A Healthy Person's Guide to Vitamins
A Healthy Person's Guide to Vitamins
Even in healthy people, multivitamins and other supplements may help prevent vitamin and mineral deficienciesIdeally, daily nutritional needs should be met through healthy eating-but the typical diet does not always supply all the vitamins and minerals a body needs. So even in healthy people, multivitamins and other supplements may help prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies and they can also provide more nutrients than diet alone, which may help to protect against or manage certain diseases. The following list gives the daily optimum amounts of nutrients that might benefit healthy people.Folic acid (400 mcg)
- The FDA-required fortification of grain products may have reduced deficiency in the general US population, but some authorities believe it is not enough to optimally prevent diseases such as heart disease and neural tube defects.
- The body's need for folic acid doubles during pregnancy. Supplementation prior to, and shortly after, conception is adequate and effective.
Iodine (150 mcg)
- A common deficiency in developing countries, iodine is more abundant in Western diets. Most people get enough unless they avoid iodized salt, seafood, and sea vegetables.
- People with thyroid diseases should check with their doctor before using iodine supplements.
Vitamin A (5,000 IU; as natural beta-carotene for nonsmokers)
- The synthetic beta-carotene in most multivitamins clearly does not prevent cancer and may increase the risk of lung cancer in smokers. In contrast, however, natural beta-carotene and several other carotenoids may help prevent certain diseases, including some cancers, although its safety for smokers has not been demonstrated.
- Due to concerns about birth defects and bone loss, people should not take over 10,000 IU of supplemental vitamin A in the form of retinol without consulting a doctor.
B Vitamins
- The typical Western diet may provide thiamine (B1; 1.5 mg), riboflavin (B2; 1.7 mg), and niacin (B3; 20 mg) in adequate amounts as they are added to white flour products and other foods that have been depleted of those vitamins.
- Biotin (300 mcg): This vitamin is produced by intestinal bacteria in amounts that, along with the typical diet, provide enough to prevent deficiency in healthy people.
- Pyridoxine(B6; 10 mg): Some deficiency may exist in as many of 25% of people living in Western societies, and may be most common in the elderly.
- Pantothenic acid (B5; 10 mg): This vitamin appears to be in short supply in the typical diet though its role in disease prevention is unknown.
- Vitamin B12 (5-100 mcg): Vitamin B12-deficiency is more common among the elderly than in healthy young people, except for vegans (vegetarians who avoid dairy and eggs) and in people who take acid-blocking drugs or antacids for long periods of time.
- Some people claim to experience improved mood, energy, and/or overall well-being when taking higher-than-RDA amounts of vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, and pantothenic acid, though this has not been demonstrated in research.
- Folic acid, B12, and pyridoxine help control homocysteine levels in the blood. Elevated homocysteine levels are associated with several diseases. Studies have shown that supplementing with one or more of these vitamins helps prevent or reverse hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and may reduce bone fractures risk.
Vitamin C (100-200 mg)
- Severe deficiency is uncommon in people who consume Western diets, but mild insufficiency is found in 6% of healthy adults and larger numbers of college students and smokers. Some authorities have suggested that optimal intake for disease prevention may be at least 90 to 100 mg per day.
- Supplementation with over 200 mg per day of vitamin C by healthy people does not result in higher vitamin C concentrations in the body, and may be no more helpful for preventing disease than smaller amounts.
Vitamin D (400-800 IU)
- Vitamin D obtained from the diet and from sunlight exposure can be insufficient, especially in older people and vegans during the winter months. Vitamin D insufficiency is associated with bone loss and fractures in older people and other studies have shown supplementing may reduced bone loss and the risk of falls in older people
- Though toxic in very high amounts, up to 2,000 IU per day is considered safe.
Vitamin E (30-400 IU)
- Once widely thought to lower risk of heart disease, other trials have negated those findings and even found a small increase in the likelihood of all-cause mortality or heart failure. Therefore, some doctors advise people not to take large amounts of vitamin E (400 IU per day or more). On the other hand, circumstantial evidence suggests that "mixed tocopherols," as opposed to the more widely used alpha-tocopherol form, may be safer and more beneficial for heart-disease prevention.
- A reduced risk of prostate cancer in smokers was reported in a double-blind trial with 50 IU per day of vitamin E. However, similar studies have not found vitamin E supplements to protect against other cancers.
Vitamin K (80 mcg)
- Deficiency severe enough to cause bleeding problems is rare in healthy people. However, low vitamin K in the blood and in the diet has been associated with osteoporosis.

