In another controlled trial, overweight men were given a low-calorie diet along with a weight training exercise plan for three months. Men who followed this plan and also took 1.5 grams per day of predigested casein protein per 2.2 lbs body weight lost a similar amount of weight as did men using a similar amount of whey protein along with the same diet and exercise plan. However, the men using casein protein gained more lean body mass and lost more body fat than the men using whey protein.4

However, in two double blind trials, measurements of muscle protein synthesis after leg exercises were similar whether casein or whey protein (either 20 grams or 0.3 grams per 2.2 lbs body weight taken one hour after exercise) was consumed. Other double blind studies have shown that adding protein supplements to a weight-training program improves gains in muscle mass and strength, but only one trial has compared using casein alone to other proteins for improving body composition and muscle strength. In this controlled trial, overweight men were given a low-calorie diet along with a weight training exercise plan for three months. Men who followed this plan and also took 1.5 grams per day of predigested casein protein per 2.2 lbs body weight gained more strength and lean body mass, and lost more body fat than did men using a similar amount of whey protein along with the same diet and exercise plan.

      I take this every night. Yes, it's hard to mix, that's just the nature of some powders not being very soluble, get over it and keep stirring.
      I've gained 8 lbs in 7 weeks by taking this plus the whey in the morning and the Pro Perf AMP during workouts. 4 weight training days each week using the Jim Stoppani Shortcut to Size 12 week program.

        I love to have a casein shake every night before bed. I always get hungary at night so an awesome way to cure my sweet tooth without cheating is having my shake and I have a hard time going to bed without it. I usually blend it with ice and cinnamon, for a treat I add greek yogurt and sugar-free pudding! I am writing this review to get the the coupon for 10% off my next purchase after having the casein shipped to my house.

            I tried this cassein as the GNC store i went into did not have any other cassein options. I had originally gone there to get 100% Gold Standard but they only carried the Whey protein. I use cassein as a before bed drink and Whey as my post work-out drinks and last night was the first night i used this drink. It tasted terrible and I could not get it to mix for the life of me! While i normally do not have high expectations for GNC brand products, this was extra disappointing especially becuase i only purchased it becuase they didnt have what i wanted even though it is on the website. I do not know how the results will be from using this protein as last night was the first time i drank it. I'm not sure I will finish it, may just go to Vitamin Shoppe for the 100% Gold standard.

            If you are considereing a cassein protein, spend the extra money and do not buy this GNC brand.

              I use this protein, without fail, every night right before I go to bed. It tastes great, and is sweet and chocolatey enough to satisfy my late-night sweet cravings. It mixes really well, but is thick (as casein is SUPPOSED to be). Since using this powder I've noticed that I'm not nearly as sore the day after a workout, and I've started to notice more gains in my muscle development. I haven't got anything bad to say about it; it's working great for me!

                This is the first casien I have used. Didn't really know what to expect. Purchased to to take as meal replacement or before bed on workout days. Did not taste bad, but could use some improvement. Did not experience any clumping issues in blender bottle as some did. However I did decide to try as some suggested and use a blender to mix it. Also used milk instead of water and added 1Tbsp of peanut butter. The taste was wonderful with the milk and peanut butter. Have also noticed a decrease in soreness the morning after my workouts.

                  Only the second casein protein I've bought. Easy to mix but you have to use a lot more water than with a whey shake. I seem to be less sore the next day after working out not sure if that is all because of the protein though.
