Health Notes

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Conjugated Linoleic Acid
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams daily
Though the evidence is conflicting, some studies have shown CLA to be effective at helping people lose body fat. (more)
Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Conjugated linoleic acid may play a role in reducing body fat. Research has reported that CLA supplementation produces minor gains in muscle size and strength in weight-training men.(more)
Prostate Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce the risk of cancers at several sites, including breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, skin, and stomach.(more)
Breast Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce breast cancer risk.(more)
Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams dailyA double-blind trial found that exercising individuals taking 1,800 mg per day of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) lost more body fat after 12 weeks than did a similar group taking a placebo.1 However, two other studies found that amounts of CLA from 0.7 to 3.0 grams per day did not affect body composition.2, 3 Most double-blind trials have found that larger amounts of CLA, 3.2 to 4.2 grams per day, do reduce body fat;4, 5, 6, 7 however, one double-blind study of experienced strength-training athletes reported no effect of 6 grams per day of CLA on body fat, muscle mass, or strength improvement.8

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a slightly altered form of the essential fatty acid linoleic acid. Animal research suggests an effect of CLA supplementation on reducing body fat.1, 2 Controlled human research has reported that 5.6 to 7.2 grams per day of CLA produces only non-significant gains in muscle size and strength in experienced and inexperienced weight-training men.3, 4, 5 A double-blind study of a group of trained men and women reported reduced body fat in the upper arm after 12 weeks of supplementation with 1.8 grams per day of CLA.6 Further research using more accurate techniques for measuring body composition is needed to confirm these findings.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

I normally drink Total Lean shakes (great for active people), but changing my job to where I was very active to sitting behind a desk, a change in supplements was a must. I am on week 3 now, and besides the amount of pills I have to take, it isn't that bad. I have more energy, and I have lost about 4 pounds, but inches are melting away faster than pounds which is ok in my books. I split up my pills, half in the morning, half at lunch (both times with a full glass of water, and some fruit or veggies, and the red pill before I work out. If I do not do this, my stomach is sour all day.I do notice a funky after taste from certain pills, and yes your urine looks like nuclear waste, so drink plenty of water! Overall I like this product. I am sure if I moved around more, the weight would fall off.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

I never write reviews, but decided I needed to on this product. I had plateaued at 140 lbs. for about 4 months and couldn't seem to move beyond that weight. I decided to stop at GNC and get recommendations. I have been using the vitapak for a month now and have lost an additional 7 pounds. This product not only makes me feel better, but gives me energy I have never had to exercise. I am so happy I started this product and begin my 2nd box this morning!

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

Being menopausal, I had put on about 20 pounds from Summer 2012 to December 2013. I was very uncomfortable. The GNC clerk told me about this vitapak and wrote down "when to take" instructions. (In the morning at breakfast, one vitamin, one CLA, the waterX, and the Biotin. Afternoon with lunch-one CLA, 2nd vitamin, and X-12 if not working out. If working out, take the X-12 30-60 min before workout. Dinner-One CLA, Before bed-last CLA). In addition to this vitapak, I also used "Total Lean 25" and substituted a meal here and there with a protein shake. I cut out alcohol and snacking on chips. Between Jan and March 2014, I lost 16 pounds. April and May, I've lost another 4. I'm working out on average about 3 -4 times per week: 30 min walking on treadmill and 30 min light weight lifting. I'm back down to my Summer 2012 weight and feel great! DO NOT TAKE THE X-12 ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! If you're not taking it with a meal, at least drink a protein shake with it; otherwise, you will "flush"-turn red all over and get a little light headed. This product has been the only thing that has helped me lose fat weight. I have had no other side effects other than the occasional flushing when I took the X-12 without food. I would definitely recommend this product!

Suggested by the GNC worker.

I'm on week 2 and I see the change. Weight loss and energy through the roof! I will stick with this pack for quite some time.

