Athletic Performance
Dose: 20 grams daily up to 1.2 grams of per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day

Animal studies suggest that whey protein can increase gains in lean body mass resulting from exercise.1 A controlled trial found that six weeks of strength training while taking 1.2 grams of whey protein per 2.2 of pounds body weight per day resulted in greater gains in lean body mass, but improved only one out of four strength tests.2 Another controlled study found that people taking 20 grams per day of whey protein for three months performed better on a test of short-term intense cycling exercise than people taking a similar amount of milk protein (casein).3 However, a double-blind trial found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs of body weight per day of predigested whey protein for 12 weeks along with a strength training exercise program gained only half as much lean body mass and had significantly smaller increases in strength compared with men using a similar amount of predigested casein along with strength training.4 A controlled study of HIV-infected women found that adding whey protein to strength training exercise was no more effective than exercise alone for increasing strength or improving body composition.5

Whey protein may aid weight loss due to its effect on appetite. In a preliminary study, people were given 48 grams of either whey protein or milk protein (casein). Whey consumption resulted in more hunger satisfaction and reduced the amount of food eaten 90 minutes later compared with casein consumption.1 However, a double-blind study found that men taking 1.5 grams per 2.2 lbs body weight per day of whey protein for 12 weeks along with a low-calorie diet and a strength training exercise program lost the same amount of weight and body fat as did a control group that followed a similar program, but took a casein supplement instead of whey protein.2

Whey protein is a mixture of some of the proteins naturally found in milk. The major proteins found in whey protein include beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin.     I use this product twice a day. I take one scoop in the morning, with my breakfast. I take a second scoop after I work out (normally weight lifting). The product tastes great, and is easy to mix with water or milk. The product does well for muscle recovery, and especially does well for increasing muscle strength.

    I consume this after every strength training workout just before my HIIT cardio for a bit of recovery so I won't be worn down throughout my cardio. I love the flavor, it's by far the best tasting chocolate protein I have found, and have no complaints other than it is a bit pricey, so I usually stock up when I see it on sale or with some promotion going on.

      I've been meaning to try AMP line of whey protein ever since it was introduced but never could justify the cost. I bought a few jugs from GNC.com on sale, which brought the cost to a competitive level.
      My usual goto whey protein is Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard because of its taste, ease of use (mixes super well) and reasonable price. So comparing the two, I can say AMP is more effective, slightly more clumpy and has a hint of after taste that's not all pleasant. One thing I did notice right away was how fine the powder is. You definitely want to be more careful when dumping it into your shaker so you do not suffocate in a whey protein cloud. I can't be certain but it did give off the impression that it may be higher quality and easier to absorb. As far as it clumping and the after taste, it really isn't too bad. I've had my run-ins with grocery store brand wheys and AMP is no where near that bad. I just may have been spoiled by ON whey.
      With all that said, I just ordered 3 more jugs on sale. I would definitely recommend these as a "go to" whey protein if they can be had on a sale.

        Great taste and very easy to mix. I use mine after workout, but will probably be using before and after workout now. Easy to mix with blender ball, not sure why people say it doesn't mix easy. I take mine with water and the taste is the best I have had. I will definitely be buying more of this.         I'm on my second tub of this protein and I work out in the mornings 4 days a week. I mix a shake after I workout and another one in the evening. On non-workout days I just have one shake in about the middle of the day. I have experienced a couple pound weight gain and some improvement with this protein. I'd say this protein is more of a maintain protein than a gainer or alike. It's easily the best tasting protein I've ever had, but it's unbelievably overpriced. I'm going to have to keep looking for a different protein because I'm not exactly seeing the results I'd like with it.
