Health Notes

Yohimbe

Yohimbe
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

A tincture of yohimbe bark is often used in the amount of 5 to 10 drops three times per day. Standardized yohimbe extracts are also available. A typical daily amount of yohimbine is 15 to 30 mg. Obesity
Dose: Take under medical supervision: enough to supply 5 mg of yohimbine four times per day

The ability of yohimbine, a chemical found in yohimbe bark, to stimulate the nervous system, 1, 2 and to promote the release of fat from fat cells,3, 4 has led to claims that it might help weight loss by raising metabolic rate, reducing appetite, or increase fat burning. Although a preliminary trial found yohimbine ineffective for weight loss, a double-blind study found that women taking 5 mg of yohimbine four times per day along with a weight-loss diet lost significantly more weight than those taking a placebo with the same diet after three weeks.5 However, a similar study using 18 mg per day of yohimbine for eight weeks reported no benefit to weight loss compared with a placebo.6 A double-blind study of men who were not dieting reported no effect of up to 43 mg per day of yohimbine on weight or body composition after six months.7 All of these studies used pure yohimbine; no study has tested the effects of yohimbe herb on weight loss.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

The ability of yohimbine, a chemical found in yohimbe bark, to stimulate the nervous system,1, 2 promote the release of fat from fat cells,3, 4 and affect the cardiovascular system 5 has led to claims that yohimbe might help athletic performance or improve body composition. However, a double-blind study of men who were not dieting reported no effect of up to 43 mg per day of yohimbine on weight or body composition after six months.6 No research has tested yohimbe herb for effects on body composition, and no human research has investigated the ability of yohimbine or yohimbe to affect athletic performance. Other studies have determined that a safe daily amount of yohimbine is 15 to 30 mg.7 However, people with kidney disorders should not take yohimbe, and side effects of nausea, dizziness, or nervousness may occur that necessitate reducing or stopping yohimbe supplementation.

Parts Used & Where Grown

Yohimbe is a tall evergreen forest tree native to southwestern Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, and the Congo. The bark of this African tree is used medicinally. There are concerns, however, that the tree may be endangered due to over-harvesting for use as medicine.

Comments about GNC HERBAL PLUS STANDARDIZED GNC Herbal Plus® Standardized Yohimbe:

This stuff works if you know how to take it. For the people that says its harsh; its because they took it before researching it. First of, This stuff will definitely keep you up all night if you take it before bed. The first time i took it, I took one in the morning, then another the same evening. I literally didnt sleep a bit for the whole entire night. So DO NOT take it anytime after noon if you are planning on sleeping that night. I work a part time night job, so it coomes in very handy to keep me up at nights. if you take it on an empty stomach, it will make you feel dizzy and nauseous. So make sure you eat before or right after. It also definitely boosts my "Drive". Not a whole lot, but i could definitley the difference when i`m doing the do. It also gets the blood pumping real and sometimes makes my heart race. My recomendation is to start slowly by taking just ONE pill in the morning. See how your body reacts to it. If its too harsh, then cut the capsul and pour out half of it. It is a very strong suppliment. What ever you do NEVER take more than one pill in a day. Only take it when you need it. I use it about every other day.

Comments about GNC HERBAL PLUS STANDARDIZED GNC Herbal Plus® Standardized Yohimbe:

I use Yohimbe as a fat burner, appetite suppressor and just generally as a feel good supplement. Yes, when taken on an empty stomach, it does make one dizzy, lightheaded, jittery and a bit nauseous, but that's honestly okay with me because i know it's working. You get used to it after awhile anyway. this is a great supplement and can be stacked with other supplements, but there really is no need. I cycle on and off it after a couple weeks use, and when cycling on again, it seems to work faster and last longer. I love it!

Comments about GNC HERBAL PLUS STANDARDIZED GNC Herbal Plus® Standardized Yohimbe:

I've taken Yohimbe for a year now. Because I avoid stimulants, I take Yohimbe for energy. It gives you energy by increasing blood flow and it helps increase testosterone (but don't rely on Yohimbe alone for a boost in testosterone). This is an excellent supplement, it's highly effective and versatile, it helps with weight loss as well, (many fat burners have Yohimbe). If you experienced any negative side effects, I'm afraid you were just given bad advice. If you have high blood pressure and/or are sensitive to stimulants, this is not the supplement for you, everyone else should try it!

49 yrs old with ED looking for options I tried this product and using this according to the indications, 1 per day. I only took it two days and after day number 5 I was anxious, lightheaded, could not stand on my feet, nauseas, vomiting and I had to miss work to go to the Dr. They gave me treatment for vertigos and Dr recomended to throw the pills away. Please take in consideration my experience and dont jeopardize yourself. Im a healthy male with just an Ed condition.
When I went to the GNC store the attendant was really nice to me and I asked him if he had internet access to look at the reviews of this product he said no. Having more ionformation about the product I would have not bought it.

Yohimbe worked well for me but I read the review from the lady who had a bad reaction to this compound. Always be careful as a first time user. I would recommend that a first time user cuts open a gelcap with a scalpel and ingests a small finger dab of the powder - it tasted OK to me. If all is OK then I would take half of the gelcap the next day. Again if this is OK then you should be OK taking a full gelcap the next time.

I have been taking this for 3 years and I love this product. I know it is traditionally for men but i have had no negative side effects. I lost weight(which was its original purpose) and I had more energy and more focus throughout the day. The boost to the sex drive was an unexpected bonus! I don't get jittery as long as I eat something within an hour of taking it. One cap a day works great for me. Must take it upon waking though or it does cause some sleep problems. I have went from a size 16 jeans to a size 3 in one year.
