Health Notes

Whey Protein

Whey Protein
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Athletic Performance
Dose: 20 grams daily up to 1.2 grams of per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

Osteoporosis
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Some whey proteins may reduce bone loss.1 Milk basic protein (MBP) is a mixture of some of the proteins found in whey protein. A preliminary trial found that 300 mg per day of MBP improved blood measures of bone metabolism in men, suggesting more bone formation was occurring than bone loss.2 A double-blind trial found that women taking 40 mg per day of MBP for six months had greater gains in bone density compared with those taking a placebo.3 No osteoporosis-related research has been done using complete whey protein mixtures.

Obesity
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Whey protein may aid weight loss due to its effect on appetite. In a preliminary study, people were given 48 grams of either whey protein or milk protein (casein). Whey consumption resulted in more hunger satisfaction and reduced the amount of food eaten 90 minutes later compared with casein consumption.1 However, a double-blind study found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs body weight per day of whey protein for 12 weeks along with a low-calorie diet and a strength training exercise program lost the same amount of weight and body fat as did a control group that followed a similar program, but took a casein supplement instead of whey protein.2

Whey protein is a mixture of some of the proteins naturally found in milk. The major proteins found in whey protein include beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin. Whey protein has one of the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores (PDCAAS; a measure of protein bioavailability) and is more rapidly digested than other proteins, such as casein (another milk protein). 1

Comments about Cellucor® COR-Performance™ Series WHEY - Cinnamon Swirl:

I wasn't to crazy about the idea of a cinnamon protein but after purchasing this on a whim i was proven wrong. The taste is dead on with the cinnamon toast crunch cereal and has me hooked. cellucor has now replaced dymatize as my go-to post workout protein. all of there flavors are worth a try and this one is no different. my strength and size gains have been noticable since switching to cellucors whey line.

Comments about Cellucor® COR-Performance™ Series WHEY - Cinnamon Swirl:

First thing I noticed was the cinnamin aroma that comes out when first open the jug. Next is the mixing part. It mixed very well in water, nearly perfect with little sticking to the walls of the cup. Next came the taste. The taste is most similar to a less sweeter version of cinnamin toast crunch. Don't get me wrong though, you can make it sweeter if you prefer it to be.
At 25g per protein per scoop and low to mid 100's calories per scoop makes this one a winner.

Comments about Cellucor® COR-Performance™ Series WHEY - Cinnamon Swirl:

Had the opportunity to try a tub of both cinnamon swirl and Peanut Butter Marshmallow. Let's jump into the review with my favorite part of this new protein, the taste. I've had the unfortunate luck of trying some terrible tasting and clumpy shakes; this was not one of them. My new favorite tasting protein is the Cinnamon swirl, I went so far as to order three more tubs. As for the mix-ability I used a shaker bottle which left no clumps and made the consitency of a watery milkshake. Because it tasted so good I started to make my shakes at night and refridgerate them til morning. The cost per serving is around a dollar so comparable to any other major proteins on the current market. Very pleased with the new addition to the COR series and will be sticking with this product as my go-to whey. If you're looking for the edge or just made a new year's resolution and need a solid protein then try some for yourslef; I highly recommend it.

Comments about Cellucor® COR-Performance™ Series WHEY - Cinnamon Swirl:

I am a huge fan of protein powders and I have tried almost every kind in the industry. A good profile is key when it comes to any type of supplement in my opinion, but taste is what makes someone want more and more. Cellucor has definitely gotten the taste down to a T. The new Cellucor Cor-Performance Whey tastes amazing. This stuff is by far the best tasting protein on the market.

              PROFILE: PER SCOOP
              Calories: 120/130 depending on flavor
              Fat: 1.5g
              Carbohydrates: 3G
              Protein: 25g
              Naturally occurring BCAAs: 5.5g

TASTE: 10/10: This stuff is amazing! I typically make my protein shakes within unsweetened almond milk and with this it's like a milkshake. It's awesome. I also mixed some with water to test out the taste and you can barely tell that you mixed it with water because it tastes so good. When I am craving something sweet, I now go to this protein shake to crave my sweet tooth. There are also 6 different flavors.

EFFECTIVENESS: 9/10: I consume 2 scoops (66g) of the Cellucor Cor-Performance protein directly following my workouts and it helps with my recovery tremendously. It allows my muscles to repair quicker. I also look at it as a treat after my workouts because it tastes so good. It has a great profile. With the 25 grams of protein per scoop and the 5.5 grams of BCAAs my recovery is awesome.

PRICE: 9/10: Cellucor has made this protein with the consumers in eye. Everyone looks at Cellucor products and turn away because they think that they are priced too high. You get what you pay for, and Cellucor makes high quality products. This new protein is very affordable for anyone to go pick up.

OVERALL 9.5/10: Overall this protein is amazing. A great profile, amazing taste at a very reasonable price. I encourage everyone to at least give this stuff a try because once you try it, you will want more. There are 6 different flavors. I would defiantly recommend this product.

3 Words --- Cinnamon Toast Crunch. There is no other way to put it. THink about when you were a kid and devouring bowls of cinnamon toast crunch in milk that is exactly how it reminds me of this flavor. Now i did use a loaf for the recipe above, but i also have a review on oatmeal coming up which really made this flavor shine. Since i am not a shake guy I found this worked very well to guage the overall taste of the product and how distinct it is. overall this flavor is top notch and my ranking of Cinnamon Roll Below
