Health Notes

Pain

Pain
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Cayenne
Apply 0.025 to 0.075% capsaicin ointment four times per day over painful areas3 stars[3 stars] Capsaicin, an extract of cayenne pepper, appears to work by blocking pain signals and may ease many types of chronic pain when applied regularly to the skin.
Cayenne Topical

(Postherpetic Neuralgia)
Apply 0.025 to 0.075% capsaicin ointment four times per day over painful areas3 stars[3 stars] A component of cayenne pepper known as capsaicin can be applied as a cream or ointment to soothe the pain of postherpetic neuralgia.
L-Tryptophan
2 to 4 grams per day 3 stars[3 stars] Double-blind research has also shown that oral L-tryptophan can increase tolerance to acute pain.
Corydalis
Take an amount supplying 75 mg per day of tetrahydropalmatine (THP)2 stars[2 stars] Preliminary reports indicate that THP (an alkaloid from the plant corydalis) may be effective in reducing nerve pain.
Phenylalanine
1,500 mg daily2 stars[2 stars] D-phenylalanine (DPA) decreases pain by blocking the enzymes that break down the body's natural painkillers. Clinical studies suggest DPA may inhibit some types of chronic pain.

Viburnum opulus

About This Condition

Pain is a sensation that is transmitted from an area of tissue damage or stress along the sensory nerves to the brain. The brain interprets the information as the sensation of pain.

Substances that decrease pain either interfere with the ability of nerves to conduct messages, or alter the brain's capacity to receive sensations.

Pain may be a symptom of an underlying pathological condition, such as inflammation. It may also be due to other causes, such as bruising, infection, burns, headaches, and sprains and strains. Use caution when treating pain without understanding its cause-this may delay diagnosis of conditions that could continue to worsen without medical attention.

Comments about Fuse Science™ ENERJEL™ Topical Gel:

I use this product every day, depending on my workout, on different muscles. I absolutely LOVE this product. Just a few seconds after applying, you can feel the rush of energy. During workouts, there is no pain and no soreness on the muscle where I applied Fuse. I can't imagine working out now without this. My only gripe (and it's miniscule) is that it leaves a small residue where it was applied. Anyone who tries this product will not be disappointed.

I was a bit leary, but Enerjel was being recommended to me by a friend. I used the product before throwing batting practice to my high school team and was amazed by how little soreness I had in my shoulder the next day. I've actually come to depend on this product for helping me with soreness and tightness in my lower back. I use the product 3-4 times per week and truly can't believe just how well it works.

This stuff works great, especially if you massage some in post-workout. I had much less post-workout soreness after using enerjel. However, the 2 oz bottles don't last long. If it came in bigger bottles or was just a tad cheaper, this would be a 5 star rating for sure.

Comments about Fuse Science™ ENERJEL™ Topical Gel:

I am really impressed with EnerJel. I heard about it after EnerJel began sponsoring Tiger Woods. I was skeptical at first, but, it is a really amazing product. It is easy to use, just roll it on. And it is fast acting and long lasting. I put it on before a workout to keep the muscles I am working from becoming fatigued and then again afterwards in the areas that I feel sore. It is even good for aches and pains from yard work or sleeping awkwardly.

I have had chronic neck, shoulder, and lower back pain for over 17 years. This is the first product that I have used that gives me immediate pain relief. I love that I can carry ENERJEL in my purse and use it ANYTIME I need it, without worrying about an embarassing harsh odor or the inconvienience of getting it all over my hands. This roll on pain relief is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!! I am so thankful to have found this incredible product.

Comments about Fuse Science™ ENERJEL™ Topical Gel:

I'm a fierce competitor, at my age(36) and with 3 kids I have definitely lagged in my abilities to keep my body and muscles in shape.

So when I jump in and play, it hurts. I also get strong headaches due to muscle tension.

Enerjel helps me play harder without the pain and keeps my muscles energized so I can play at my peak performance throughout the game.

I also use Enerjel to relieve tension related headaches. I was amazed at the effectiveness of this product, not to mention it's truly all natural!
