Health Notes

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Conjugated Linoleic Acid
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams daily
Though the evidence is conflicting, some studies have shown CLA to be effective at helping people lose body fat. (more)
Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Conjugated linoleic acid may play a role in reducing body fat. Research has reported that CLA supplementation produces minor gains in muscle size and strength in weight-training men.(more)
Prostate Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce the risk of cancers at several sites, including breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, skin, and stomach.(more)
Breast Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce breast cancer risk.(more)
Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams dailyA double-blind trial found that exercising individuals taking 1,800 mg per day of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) lost more body fat after 12 weeks than did a similar group taking a placebo.1 However, two other studies found that amounts of CLA from 0.7 to 3.0 grams per day did not affect body composition.2, 3 Most double-blind trials have found that larger amounts of CLA, 3.2 to 4.2 grams per day, do reduce body fat;4, 5, 6, 7 however, one double-blind study of experienced strength-training athletes reported no effect of 6 grams per day of CLA on body fat, muscle mass, or strength improvement.8

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a slightly altered form of the essential fatty acid linoleic acid. Animal research suggests an effect of CLA supplementation on reducing body fat.1, 2 Controlled human research has reported that 5.6 to 7.2 grams per day of CLA produces only non-significant gains in muscle size and strength in experienced and inexperienced weight-training men.3, 4, 5 A double-blind study of a group of trained men and women reported reduced body fat in the upper arm after 12 weeks of supplementation with 1.8 grams per day of CLA.6 Further research using more accurate techniques for measuring body composition is needed to confirm these findings.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

When I started these vitamins I had a hard time trying to figure out the right times for consumption. I went back into Gnc where the administration of pills was explained. I took Vita Pak for 3 months I had no results. I was astonished to see that all vitamins combined could show no effect.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

First off, I've taken the GNC Mega women's Vitapak in the past and was prepared for the number of pills and the brightly colored urine. I've also been pleased with the results from that one. I'd never been told HOW to take the pills so that was nice. Much easier to take 5 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon. These always upset my stomach if taken without food, everyone is different.

My energy level is definitely increased, my appetite has decreased significantly. I can't tell if I've lost pounds, but I'm definitely losing inches and people have noticed. The guy at GNC recommended taking Genetix HD in the afternoons since a lot of my workouts are in the late afternoon / early evenings. I'm still on the fence with that stuff. Makes me way too jittery. However, this stuff seems to be effective.

We're all different. Bottom line. If you exercise and pay somewhat attention to what you eat you'll notice some results. They probably won't be drastic but it's nice to have another tool in the fitness / weight loss arena.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

I'm new to this whole health thing, that's why it's a 3 star rating, mainly because of how easy it is to take and get started. I've been wanting to get in shape for a long time just never had the push. I was skeptical about the price because it's a bit high but I got the buy 1 get 1 half off deal and told myself that if it didn't work within the 2 months that I've paid for then I would end it. So far I'm on day 2 and I'm not expecting a drastic change in the first month like most but I was reading reviews yesterday and a lot of people were upset that after 3 weeks they've only lost a few pounds and saying not to buy it because it doesn't work... That would be great if I was able to lose weight within 3 weeks so obviously... it works. The taste isn't so bad people over exaggerate just a little. You choose you're own routine because there are no instructions on the box on when to take them. Good luck to the others out there trying this product. I will give a better opinion in 2 months when I've finished my set

I was looking for a product to assist me with weight loss and endurance with a new intense workout routine. The GNC guy recommended this product to me and explained all of the benefits. I am drinking a lot of water & tracking my meals in addition. I am following his recommendations: For pre workout I take the X12 & water X, AM: 1 multi 2 CLA & biotin PM: 1 multi 2 CLA So far I have lost 3.4 lbs, it has only been 4 days. I feel very good & have zero stomach issues (normally very sensitive to vitamins)

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

I'm on my third week of using the Vitapak and I must say I am getting tired of taking 9 PILLS EVERY MORNING! I workout 4-5 days per week however I wake up at 5 am every morning so I take the energy (Red) pill to cut out the coffee. Regardless, if i cut that out in the morning i'd still be taking 8 (still way too many). But on the bright side, i do feel a significant difference in the way my body feels, im not as slumpy and I'm losing inches! (Not so much losing pounds only because I've been weight training the past couple weeks). Oh, and watch out for the neon green urine. MY honest opinion, you can find a different supplement that requires swallowing less amount of pills with a higher concentration, don't waste your money. I will be finishing this 30 day supply out, luckily i caught it on sale for $45!

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

I normally drink Total Lean shakes (great for active people), but changing my job to where I was very active to sitting behind a desk, a change in supplements was a must. I am on week 3 now, and besides the amount of pills I have to take, it isn't that bad. I have more energy, and I have lost about 4 pounds, but inches are melting away faster than pounds which is ok in my books. I split up my pills, half in the morning, half at lunch (both times with a full glass of water, and some fruit or veggies, and the red pill before I work out. If I do not do this, my stomach is sour all day.I do notice a funky after taste from certain pills, and yes your urine looks like nuclear waste, so drink plenty of water! Overall I like this product. I am sure if I moved around more, the weight would fall off.

I never write reviews, but decided I needed to on this product. I had plateaued at 140 lbs. for about 4 months and couldn't seem to move beyond that weight. I decided to stop at GNC and get recommendations. I have been using the vitapak for a month now and have lost an additional 7 pounds. This product not only makes me feel better, but gives me energy I have never had to exercise. I am so happy I started this product and begin my 2nd box this morning!

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

Being menopausal, I had put on about 20 pounds from Summer 2012 to December 2013. I was very uncomfortable. The GNC clerk told me about this vitapak and wrote down "when to take" instructions. (In the morning at breakfast, one vitamin, one CLA, the waterX, and the Biotin. Afternoon with lunch-one CLA, 2nd vitamin, and X-12 if not working out. If working out, take the X-12 30-60 min before workout. Dinner-One CLA, Before bed-last CLA). In addition to this vitapak, I also used "Total Lean 25" and substituted a meal here and there with a protein shake. I cut out alcohol and snacking on chips. Between Jan and March 2014, I lost 16 pounds. April and May, I've lost another 4. I'm working out on average about 3 -4 times per week: 30 min walking on treadmill and 30 min light weight lifting. I'm back down to my Summer 2012 weight and feel great! DO NOT TAKE THE X-12 ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! If you're not taking it with a meal, at least drink a protein shake with it; otherwise, you will "flush"-turn red all over and get a little light headed. This product has been the only thing that has helped me lose fat weight. I have had no other side effects other than the occasional flushing when I took the X-12 without food. I would definitely recommend this product!
