 20 pounds within a couple of months, extreme energy now nothing else seems to compare to the energy boost I used to get from this. Since last year had a baby so now I'm looking to lose some baby weight but I think my body has developed a tolerance for this

Comments about HI TECH PHARM 1010029 Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Fastin®:

When I bought the bottle the pills already were a little brownish, and on the label it says that means they were exposed to some moisture before they even left the store, so that should've been a warning. And I think because of that they taste awful and get stuck going down sometimes when you take them. But other then that, I would take one before I work out and it gave me a good boost of energy throughout my routine. I would only take them on work out days and not rest days though. I've been doing this non-consecutive for over two months at least. A few weeks ago I felt my body got used to one pill so I decided to take 2 for the first time before a work out and it was a very big difference. The rest of the day though I felt weird and hardly had an appetite, which I know it's supposed to curb it, but it was a little ridiculous. I only did two before one more time a few days after that then just stuck to taking one like normal, but I think my body doesn't like the levels of the dose, and I'm not caffeine sensitive. And the bottle recommends you take 1-2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, and I feel like that would be too much for me.

It worked well for the time I used it, but I think I'm going to switch it up now.

I would not recommed this for anyone that is sensitive to "energy" products. I was using this product consistant for about three months solid. Fantastic energy (for me no issues) and dropped almost 40 pounds.
I have slacked, so now it's time to get back into it.
I have tried several products, and this is the only one that has had any results for me.

I only take 1/2 tab to get a quick energy boost. Lasts a few hours. I tried a whole tab and I thought my heart rate was way toooo fast. So I stick with the 1/2 tab.
          Easy on the stomach.
