Health Notes

Red Raspberry

Red Raspberry
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Support
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Many tonic herbs, which are believed to strengthen or invigorate organ systems or the entire body, can be taken safely every day during pregnancy. Examples include dandelion leaf and root, red raspberry leaf, and nettle. Dandelion leaf and root are rich sources of vitamins and minerals, including beta-carotene, calcium, potassium, and iron. Dandelion leaf is mildly diuretic (promotes urine flow); it also stimulates bile flow and helps with the common digestive complaints of pregnancy. Dandelion root is traditionally used to strengthen and invigorate the liver.1

Red raspberry leaf is the most frequently mentioned traditional herbal tonic for general support of pregnancy and breast-feeding. Rich in vitamins and minerals (especially iron), it is traditionally used to strengthen and invigorate the uterus, increase milk flow, and restore the mother's system after childbirth.2

Diarrhea
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Astringent herbs traditionally used for diarrhea include blackberry leaves, blackberry root bark, blueberry leaves, and red raspberry leaves.1 Raspberry leaves are high in tannins and, like blackberry, may relieve acute diarrhea. A close cousin of the blueberry, bilberry, has been used traditionally in Germany for adults and children with diarrhea.2 Only dried berries or juice should be used-fresh berries may worsen diarrhea.

Cranesbill has been used by several of the indigenous tribes of North America to treat diarrhea. The tannins in cranesbill likely account for the anti-diarrheal activity3-although there has been little scientific research to clarify cranesbill's constituents and actions.

Comments about NATURES BEST Nature's Best® Isopure Zero Carb - Blue Raspberry:

Isopure - Nature's Best protein drinks are delicious and don't have the milky composition. Given that most protein drinks are chocolate or vanilla, it's great to have flavors like Blue Raspberry. The main drawback is the high price, but buying in bulk saves enough $ to warrant the purchase.

          • For Workouts

Comments about NATURES BEST Nature's Best® Isopure Zero Carb - Blue Raspberry:

          I absolutely love this drink.

I work out every two or three days and generally do power lifting with a short 20 minutes of high-intensity anaerobic cardio afterwards. So when I leave the gym my body is wrecked. While, for me, that's a plus, I had to really amp up my nutrition to make sure I recovered fast enough to avoid overtraining and injury.

That's where this drink comes in. I take about half a bottle (20g protein) and mix it with a low-sugar juice such as pure cranberry (9g sugar) or blueberry (18g sugar), in which case I obviously use less. I top it off with some water and l-glutamine. Then I bring the drink with me during my workout and sip on it while I lift. I'll take a big swig before I start the cardio and then finish it off as I leave the gym.

This way I get my protein without overloading my digestive system, I get my simple carbs which work towards glucose delivery and building my muscles as I'm tearing them down, and I stay hydrated and keep my body primed for recovery with glutamine. Immediately after the gym I go for more carbs and an apple (simple-sugars plus lots of vitamin C).

Since I've started this routine I've been seeing awesome progress. And this product makes it so easy. I use GNC Wheybolic Extreme protein as well, which I love, but it isn't ideal for during your workout - which, as many athletes know (and many gym buffs don't) - is an equally important time to be focusing on getting your essentials into your body.

          The only complaint: Add potassium!!
