Health Notes

Carnosine

Carnosine
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

Comments about Life Extension® Super Carnosine -- 500 mg:

I have no idea about the product extending life; I bought this because L-Carnosine has been shown to prevent or slow the glycation process of a cell.
Glycation is the natural breakdown of cells & overall body due to our body's use of sugar and oxidation is the natural breakdown of cells/body due to its use of oxygen.
When a cell is using sugar instead of oxygen, the "self destruct" button within the cell is inaccessible, which means if something is wrong with the cell, and it needs to die instead of reproduce, it can't.

Supposedly, some studies found carnosine increased rat's lifespan, brain function, and "physical appearance." I'm not sure how to judge the physical appearance of a rat, (maybe all his wrinkles & crows feet went away?) but it does make logical sense that if it decreased the break down process of a cell, it would do it for our organs, and therefore our bodies. I guess time will tell, and since I've had no side effects, I think I'll keep taking it and see what happens a few years down the line.

(side note, carnosine and carnitine are very different and confused easily due to spelling- if you do research double check which one the article/study is about. Google was bad about "correcting" my spelling on it)
