Health Notes

Conjugated Linoleic Acid

Conjugated Linoleic Acid
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams daily
Though the evidence is conflicting, some studies have shown CLA to be effective at helping people lose body fat. (more)
Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Conjugated linoleic acid may play a role in reducing body fat. Research has reported that CLA supplementation produces minor gains in muscle size and strength in weight-training men.(more)
Prostate Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce the risk of cancers at several sites, including breast, prostate, colorectal, lung, skin, and stomach.(more)
Breast Cancer
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Preliminary research suggests that CLA might reduce breast cancer risk.(more)
Obesity
Dose: 3.2 to 4.2 grams dailyA double-blind trial found that exercising individuals taking 1,800 mg per day of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) lost more body fat after 12 weeks than did a similar group taking a placebo.1 However, two other studies found that amounts of CLA from 0.7 to 3.0 grams per day did not affect body composition.2, 3 Most double-blind trials have found that larger amounts of CLA, 3.2 to 4.2 grams per day, do reduce body fat;4, 5, 6, 7 however, one double-blind study of experienced strength-training athletes reported no effect of 6 grams per day of CLA on body fat, muscle mass, or strength improvement.8

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a slightly altered form of the essential fatty acid linoleic acid. Animal research suggests an effect of CLA supplementation on reducing body fat.1, 2 Controlled human research has reported that 5.6 to 7.2 grams per day of CLA produces only non-significant gains in muscle size and strength in experienced and inexperienced weight-training men.3, 4, 5 A double-blind study of a group of trained men and women reported reduced body fat in the upper arm after 12 weeks of supplementation with 1.8 grams per day of CLA.6 Further research using more accurate techniques for measuring body composition is needed to confirm these findings.

Comments about GNC Total Lean™ Burn 60™ - Cinnamon Flavored:

Today is my first day taking burn 60. I took it 45 minutes before working out, and I started sweating after I worked out for 5 minutes! I usually work out for 45~60 minutes then I've got to take a rest because I am too tired. However, today I felt energetic while working out, and I worked out non-stop for an hour! At the same time, I sweated a lot. If you are still looking for an effective fantastic weight loss product, don't be hesitating and buy burn 60! It wouldn't waste your money!

Comments about GNC Total Lean™ Burn 60™ - Cinnamon Flavored:

Burn 60 gives me the energy needed to get through my intense workouts. It doesn't curb my appetite and I was able to lose weight and keep it off afterwards. I wouldn't contribute my weight management completely to BURN 60 (diet and exercise are extremely important).

Comments about GNC Total Lean™ Burn 60™ - Cinnamon Flavored:

I take Burn 60 30-60 minutes before I go on runs and it absolutely helps with giving me an extra kick usually around mile 3. I've definitely noticed a weight loss of about 8 pounds over the past month and I'd like to believe that this helped with some extra calorie burn, but picking up running again definitely has helped along with a reduced calorie diet. It really only boosts metabolism, so you do need to accompany it with either a CLA and/or recovery protein for most effective results. However, definitely an essential.

Comments about GNC Total Lean™ Burn 60™ - Cinnamon Flavored:

This formula is great. The taste makes me gag every time, but the results are worth it. Take this with the regular CLA from the Total Lean line and you'll be as toned up as your body can get without working out...seriously (the catch is that you have to watch what you eat though - lots of protein and minimal carbs). Also, they do stop working after a while so after your second or third bottle, stop taking for a cpl weeks and then go back on to jumpstart them again.

At first this product worked for about four days I had more energy, curbed appetite, then I started to become irritable, nervous, tired, and nauseous to the point I couldn't even sit up without feeling sick. I am not use to taking any thermogenic so I was giving this one a shot and drinking lots of water. After a week and a half of use I could not take any more of the side affects and had to discontinue. I feel so much better.
