    Health Notes

    Whey Protein

    Whey Protein
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
    • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
    • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
    • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

    Athletic Performance
Dose: 20 grams daily up to 1.2 grams of per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

    Dose: Refer to label instructions

Some whey proteins may reduce bone loss.1 Milk basic protein (MBP) is a mixture of some of the proteins found in whey protein. A preliminary trial found that 300 mg per day of MBP improved blood measures of bone metabolism in men, suggesting more bone formation was occurring than bone loss.2 A double-blind trial found that women taking 40 mg per day of MBP for six months had greater gains in bone density compared with those taking a placebo.3 No osteoporosis-related research has been done using complete whey protein mixtures.

    Obesity
    Dose: Refer to label instructions

Whey protein may aid weight loss due to its effect on appetite. In a preliminary study, people were given 48 grams of either whey protein or milk protein (casein). Whey consumption resulted in more hunger satisfaction and reduced the amount of food eaten 90 minutes later compared with casein consumption.1 However, a double-blind study found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs body weight per day of whey protein for 12 weeks along with a low-calorie diet and a strength training exercise program lost the same amount of weight and body fat as did a control group that followed a similar program, but took a casein supplement instead of whey protein.2

Whey protein is a mixture of some of the proteins naturally found in milk. The major proteins found in whey protein include beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin. Whey protein has one of the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores (PDCAAS; a measure of protein bioavailability) and is more rapidly digested than other proteins, such as casein (another milk protein). 1

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60™ Power - French Vanilla:

Reading some other reviews, it seems the biggest complaint is the taste. The taste really is not bad. I have the chocolate fudge and it tastes fine and doesn't upset my stomach like some other whey protein's that contain creatine and BCAA's. It is HIGHLY effective and my gains have been shocking!!! Last time I had gains this quick was when I took Jack3d, which is banned now! I take 2 scoops after a workout and 1 scoop on my off day(s) and that seems to work for me. I was skeptical of this product at first so I bought the 1lb bag to try and got addicted. Definitely recommend trying it!!

On gym days, I take this. Probably a scoop in the morning, then after the gym 3 scoops. I find mixing it with Silk Chocolate Milk or Vanilla and a little water vs just water helps the the taste alot. So far I can see resonable results in muslce size, recovery time and stregnth. I do take this with the Physique Vitapak and I find it a great combo. Note, I do sepereate the two products when taking them. Probably shake first with food (in the morning), and then roughly a hour later the vitapak (little by little). But yea, great stuff. Would be awesome to find a way to make it taste a lot better.

Good source for Pre-work out, don't taste good by itself, it's like you drinking a bunch of chemical foam, upset stomach if you don't have a solid one. But it gives you incredible strength.

I use this as a post work out shake. The gains I think I'm getting are worth it but the taste is horrible and the amount of foam after mixing it makes me thing of a poorly poured beer. I just take a deep breath in and down it. Just think of washing your mouth out with some dish soap and that's the flavor. The regular vanilla that the Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 is 200x better. Why not use those flavors?

this is the best muscle gainer i've ever tried (period). who cares about the taste which btw not that bad at all. Look at what it has in it. Look at the label. You get 18 (not just basic 3) amino acids you ever need for workout. 18!! gramms BCAA per usual dose + isolate and hydro whey blend +3g creatine no wonder it works as good as steroids. you wanna good taste - make a nice grilled steak. If you get good results in 1-2 months, the taste's factor fades away to nothing.

I don't know how this product will effect me personally, but I don't care. This is the worst tasting protein shake I have ever had. It reminds me of the taste of soap. (Obviously I cursed as a kid. Haha) I don't care if this gives me the greatest gains, I will never buy this product again.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60™ Power - French Vanilla:

I have used almost every protein I believe that either GNC sells or Bodybuilding.com and this one has given me results I have never seen on myself personsally. Gained over an inch in my chest, calves, arms, and hammies in less than a month's time. These results are courtesy of a Bowflex machine, dumbells (25lb) and a treadmill, that is all. 2 scoops daily and 1 on the days I don't do anything other than slack off. Bottom line is that I am now on my second jar with another sitting in reserves.

Mixed with Orange juice and some ice, it literally tastes like Orange Julius for those who know that place. No bad aftertaste at all. Have gotten my nephew and his college lifting buddies on it as well now.
