Refer to label instructions as Aspartic Acid1 star[1 star] Aspartic acid is an amino acid that participates in many biochemical reactions relating to energy and protein. Research suggests that it may help reduce fatigue during exercise.

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Twenty amino acids are needed to build the various proteins used in the growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues. Eleven of these amino acids can be made by the body itself, while the other nine (called essential amino acids) must come from the diet. The essential amino acids are isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Another amino acid, histidine, is considered semi-essential because the body does not always require dietary sources of it. The nonessential amino acids are arginine, alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, glycine, proline, serine, and tyrosine. Other amino acids, such as carnitine and taurine, are used by the body in ways other than protein-building and are often used therapeutically. L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea that is said to help relieve stress. Beta-alanine has been used to prevent fatigue during exercise.

    The first month you double up on the dosage and then cut back to 2 a day. It does give you a little tingling feeling in your body about 15 minutes after you take it. Your body gets used to that after about 1 month.
    Seems to help fend off fatigue while I am riding.

      Power bar's High Intensity beta alanine is the first supplement armed with evidence to hit the sports scene since creatine was discovered when it comes to supplements above & beyond the traditional rock solid carb, electrolyte fortified sport drink, whey protein and chocolate milk for athlete's performance & recovery.
      Beta Alanine helps to keep carnosine levels maintained, helping muscles to stay buffered, increasing a player's capacity for training, increasing time to fatigue. Supplementing with beta alanine has been associated with improved strength, anaerobic endurance, body composition, & performance on various measures of anaerobic power output.
      In my latest book, Performance Nutrition for Football (Momentum Media, 2010) I highlight the benefits for football. In one study, football players who worked out 5-days/week with repeated sprints, low work-rest ratios, 3x/week & Olympic power-lifting 4x/week, taking 1.5 grams of beta alanine plus 15 grams sugar (about the amount of sugar in 8 ounces of sports drink) gained an average of 2.1 pounds of lean mass compared to controls who gained 1.1 pounds in the same 8 week training cycle. Another study on 46, 22-year-old men showed that beta alanine can result in greater training adaptations in 3 weeks of high intensity interval training.
      The benefits are not limited to football players. As a long distance, multisport former pro triathlete, I can testify as I am picking up my training and racing, gearing up to qualify for a world championship race, competing at all distances to test drive my speed, strength and endurance, I feel significantly different with Power bar's High Intensity beta alanine relative to other brands that I have tried. Since carnosine is synthesized from two amino acids (AA) beta alanine & histidine, it appears that vegetarians may especially benefit from the supplement since levels of AA might be lower than carnivores.
