The two most common forms of whey powder are "isolates" and "concentrates" and the type you choose makes the difference between an average supplement and superior one. Those in the industry understand that isolates are the superior protein. Whey concentrates contain less protein and more ingredients that are not desirable, like lactose and fat. The cleaner profile in isolates are more conductive for adding muscle and losing weight. Now all isolates are the same. Please take heed to other isolates on the market loaded with artificial sweeteners, such as sucrolose.

Whey Protein for Sports & Fitness

Whey Protein

Why Do Athletes Use It?*

Some athletes say that whey protein serves as another protein choice in their diets.

What Do the Advocates Say?*

Protein is necessary for rebuilding tissue-this is especially important for bodybuilders. All types of protein provide the body with amino acids. From an athletic point of view, whey is just another type of protein. Choosing whey protein over other types of protein simply adds variety to the protein choices available.

Whey is a common ingredient in many meal replacements, which are designed to provide a large amount of nutrients in a minimal amount of calories.

How Much Is Usually Taken by Athletes?

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength-training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength-training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

Comments about SDC Nutrition About Time-Cinnamon Swirl:

Too many protein supplements are loaded with aspartame and other artificial sweeteners that are low calorie but may be extremely bad for your long term health. About Time whey protein uses stevia, a natural and zero calorie sweetener. In my opinion it tastes better and studies have shown no negative health side effects. If you are serious about improving athletic performance and overall health than artificial sweeteners should be cut out of your diet. The fact that GNC, a health and nutrition brand, promotes and sells these products is a little disheartening, but what to do? On a side note all Whey proteins tend to cause stomach cramps and gas in the vast majority of users. If this bothers you take a look at a plant or meat based protein blend. Egg proteins and hemp proteins, although expensive, have amazing results without the stomach spinning.

Comments about SDC Nutrition About Time-Cinnamon Swirl:

I originally purchased the same brand in Cake Batter in the store, as recommended by the girl there and it was great; I made cinnamon swirl protein bread with it, and it became a craving. I decided to actually try the Cinnamon Swirl flavor once the one I had was gone and it is actually better on it's own than the Cake Batter--it has a more distinct flavor.

Not sure on how effective the protein is; as I have not dabbled in and noticed a difference in too many yet. I usually just want to get at least 20 g of protein every 3 hours and after a workout. I'm sure after more experience I'll be able to give a better review of that standpoint.

I love that it has 25 g of quality protein for only 103 calories! What a deal!

I drink this if I work out late in the day and am too tired to make anything before bed. I will mix it with hydrating coconut water. It's yummy, doesn't taste "fake", and fills me up and feels substantial. It's the perfect protein.

Comments about SDC Nutrition About Time-Cinnamon Swirl:

I am looking for a good Whey Isolate drink for before and after workouts. Was using Unjury Chocolate flavor.(Very good but too expensive) I saw this flavor and ingredients and was thinking would be awesome. It seems to be good product but flavor was very weak. a hint of sweetness and more like milk flavor. I was mixing with 4 oz water for 1 scoop. It says add 8oz to 1 scoop in directions which that was worse. I like how simply the ingredients are and that they are 100% isolate. I am going to give the chocolate a chance. I just hate making a [$] mistake.

I added About Time Cinnamon Swirl to my oatmeal this morning for a surprising treat. I am an avid runner and this combo is perfect for me. I never wanted to use a supplement because of all the artificial sweeteners. Now I can get the protein I need without being weighed down with fats and carbs. It is a must try.
