Niacinamide for Skin Protection?
Niacinamide for Skin Protection?
Be especially careful about sun exposure at high altitudes, in the snow, and on the beachNew research suggests that niacinamide (vitamin B3) has potential skin protection benefits. A study in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology found that people who took daily niacinamide reduced the number of actinic keratoses (precursors to skin cancer) on their skin by more than 30%.Niacinamide linked to fewer skin lesions
In this study, 76 healthy men and women (ages 48 to 90) who had at least four actinic keratoses were randomly assigned to receive 500 mg of niacinamide once daily or twice daily, or placebo for four months. All participants had skin examinations before the study and at two and four months.
Results showed that both niacinamide groups had about one-third fewer actinic keratoses at four months compared with the control group. The niacinamide group also had a lower risk of developing a new skin cancer lesion during the study period compared with the control group (11 placebo participants developed 20 new skin cancers and 2 niacinamide participants developed 4 cancers).
It isn't exactly clear how niacinamide may help prevent lesions that may lead to skin cancer, but the study authors comment that niacinamide may help repair damaged DNA and help boost our immune system. They report that niacinamide is "highly immune protective in humans" and has been shown to prevent cancer in mice. Further research is needed about dosages and safety. Higher doses of niacinamide than those used in this study have been linked to a risk of liver damage.
Always talk with a doctor before starting a supplement to understand more about the risks and benefits.
Steps toward skin protection
Skin cancer is a common type of cancer, but the good news is that there are things we can do to help prevent them. Experts recommend these and other steps for protecting your skin:
- Enjoy the sun but don't overdo it. Avoid sunburns and blistering.
- Avoid the sun and seek shade during peak hours (10 AM to 4 PM).
- Wear sunscreen and reapply as needed.
- Wear a hat and sunglasses and consider other protective clothing-even long sleeves and pants.
- Be especially careful about sun exposure at high altitudes, in the snow, and on the beach.
- Have your skin checked regularly by a doctor.
- Ask a doctor how to examine your own skin and what to look for in terms of suspicious moles or growths that could be cancer or turn into cancer

Comments about NNF Now® Grapeseed Oil:
I picked this up at our local mall's GNC, with the intent of using it on our cats. Oil kills fleas. I had been using coconut oil, but that stuff sticks and the cats became an oily mess. I had read people have used this on their hair as a conditioner, so I figured it wouldn't be too much of an issue in cat fur. Almond oil didn't work - it was just as thick as coconut oil, and there are misgivings about almond toxicity and cats, anyway. I couldn't find anything bad about grapeseed oil, people have even orally given it to their cats.
Anyway, I've stuck to just around their necks, down their spine to the base of their tail, and behind their ears. I've done it to just one so far, and honestly? After she's been cleaning herself for a few minutes? Fur is not NEARLY as oily as anything else. Here's to hoping!Pros

Comments about NNF Now® Grapeseed Oil:
My hair felt dry after my perm and I searched for something oil based but non greasy. I bought this thinking it would be great! I ended up using it more on my body as a moisturizer than my hair. I love that it makes my skin feel silky, smooth and hydrated but not greasy or oily. I even use it on my feet for at home pedicures ~ it's great! I haven't used it in the kitchen, however I read that it was edible; mine stays in the bathroom!

Comments about NNF Now® Grapeseed Oil:
I have NEVER gone back to a website to comment on a recent purchase, but I am so in LOVE. I only received this oil 3 days ago, and already I have noticed my skin is moisturized well, not greasy. My dry scaly patches GONE and it seems to have magically 'healed' some stubborn, "old-lady" acne that didn't want to go away. (i'm 42). Can't WAIT to see what long term use does. Great VALUE!!

Comments about NNF Now® Grapeseed Oil:
No, I don't cook with it. It's an excellent moisturizer for the entire body -- yes, even your face. I've used a lot of high priced creams and nothing absorbs or moisturizes like the grape oil. Use right after the shower with your favorite essential oil and you're good for the whole day.

Comments about NNF Now® Grapeseed Oil:
I have very sensitive skin and usually oils would cause extra breakouts but not this. I have beeen using Now Grapeseed oil for three years now and it leaves my skin soft. You only need a few drops. You can also rub a little in your hands and apply onto your entire body for a light silky easily absorbed body oil.
