Black Cohosh
Black Cohosh- Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
- Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
- For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.
Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.
For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Black cohosh is a shrub-like plant native to the eastern deciduous forests of North America, ranging from southern Ontario to Georgia, north to Wisconsin and west to Arkansas. The dried root and rhizome are used medicinally.1 When harvested from the wild, the root is black in color. Cohosh, an Algonquin Indian word meaning "rough," refers to the plants gnarly root structure.2

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Black Cohosh:
I started getting hot flashes really bad. As much as 5 per hour, all day long :( I started taking this twice a day. It didn't seem to be working, but after approximately 2 weeks the flashes started to subside some. Now it's been about 3-1/2 weeks and I might get one a day, if that. I'm much happier.... And so is everyone else ;)

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Black Cohosh:
As a Migraine sufferer I cannot take the normal hormone replacement that is offered for menopause. I have been using Black Cohosh for a while now but when you first take it, you have to allow for it to build up in your system. I find that it does work for me but for some of my friends who have tried it, some found that it did work for them and others did not, so it really is a case of trial and error. I would recommend that other women try it especially if they are worried about hormone replacement and the side effects.

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Black Cohosh:
I take two pills once a day. I lost my job and couldn't afford my estrogen "premarin" anymore. A friend told me about black cohosh - standardized. I've taken it for several months and I can tell NO difference from my estrogen. I can't believe it. I would recommend this to every single woman going through menopause. Make sure to get the "standardized" black cohosh, none other. It's so much cheaper than estrogen. I'll never go back.

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Black Cohosh:
Complete waste of time. My hot flashes came back. Like the previous user, I used to use the Nature's Fingerprint 540mg Black Cohosh which was highly effective. I went into GNC and the guy ASSURED me that these new ones were just as good. I think we need to make all men (esp. those working in GNC) go through menopause, just to see how ineffective some of their products are. Bring back the Nature's Fingerprint 540mg Black Cohosh so I can get rid of these hot flashes. PLEASE!

Cons

Comments about GNC Herbal Plus Standardized® Black Cohosh:
I have used the GNC Nature's Fingerprint Black Cohosh for years. It's 540 mg. I take 2 capsules in the morning and 2 capsules in the evening. It works great. The "new and improved" kind does not work. At all. Why do companies have to change products? It's irritating.
