Valerian
ValerianCommon names:Fragrant Valerian, Heliotrope- Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
- Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
- For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.
Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.
For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Valerian Root:
I started taking this over a month ago. I purchased the 100-tablet bottle and took 4 before bedtime as recommended by my doctor to help with my insomnia. At first I took it every night for 1 week and in week 2 I took it every other night. Now my doctor has me skipping 3 days between doses and I still sleep at least 8 hours every night. The only mistake I made was when the tablets ran out, I purchased another bottle and did not notice that they were capsules until I got home. I figured that they would have the same benefit as long as I take them with plenty of water. I always drink a 20 ounce bottle of water so I took my usual dose of 4 (capsules) around 9pm and went to bed at 11pm. By 1am I awoke gagging and coughing. I had a bad taste in my mouth, severe heartburn and I could feel the capsules in the back of my throat. I drank 2 more 20oz bottles of water but I could not get rid of the bad taste in my mouth the capsules were still not going down. The 1-litre bottle of seltzer water did nothing to ease my heartburn either. I was up until around 5am as I was afraid that if I laid down I might start choking again. I decided to have a hot cup of tea to help me relax and I guess the heat was what I needed to digest the capsules and also ease my heartburn. I returned the capsules and exchanged them for the original tablets which turns out to be cheaper. This is a good sleep aid and it's not habit forming so I would recommend it. The only thing is there should be a warning on the capsule bottle to let consumers know that it's harder to digest so you have to take it with more water and maybe take at an earlier time before going to bed to prevent heartburn. On the other hand, the tablets are easier on the digestive system (easy to swallow and never have heartburn when I take them) so consumers should also be notified of this as an alternative to the capsules.

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Valerian Root:
After taking this the first time I noticed a change in my mood. It is a mood altering supplement but it effects in a negative fashion. During the night I begin to feel restless, jittery, and a an overwhelming sense of anxiety. This is not normal for me, but I do have problems falling asleep. It made me feel drousy, but all the symptoms started as I begin to fall asleep. I would not recommend this product. Based on the reviews, maybe it works for those who already experience anxiety and fear on a regular basis.

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Valerian Root:
I Have been using this product for around 2 months now, for its Oneirogenic (dream inducing), Anxiolytic (Anxiety reduction) and sleep inducing capabilities.
Valerian Root has quickly become a GNC favorite of mine! 1-3 caps before bed relatively ensures a full nights rest and, in my experience, with almost as high a chance of remembering your dreams from during the night.
During the day, I can use as necessary for its wonderful anxiolytic and depressant effects, without being forced to sleep.
The only cons I can even come up with for this amazing product, are its poor taste and smell (like sweaty armpit), but that's hardly noticeable in comparison to its many benefits (as referenced by its second most common name, All-Heal).
Overall, this is a wonderful product. It does far more than its label would suggest, and for a great price! Highly Recommended, a true 5/5!Pros

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Valerian Root:
I do not always get a restful sleep. My husband bought this for me, knowing I am a fanatic about "all natural". I have only taken this a few times and so far, it is awesome. I wake up feeling rested and sleep the whole night through. I have not had any side effects and I am not on any medication. However, I was prescribed Ambien and did not like it! I almost felt jittery before laying down and felt so heavy when I would wake up. I do not feel this way taking Valerian Root. If anything changes, I will let you know.
