Health Notes

Whey Protein

Whey Protein
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Athletic Performance
Dose: 20 grams daily up to 1.2 grams of per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

Osteoporosis
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Some whey proteins may reduce bone loss.1 Milk basic protein (MBP) is a mixture of some of the proteins found in whey protein. A preliminary trial found that 300 mg per day of MBP improved blood measures of bone metabolism in men, suggesting more bone formation was occurring than bone loss.2 A double-blind trial found that women taking 40 mg per day of MBP for six months had greater gains in bone density compared with those taking a placebo.3 No osteoporosis-related research has been done using complete whey protein mixtures.

Obesity
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Whey protein may aid weight loss due to its effect on appetite. In a preliminary study, people were given 48 grams of either whey protein or milk protein (casein). Whey consumption resulted in more hunger satisfaction and reduced the amount of food eaten 90 minutes later compared with casein consumption.1 However, a double-blind study found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs body weight per day of whey protein for 12 weeks along with a low-calorie diet and a strength training exercise program lost the same amount of weight and body fat as did a control group that followed a similar program, but took a casein supplement instead of whey protein.2

Whey protein is a mixture of some of the proteins naturally found in milk. The major proteins found in whey protein include beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin. Whey protein has one of the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores (PDCAAS; a measure of protein bioavailability) and is more rapidly digested than other proteins, such as casein (another milk protein). 1

Comments about Cellucor® COR-Performance™ Series WHEY - Cinnamon Swirl:

I have heard such AMAZING things about this product so clearly when I ordered it, I had high expectations. Sadly, when I first received the product I was less than amazed. I was glad I was able to buy the protein powder for such a low cost, but it was not my first choice in flavor: I wanted to purchase the cor-fetti but since it is not available I thought I might as well give this flavor a try. While some people love it, I feel it is lacking something.

Comments about Cellucor® COR-Performance™ Series WHEY - Cinnamon Swirl:

Taste: Cinnamon swirl, the smell was amazing, upon opening the tub I was engulfed in the smell of cinnamon and heaven all in one. First time I did was mix it with 10 oz of milk.
1 scoop in 10 oz of milk was a let down, the strong cinnamon smell was almost gone in milk. I know people compared it to cinnamon toast crunch, and it's close I'd rather say it tastes like the left over milk of a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch. Very milky, very bland, I wish the strong aroma carried over into milk.
2 scoops in 14-15oz of milk. This is where the protein shines in this ratio the cinnamon swirl is more profound, actually tastes good, too bad I went through the whole tub before I found the right ratio of protein to milk.
Protein in water: avoid it, a flavor like this is best used with milk

Mix ability: awesome, no issues ever, in milk or water

in oatmeal: the strong cinnamon taste is lost in oats, would rather eat the oats with out this protein added to it.

Overall, i'm a bit let down from the flavor, cellucor's flavoring is off the charts in the super sport protein, and in the pre workouts. I don't know if they rushed to market and didn't take extra time in nailing the flavoring, something I know cellucor is capable of.

First and foremost I would like to thank Cellucor for the opportunity to share. The Cellucor Cinnamon Swirl is the best Protein powder I've ever had! Mornings I make it in almond milk and with water in afternoons and preworkouts. Both tasted amazing.it tastes so good you feel like your cheating on your diet. This Whey protein is not your average protein where it clumps up or some is left over at the bottom. This product mixes well with water or milk.
This is a great tasting protein and one of the best and would recommend this to everyone!

Ingredient Profile (9/10): With 25g of protein & only 130 calories per serving, I liked the profile right off the bat. The digestive enzymes also help a lot too for me since some brands of protein don't sit well for me. So far I've had no stomach issues and this product has really been sitting well with me. Overall it has a pretty solid profile!

Mixability (10/10): I had ZERO problems with mixing this protein! No clumps, no grittiness, no leftover powder after drinking. I mixed 1 scoop with about 12oz. of lowfat milk in a shaker bottle. Shook it up for about 10 seconds, and it was mixed perfectly with a nice and smooth texture.

Cinnamon Swirl Taste (9.5/10): Tastes just like CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH!!!! As soon as you open up the tub, the sweet smell of cinnamon fills up your nose. This is absolutely delicious! I've only had one other cinnamon flavored protein - Gaspari Myofusion Probiotic. The Myofusion was really great as well, but I definitely prefer this flavor over that one now that I've tried both. Another great job by Cellucor!

Overall (9.5/10): Cellucor just seems to keep pumping out great products. Flavor-wise, I don't know another company that compares with every supplement they come out with. Whether it's C4, M5, COR-BCAA, COR-Whey, or anything else they make, every flavor I've ever had of a Cellucor supplement has been great! I will definitely be trying out some recipes with this protein in the future. I will also be purchasing some new flavors soon! Most likely going to get Cookies & Cream, Strawberry Milkshake, and Molten Chocolate next! I would definitely recommend this protein to anyone looking for something new & delicious with a great ingredient profile. Thanks again to Cellucor for letting me review this for them!

I was sent this product for review and I have to thank you Cellucor. Nice profile on the new Core series protein there is no question about that. Its nice to see some different flavors out there.

I would never think of drinking a cinamon flavored shake but it wasnt bad.Not my favorite to drink but I have to say this would be nice to bake with.Aside from me not being a fan of a cinnamon shake they did a nice job with teh taste. It does taste like cinnamon.

Theres a review on youtube for looks!

                      Ok so protein!

Taste- This cinnamin flavor taste great! It is not overly sweet like you may think. Alot of people have referred to cinnamin toast crunch. It is like that, but the milk thats left over after the cereal is finished, which is still tasty.!

Mixability- have had no problems mixing in shaker cup with milk or water with up to 2 scoops, anything after yes

Price- is fair and cheaper than super sport and with such BOGO deals from GNC its easier to try each new flavor without hurting your pockets

25 grams of protein in 1 scoop/scoop size is medium
