Health Notes

Zinc

Zinc
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

At the first sign of a cold, I start taking these lozenges, and usually, the cold doesn't develop. I've been using these for several years now, and have maybe had two colds develop. If you do happen to get a cold, keep taking these and it'll have a shorter duration. I work as an RN in a hospital and need to stay healthy. These do the trick!

Been using for years when I could find them. Used to use PharmAssure brand before dicontinuation. So glad to find these! Just let melt in mouth & don't drink or eat for half hour. Doesn't have a flavor or aftertaste, like other brands. I told a friend yesterday about it.

Before this I could never handle zinc. I tried it in pill form and also in the coldeze lozenges. I would immediately get sick to my stomach. I was reluctant to try these but happy I did. The flavor is good and the best part is they do not upsent your stomach at all.

recommended by a friend who also receives shots for allergies. On the rare occasion that I get sore throats now, I take a lozenge each hour. I rarely need more than 3. Amazing results; I've passed on this recommendation to numerous friends. I wouldn't be without these in my medicine cabinet.

Comments about GNC Ultra Zinc Lozenges®:

My 4-year-old daughter got eczema and I read that supplementing with zinc might help. I got her this stuff and within a week her eczema had almost disappeared. Then I stopped giving it to her and it came back. What I love about this supplement:-- It tastes great, even to my picky 4-year-old.-- It worked to cure my daughter's eczema. -- It has copper in it. I read getting too much zinc can cause a copper deficiency. I assume that getting more copper as well will help with that. -- It doesn't have any artificial colors in it. -- The lozenges are individually wrapped in foil: no lozenges spilled on the kitchen floor. It is kind of expensive, as far as zinc supplements go, and because of that I have been trying other kinds. Nothing else I've tried tastes good or is as effective. I'm not sorry for trying others, but I do feel like I wasted my money on them. Here are the other zinc supplements we've tried, along with the reason I don't like them as much: -- "Liquid Ionic Zinc" by Trace Minerals. [@] This liquid supplement tastes terrible. It says right on the bottle to take "with juice or food to mask the concentrated mineral flavor." They weren't kidding. -- "TheraZinc Echinacea Lozenges" by Quantum. [@] I was hopeful because they're "lozenges" so they're meant to be sucked on, not swallowed like a pill. And they're supposedly cherry-flavored. But they don't taste good. My 4-year-old daughter won't eat them. My 2-year-old son loves them, but he eats mud, so that doesn't mean much. ;-) -- "Zinc Lozenges" by Energen. [@] Again, the word "lozenge" made me hopeful, but these don't taste good. -- "Calcium Magnesium Zinc" by Solaray. [@] These are capsules full of powder. Since my daughter can't swallow pills, I thought I'd open up these capsules and put the powder into peanut butter that she could eat. That wasn't terrible, and she would eat it. They did not seem to be as effective in curing her eczema, and it was a bit of a hassle to have to prepare it with the peanut butter instead of just giving her a yummy lozenge. I wish these had copper in them as well. Although they didn't work as well, it's a lot less-expensive and is probably a good option. -- Cold-Eeze. [@] These are sticky and take a long time to eat. My daughter does not like the taste and I can't speak to the effectiveness as far as curing eczema (although I love them for their intended use of helping with colds). Because of the copper deficiency problem, I read that you shouldn't supplement for more than a week. Whenever my daughter is taking the zinc, her eczema improves, but when she's not taking it, the eczema flares up again. I'm still trying to figure out why she has a zinc deficiency in the first place, and trying to learn what I can do to remedy it with diet instead of supplementation, but in the meantime I'm really happy to have this product. If you can swallow pills, there might be something that works as well as this. But if you're trying to get a picky child to ingest zinc, there's nothing easier than these lozenges.

I absolutely LOVE these!!! My mother told me about them a few years ago when my son and I kept getting strep. We were getting sick with strep every month or 2 and we'd have to go to the doctor (which was getting to be really expensive)...it was crazy. My mom told me about the lozenges and sent them to us and we started taking them as directed. Well, that was 2 yrs ago and we've only had to go to the doctor a few times since then. Anytime we feel an illness coming on, we take a lozenge and within a few hours we feel A LOT better....it's great!!! I'm also someone who suffers from sinus infections and I've always had to go to the doctor for antibiotics because my body could NOT fight it on it's own...it was horrible. Now, if I start to get an infection, I take the lozenges as directed for a couple of days and my sinus infection goes away on it's own. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH GNC for your Zinc Lozenges!!!