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
This stuff works. There may be a few biological outliers who say it doesn't work for them but it does work at doing one thing exceptionally well; modulates chronic low level inflammation throughout the body effectively and safely with zero side effects. I have seen the results from taking Anatabloc firsthand on rosacea, IBS, and arthritis joint pain. It is dose dependent and you do have to take it 3 times a day for best results.

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
Starting in my late 50's (I am now 63) I would get a dull testicle ache at night when I would go to bed. I also had to urinate more often… some times 4 or 5 times a night and would have to go suddenly. I have a small prostrate and a low psa. The Doc kept thinking I had acute prostatitis and would prescribe antibiotics which didn't seem to help. I had read the claims about Anatabloc and inflammation but had never taken it. In January of 2012 I start taking 3 abloc a day and after 2 weeks the dull ache went away and I started going to the bathroom less. I upped the qty to 6 a day and started going 1 or none a night. Another benefit I noticed right away was I could do a full knee bend/squat again and get back up without pain which I hadn't been able to do in 10 years. I also started running faster. After taking the product for 6 months I realized another unexpected benefit …I have had an irregular heart beat for about 30 years. As I got older they were becoming more frequent and more bothersome as I could feel every one. Sometimes it was only 1 beat or it would last for a few but it would always go back to normal. In 2008 I had an episode that continued, had to go to the hospital and was diagnosed with lone atrial fibrillation (A fib with no underlying cause). The episode returned to normal after 8 hours and the doctors didn't want to do anything for it at the time, just monitor it. I did not have another full blown episode but my irregular beats continued until I was on abloc for about 4 months at which time they virtually went away (after 30 years!) I want to say it reduced them 99%. I do not understand why this helped my heart but now I take 8 abloc a day and wouldn't know what to do with out it. The only problem I have with Anatabloc is convincing other people how good it is and getting them to try it.

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
I started using Anatabloc in December 2012. After dealing with a Frozen Shoulder for a few months and spending hundreds of dollars in Physical Therapy I read about Anatabloc and decided to try it. During the first 30 days most of the paid was gone and my range of motion had improved 50% to 60%. By the second month I had almost no pain and had recovered about 80% of my range of motion. Four months later the pain is gone and my range of motion is almost 100% normal.
I also suffer from widespread joints pain and Anatabloc has made it much better. No, the joint pain is not gone but it is much better than before. I take 10 pills per day and I will continue using this product because I do feel the benefits of it and it is the only supplement I have tried that actually works.
I do recommend that you try this product.Pros

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
Small pills with pleasant flavor. Easy to take, but must remember to take them several times a day to get the full effect. This is the only non-narcotic oral pain reliever that I have found to be effective.

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
This product has worked well eliminating pain from my knees after about 3 weeks taking the prescribed amount. I took 6 per day (2 each, 3 times each day). I liked not having to swallow pills, just place in mouth. It is expensive, but would recommend it for joint pain. It has helped eliminate muscle pain, as well. It is for removing excessive inflammation from the body, not a pain reliever (my understanding from reading about the product). I think if you are not getting relief, maybe you are not taking the correct amount for your weight.

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
Only been using the product for about four weeks but it seems to work. In the pase I was taking Celebrex for joint pain. I started taking Anatabloc about four days after I ran out of the Celebrex. Within about two weeks I noticed my knee and back soreness were diminishing. It has now been about four weeks and the pain I was used to having is at the lowest point in quite a while and less than when I was using the Celebrex. The only problem is with the price. Even with the Gold Card it is more expensive than the Celebrex.

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
When I first started to research Anatabloc, I was hesitant to believe how well it would work in removing Inflammation in not just the Joint areas, but also the surronding Mucle areas-where one has pain. I am an extremely active early 50's women who after significant back surgical proceedures and chronic pain, has gotten the quality of my life back. Thank you Anatabloc!

Comments about ROCK CREEK PHARMACEUTICAL Anatabloc®:
I found this product while researching something to relieve my shoulder pain due to arthritis, old age, and repetitive injury. What I read, as a former bypass patient, 65yr old, and greatly slowing down former buzzsaw...was very interesting. I can feel my energy level returning to former levels as I am no longer in debilitating pain everyday. As a home health pediatric therapist...I move a lot in my day and my patients depend on my skills to improve their lives....
Anatabloc is certainly improving my life.- My Beauty Routine Takes:
