Athletic Performance
Dose: 20 grams daily up to 1.2 grams of per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

Whey protein may aid weight loss due to its effect on appetite. In a preliminary study, people were given 48 grams of either whey protein or milk protein (casein). Whey consumption resulted in more hunger satisfaction and reduced the amount of food eaten 90 minutes later compared with casein consumption.1 However, a double-blind study found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs body weight per day of whey protein for 12 weeks along with a low-calorie diet and a strength training exercise program lost the same amount of weight and body fat as did a control group that followed a similar program, but took a casein supplement instead of whey protein.2

Whey protein is a mixture of some of the proteins naturally found in milk. The major proteins found in whey protein include beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin. Whey protein has one of the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid scores (PDCAAS; a measure of protein bioavailability) and is more rapidly digested than other proteins, such as casein (another milk protein). 1

This product is a little on the pricey side, but the benefits are well worth the cost monthly. I do intense cardio training 6 days per week and the daily recovery is much quicker with this shake. Although other commenters have praised this product for building bulk muscle, I am female and have maintained a lean but very toned figure - so for the ladies, don't fear that this product may make you bulky, it just helps with strength, stamina, and recovery. I could imagine it would be a little annoying to mix if only using a spoon to stir, however I've found that the inexpensive "bullet" type single drink blenders work perfectly to mix it. The chocolate flavor is pretty tasty. Great product, and I will continue using it as long as GNC sells it.

    Looking for something like this product. Recently I have pushed my workouts to a new level and the other products were just not cutting it anymore. Took this after someone told me about it. After a good workout I put it with some milk and mix it up and it actually better than I thought it was going to. After taking it I feel rejuvenated and ready to workout pretty soon after.

      I work at GNC and this is by far the best all around protein we sell. Not only are the ingredients killer, the chocolate tastes amazing.       I use it before I go to work at UPS mix with milk, then when I get off work I take another. Sometimes I work out before taking the last shake. You do feel improvements and looks. Even though it is pricey get it when its on sale.

        I've been dieting and exercising for 11 months now pretty regularly. Weight lifting 4 days a week with cardio 6 days a week and 1 recovery/rest day. I started using this product about three months into this cutting phase, and I've gone from 250 lbs to 170 lbs. I take 1 level scoop with breakfast and every 2.5 to 3 hours afterwards with each meal. I know that sounds like a lot of protein throughout the day, but I'm on a 50% protein/30% carb20% fat diet and this helps me reach my daily protein goal without blowing my caloric goal. I've lost 80 lbs and have increased my muscle mass, as well as seeing strength and endurance gains in every muscle group. I also noticed a reduction in soreness and recovery time immediately. If you're dieting and watching calories, this product has a pretty good calorie-protein ratio. I'll continue to take this for the duration of my weight loss plan and any maintenance periods, but I may look into something different when I'm ready to start bulking.

            I Just got this product last week i tryed using it after 3 of my workouts. I have had a very hard time getting it to mix right. I have tryed a blender and that didnt even work well. Because of this its lumpy. I feel it was a waste of money I am going back to my weight fortress that was only 16$ it mixed way better and easier I didnt even need a blender.