Take with food - (I use the Total Lean Shakes!) and you won't have a problem.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

Considering that I am a rookie to this fitness world the most shocking part was the neon colored urine! Wish someone would have warned me! Other than that some of the pills are very large and have an after taste. So far they have helped with my lack of energy and appetite. I have read about a lot of multi-vitamins and I choose this one because it was the most detailed and everything that is recommended to take is all in a simple pack.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

Great product, the clerk in the GNC turned me to these vitamins, said it would help in getting lean muscle and losing weight and toning up which is exactly what I wanted. So far I've lost weight, have plenty of energy to do my workouts (running or weightlifting alt days) and I am building muscle and lifting way more than when I first started a month ago. Yeah CLA's totally give you energy and thermogenics work too,i sweat out excess water and keep warm, little overheated at times but nothing air conditioning in the gym can't fix. My only con to this product is I seem to develop acne or more of it. I have normally oily skin but I've noticed more acne since I started. But i'm definitely more toned up and getting leaner so i'm going to continue to take it. Everyone says to take with food but honestly I have no problem taking it on a empty stomach, but make sure to drink plenty of water with it so it absorbs. alteast 8oz glass for sure. but I feel no nausea when I take it on an empty stomach. so I think it works really well.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

I just started using this product and I'm very pleased. The directions are clear to take 30 min-1hr before you work out with food. I learned that the hard way after the first day, but like any other vitamin it will upset your stomach if you don't have food. The bad taste is just from the fish oil not much you can do about it but if pills were meant to taste good everyone would be taking them. I did a lot of research for woman's body building supplements and it was a chore went to GNC he showed me what it was how it worked and what it does without having to take testosterone with it to build. The theromgenics work really well for me at least I sweat and feel warm. My skin is a lot less dry over all I am completely pleased.

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

I was looking to get more toned. I really didn't care what the scale said anymore. I am noticing I am getting more toned in my legs, hips, stomach and thighs than I ever had before (same exercise program). I take 5 pills in the morning, 4 in the evening. The energy pill just isn't enough for me. I'm up from 8am-2am and I am exhausted by 6pm, wanting to grab a cup of coffee (which coffee now tastes disgusting to me).
Overall, if you are done trying to lose the weight and are wanting to get toned, this product works!

Comments about GNC Pro Performance® AMP Women's Ripped Vitapak® Program:

Well... I have been taking these for 2 weeks now, and while i have not really seen the results on a weightloss level (only about 2 pounds so far) I have come to find that I really have minimal cravings of sugar and junk food. I normally drink coffee w/cream and sugar... even on my first day or two i never reached for the sugar and never even missed it! Also, I realized that i have not in any way been craving junk food. We had a party over the weekend and i didn't even look twice at the chips. I was not sure whether or not this was just a mental thing, because I have the mind set of sticking to my diet and doing my exercise 6 days a week,,, well today was a test to that theory, because i didnt have time this morning to follow my normal routine with breakfast and half the pack of pills. When i had gotten to work, i realized i had left the pills at home. I made it through the day, but when i had my coffee with cream only, it was extremely bitter and i WANTED sugar!! The thought of wendy's crossed my mind several times throughout the day and i almost hit a drivethru for lunch! When i got home, i wanted the leftover chips from the party! I immediately realized, the cravings must be coming from not taking the pills. So I think that they do help along those lines. Again, whether or not they help with weightloss, only time will tell. I hope to update this review in another 2 weeks when my 30 day supply runs out, so i can give a full review! Good luck to you all - stay strong!!

Product is great for daily vitamin use. It gives me energy all day and i still can sleep at night. I work out 2-3 times a week and just now started to eat right. I have taken these for 34 days now and see no results in helping with weight loss. I have always taken the pack in two doses half in the morning and half at lunch. The worst part of this regimen is the horrible acne on my face. I have now stopped taking the gel pills to see if my face will clear up. I will continue to take the pack except for the gel pills.
