Health Notes

Amino Acids Overview

Amino Acids Overview
  • Reliable and relatively consistent scientific data showing a substantial health benefit.
  • Contradictory, insufficient, or preliminary studies suggesting a health benefit or minimal health benefit.
  • For an herb, supported by traditional use but minimal or no scientific evidence. For a supplement, little scientific support.

Our proprietary "Star-Rating" system was developed to help you easily understand the amount of scientific support behind each supplement in relation to a specific health condition. While there is no way to predict whether a vitamin, mineral, or herb will successfully treat or prevent associated health conditions, our unique ratings tell you how well these supplements are understood by the medical community, and whether studies have found them to be effective for other people.

For over a decade, our team has combed through thousands of research articles published in reputable journals. To help you make educated decisions, and to better understand controversial or confusing supplements, our medical experts have digested the science into these three easy-to-follow ratings. We hope this provides you with a helpful resource to make informed decisions towards your health and well-being.

This supplement has been used in connection with the following health conditions:

Used for AmountWhy
Liver Cirrhosis
18 grams daily of L-ornithine-L-aspartateas L-Ornithine-L-Aspartate2 stars[2 stars] As both a supplement and injection, L-ornithine-L-aspartate has been shown to significantly improve liver function, mental status, and brain function.
Alcohol Withdrawal
Refer to label instructions as L-Tyrosine, D,L-Phenylalanine (DLPA), L-Glutamine, L-Tryptophan, and a Multivitamin1 star[1 star] In double-blind research, alcoholics treated with L-tyrosine combined with DLPA (D,L-phenylalanine), L-glutamine, prescription L-tryptophan, plus a multivitamin had reduced withdrawal symptoms and decreased stress.
Athletic Performance
Refer to label instructions as Aspartic Acid1 star[1 star] Aspartic acid is an amino acid that participates in many biochemical reactions relating to energy and protein. Research suggests that it may help reduce fatigue during exercise.

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. The essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Another amino acid, histidine, is considered semi-essential because the body does not always require dietary sources of it. The nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine. Other amino acids, such as carnitine and taurine, are used by the body in ways other than protein-building and are often used therapeutically. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea that is said to help relieve stress. Beta-alanine has been used to prevent fatigue during exercise.

Comments about Dymatize® Nutrition Elite Recoup - Orange:

This is a great product. I think the taste is great. I love the orange flavor. If I have a just a normal 5k run or workout, then I usually do one scoop and that is enough to help me feel normal the next day. However, sometimes I use 2 scoops if it was an intense workout. Before I started taking this after workouts, I felt really lousy the next day and it took a while for my body to recover. Now I can hit another workout the next day with no problems.

I also use this after Karate workouts which is lot more whole body exercise than targeted training - it works great. I would give it five stars if it was a little easier to mix, it just takes a lot of shaking to get it mixed up well.

Comments about Dymatize® Nutrition Elite Recoup - Orange:

It is easy to mix and gets really foamy which is the worst part. I could tell a big difference the day after my workout. I was still sore but I felt great and I hit my workout just as hard if not harder. The worst thing is the taste. It's like sour O.J. even with ice cold water.
