Health Notes

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Conjugated Linoleic Acid
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams daily
Though the evidence is conflicting, some studies have shown CLA to be effective at helping people lose body fat. (more)
Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Conjugated linoleic acid may play a role in reducing body fat. Research has reported that CLA supplementation produces minor gains in muscle size and strength in weight-training men.(more)
Prostate Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce the risk of cancers at several sites, including breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, skin, and stomach.(more)
Breast Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce breast cancer risk.(more)
Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams dailyA double-blind trial found that exercising individuals taking 1,800 mg per day of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) lost more body fat after 12 weeks than did a similar group taking a placebo.1 However, two other studies found that amounts of CLA from 0.7 to 3.0 grams per day did not affect body composition.2, 3 Most double-blind trials have found that larger amounts of CLA, 3.2 to 4.2 grams per day, do reduce body fat;4, 5, 6, 7 however, one double-blind study of experienced strength-training athletes reported no effect of 6 grams per day of CLA on body fat, muscle mass, or strength improvement.8

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a slightly altered form of the essential fatty acid linoleic acid. Animal research suggests an effect of CLA supplementation on reducing body fat.1, 2 Controlled human research has reported that 5.6 to 7.2 grams per day of CLA produces only non-significant gains in muscle size and strength in experienced and inexperienced weight-training men.3, 4, 5 A double-blind study of a group of trained men and women reported reduced body fat in the upper arm after 12 weeks of supplementation with 1.8 grams per day of CLA.6 Further research using more accurate techniques for measuring body composition is needed to confirm these findings.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Ripped™ - Watermelon:

So I don't think this was ever meant to be a pre-workout, the directions only say "once daily" not "before workouts" or anything. but i've been using it the last 2 and a half weeks and i can definitely tell that it's cut back my appetite, i drink tons of water and that helps but i take this about an hour before lunch and i'll go from "starving" to "meh i can eat". not sure if it's actually burning any fat though besides with the green coffee bean extract. when you get to the last bit of the drink where the powder mostly sits it will have a chili pepper taste on the tongue, not horrible though i just don't like spicy fruit. all in all i'd say it's pretty effective and i'll more then likely buy another bottle.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Ripped™ - Watermelon:

Product mixes poorly and settles fast but it does say to drink it immediately. Not made to sip on and I found that as a post workout drink it helps with soreness and recovery has been great. I can hit the gym 6 days in a row now and not feel like I am exhausted. I used to get only 3-4 days in a row max. I am nearly 40 and in great shape..not sure how much the shred effect works but it does supress appetite well. Only real cons besides the mixing is the mild head ache I get but caffine does that to me anyways, and I sometimes get a tingling on my tonque for a few minutes when unmixed powder touches it. Overall seeems to be a good product.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Ripped™ - Watermelon:

this product is very effective. energy levels a couple minutes after i drank the mix raised slightly. the pumps were okay. no jitters or anxiety. i found myself tired after only half an hour. my face flushed red before i hit the gym. focus is mellow and tunnel vision was minimal. added fat burners are a good bonus. i had an appetite afterward which i normally did not have after taking other pre-workout mixes. if taken individually, each ingredient is natural or is a naturally occurring substance in food or the body excluding the added trans-fats, silicon, and artificial sweeteners. if you like a pre workout that is not harsh on the insides and a mix that wont keep you up all night, give this a try.

Normally wouldn't give a product the full 5 stars, but I think this one deserves it. The taste is unreal, I normally take ProSculpt(fruit punch) which is fairly easy to get down and is a decent product. When I finished fruit punch ProSculpt I went to try the Blue Raspberry and I just could not get it down. The worker exchanged it for this and Im so happy. Only been on it for a week but I will undoubtably but this again - you get the energy WITHOUT the jitters

Spoke to the sales associate about what I was looking for in a pre-workout (lose fat weight and add muscle definition) and this was the suggestion. Not only do I not feel the same effects as other preworkout supps I've tried but it also doesn't mix that well and the last drink always has some chunks that leave a spicy flavor in my mouth. Not what I want to be focusing on when I workout.
