The Basics
The glycemic index is a measure of the ability of a food to raise blood sugar levels after it is eaten. When a person's blood sugar rises, insulin is produced to counteract it. High levels of blood sugar and insulin can lead to problems like weight gain, insulin resistance, hypoglycemia, and heart disease. Choosing foods that have lower glycemic indices can help minimize or avoid these problems.

- A value less than 55 indicates a low-glycemic-index food.

The glycemic index compares the blood sugar response to a particular food with the body's reaction to pure glucose, which is given the value of 100. For example, if a food raises blood sugar only half as much as pure glucose, that food is given a glycemic index of 50. The portion size used to test the glycemic index of various foods is the amount that contains 50 grams of carbohydrate. Some research has used white bread instead of glucose as the standard of comparison for determining the glycemic index of foods. The glycemic index of a food is governed by several factors, such as the form of carbohydrate it contains, the amount and form of fiber it contains, how much processing and cooking it has been subjected to, and the presence of other substances such as protein and fat.
Glycemic load is a related measurement calculated by multiplying the glycemic index of a food by the amount of carbohydrate contained in a typical serving of that food, and then dividing the result by 100. Glycemic load may be more reliable than glycemic index as a predictor of how a food will affect the blood sugar level. That is because some foods with a high glycemic index (such as carrots) contain such a small amount of carbohydrate in a normal serving that they would not be expected to raise the blood sugar level very much. Carrot juice, on the other hand, which contains a relatively large amount of carbohydrate, would produce a substantial increase in the blood sugar level.

Week one and down 6 lbs. Have been using it 3x a day with the exception of yesterday where I did 2x a day plus a protein bar. Yesterday I was really wanting food, not just liquid, so I had a protein bar. Also experimenting with flavors and so far my favorite is to use it in dark chocolate almond milk or to make a "pumpkin pie" shake by adding 2 T. canned pumpkin, 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice and 2 packets of Truvia to original almond milk + almased. Mix up in a blender with ice.

Started 04/22/2013 on the two week Almased Shake Fast. As of TODAY, I have lost 19.1 lbs. The taste was a bit bland, so to help me acquire a taste for Almased, I added 1/8 tsp extracts per shake of different flavor extracts, i.e. vanilla, banana (favorite), mint, strawberry, coffee, etc. You can add cinnamon too. Sometimes I add 1 tsp of cocoa per shake to kick it up a bit. I have three shakes per day. I use a blender and a spoon to stir while between sips. And, I savor the taste of vegetable broth 2 times per day; one mid-afternoon, the other for dinner. I drink 2 c. Green Tea per day; and LOTS OF WATER! I have a home gym-I work out on my tread mill 30 min., and other cardio gym equipment each day. What I posted is ALL that I consume daily; no alcohol, coffee, or anything else! I am SERIOUS about my weight loss-I am tired of caring around extra pounds!
Today, I was able to put on a pair of pants that I haven't been able to fit into for years. Other than the obvious weight loss, big BONUS: I have no more joint pain, no more aches or pains, I sleep soundly at night, and I wake up refreshed. I had not been able to grip with my right hand for years, now I can. And, I have more energy. My husband loves it! What more could I ask for! Been on this for 3 wks lost 7lbs and a couple of inches. Followed instructions exactly, I use it mainly for breakfast/dinner. After the weekends, which is usually the hardest part for me, I go back to the fast for three days. You really have to use a blender to mix. I add 1tsp of Orange flavor metamucil (since this made me constipated) and 1 tsp of Walnut Oil. I think the longer you take it your taste buds adapt. Yes, I do workout various days of the week or if I am too lazy I go for walks. I am satisfied with the results thus far.

When I Started Almased; I weighted in at 172.6 my body fat was 43%. I know horrible. After 1week my body fat-decreased to 29.1% my weight was at 172.0. Which is awesome! I work out 30 mins day with a combination of cardio/strength aerobics. I prepare my Almased drinks with 1 tablespoon of milled flaxseed and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Taste great. I consume Almased for breakfast and before bedtime. This products really works for me; It targeted my body fat which was the most important # on a scale.

I have been using this product for 5 days now. Strictly following the rules of 3 shakes a day with only vegetable broth to eat. Have lost 6 pounds so far! I mix with skim milk and add cinnamon and a little splenda to get the shakes tasting decent. Did try adding a splash of coffee creamer this morning as well and that was a plus! Hope to see continued results.
