Health Notes

Rice Protein

Rice Protein
This nutrient has been used in connection with the following health goals
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Atherosclerosis
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Though not yet proven in clinical research, animal studies suggest that rice protein-based diets result in less buildup of atherosclerotic plaque compared with animal protein-based diets. (more)
Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Some athletes believe rice protein may also improve blood flow to muscle to enhance growth and repair. However, no research has investigated the effects of rice protein on athletic performance. (more)
Obesity
Dose: Refer to label instructions
Dieters who are gluten or dairy sensitive and looking to supplement protein might consider rice protein, though its actual benefits for weight loss have not been studied.(more)
Atherosclerosis
Dose: Refer to label instructionsAnimal studies suggest that rice protein-based diets result in less buildup of atherosclerotic plaque compared with animal protein-based diets.1 This effect may be due to mechanisms involving antioxidant function,2 cholesterol metabolism,3 or insulin function.4 Controlled human studies are needed to determine whether consuming rice protein can prevent or treat atherosclerotic disease.

Athletic Performance
Dose: Refer to label instructions

Compared with other protein supplements, rice protein has more of the amino acid arginine, and since arginine is a vasodilator that can enhance blood flow to tissues, some athletes believe rice protein may also improve blood flow to muscle to enhance growth and repair. However, no research has investigated the effects of rice protein on athletic performance.

Obesity
Dose: Refer to label instructionsDieters who are gluten or dairy sensitive and looking to supplement protein might consider rice protein, though its actual benefits for weight loss have not been studied.

Rice protein is extracted from rice and used in some protein supplements. Vegetarians may prefer it over protein supplements made from animal sources (such as whey or casein, which are milk proteins). Since rice is rarely involved in food allergies,1 rice protein may also be preferred by people with food allergies, and may be suitable to use in hypoallergenic infant formulas.2 Rice protein is not a complete protein, however, due to insufficient levels of the amino acids lysine and threonine.3, 4 Therefore, these amino acids are often added to rice protein products to correct this imbalance.

BSN cookies and cream taste is real good compared to some nasty purchases i made before. I enjoy it. Now does it taste like actual cookies and cream ice cream or milkshakes? No but its hella close to it. Overall im happy with my BSN purchase and i recommend it for the mornings, after your works outs, and from time to time a 3rd in the evening.

The best protein mix I've found! Great to drink on the way to the gym, the taste is very good, does not have that chalky taste or texture that you find in alot of protein drinks. Leaves me feeling full with just enough energy to get through an hour workout in the morning! It's worth the money!

            Comments about BSN® SYNTHA-6™ - Cookies & Cream:

I was excited when trying this. I was using Probolic SR before this so when I tasted Syntha 6 I was sold just on the taste especially with 1 percent fat free milk. My workouts are intense atleast 2 hours when I wake up they usually last 3 hours and sometimes 4 hours 6 times a week so what I take is important. This stuff was weak compared to Muscle Milk, Probolic SR, or even the GNC Brands. A few days after I started using this I was getting sore as it gets The only thing I had changed was the protein. I started having crashes mid day and was tired. Looked into it and realized this was a rip off all the things other proteins had in them were sold seperately as cellmass(good product love it). Switched my pre work out and added cellmass to my goodies then things improved. Switch to muscle milk things whent back to normall and cell mass is allmost obsolete for what I needed. Ive heard a lot of good things about this but it was ineffective with the workout routine I have. Its best to try something out and experiment before judging this was just my experience and im willing to give it another shot just not now. Learned a few lessons 1. taste aint everything 2. cellmass and superpump are awesome 3.Glutamine make sure what you take has plenty of it.

I take the product once before lifting, once after lifting, and once in the afternoon. The Cookies and Cream doesn't taste bad, but I've had better. It does satisfy my hunger cravings and it's only about 220 calories per 22g of protein.
