Brewer's Yeast
Brewer's Yeast- Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
- Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
- For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.
Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.
For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.
This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:
Used for Amount Why Type 2 Diabetes9 grams per day
[3 stars] Chromium-rich brewer's yeast has been shown to be useful in treating type 2 diabetes in several ways, including by improving glucose tolerance.Infectious DiarrheaThree capsulesor tablets three times per day
[2 stars] Supplementing with brewer's yeast has been shown to improve immune function and change the flora living in the intestine, and may relieve infectious diarrhea.Brewer's yeast is the dried, pulverized cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a type of fungus, and is a rich source of B-complex vitamins, protein (providing all essential amino acids), and minerals, including a biologically active form of chromium known as glucose tolerance factor (GTF). Brewer's yeast is usually a by-product of the brewing industry and should not be confused with nutritional yeast or torula yeast, which are low in chromium.

Comments about GNC Now® Debittered Brewer's Yeast:
I got this for a recipe for lactation cookies to help maintain my supply. Works well, with oats and flax meal recipe. I also add it to my morning oatmeal with, almond butter, honey, chopped or whole almonds, and a sliced banana. You can hardly taste it that way. I only wish they had all the nutritional content on the label and had more brands of the powder form to choose from.

Comments about GNC Now® Debittered Brewer's Yeast:
I had a supply shortage while breastfeeding. Along with the usual suggestions, my lactation consultant recommended brewers yeast. So I ran out to GNC and got the only one they had. I did not know it was a powder. It tastes like a beer that has been sitting on the counter for about 3 days. Directions say to put in juice or milk, grape juice is the only thing i found so far that makes it drinkable. This was after vomiting up the powder with milk, water, OJ, apple juice, and a few others. If you are dead set on getting brewers yeast, get the pill form!
Pros
- Protein and B-vitamins
Cons
- Not for everyone
Best Uses
- With your morning juice
Comments about GNC Now® Debittered Brewer's Yeast:
I've been taking brewer's yeast for years, and I've had better tasting products, but it's brewer's yeast, not a flavored protein shake. I mix a heaping teaspoon into my morning OJ before bed, put it in the fridge, and by morning it is completely dissolved and tastes good. It's an acquired taste, like scotch.
