WHOLE FOOD ENHANCED MULTIVITAMIN FOR MOM AND BABY
- 1,000 mcg of folic acid to support healthy fetal development
- 600 mg of bone-strengthening calcium
- Clinically studied iron shown to be easy on the stomach
- Fruits & vegetable blend with ginger to support digestion and comfort the stomach
Nutritional Support- Supplies a balanced nutritional blend combining vitamins and minerals with 350 mg of a new premium fruit and vegetable blend for antioxidant support to supplement a healthy diet. Emerging research suggests that including green foods as part of a healthy nutritional plan can have a variety of health-enhancing effects and can help support overall wellness. This nutrient-dense multivitamin formula containing blends made with whole foods also includes ginger and peppermint, traditionally used to soothe the stomach and support digestion.
- Provides 1,000 mcg of folic acid, critical during the earliest weeks of pregnancy when a baby’s organs are forming. Adequate intake of folic acid in a healthy diet before and in early pregnancy may reduce the risk of birth defects of the brain and spinal cord.
- Features 600 mg of bone-strengthening calcium which is vital during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester when fetal bones begin to calcify. If a mother’s calcium level drops, her body can pull calcium from her bones resulting in loss of bone density. Also includes 400 IU of vitamin D-3 to enhance calcium absorption.
- Contains 18 mg of clinically studied Gentlesorb Iron™ shown to be gentle on the stomach. Iron is necessary to support placental and fetal needs and a mother’s increased blood volume.

Prenatal Vitamins Support Full-Term Pregnancy
Prenatal Vitamins Support Full-Term Pregnancy
Multivitamin use around the time of conception could be a safe and simple strategy to improve pregnancy outcomesPrenatal multivitamins help pregnant moms to fill gaps in their diet and meet their own-and their baby's-special nutritional needs. Now researchers have found a link between taking multivitamins around the time of conception and prevention of early births and births of babies born smaller than normal for their gestational age.
Nearly 36,000 women participating in the Danish National Birth Cohort, a large ongoing study of pregnant women and their children, were included in the study. All of them reported using multivitamins, just folic acid supplements, or no supplements in the 12 weeks around conception: 4 weeks before the last menstrual period until 8 weeks after.
Multivitamins improve the odds
The women were followed until after delivery and were monitored for preterm births (delivery before week 37 of pregnancy) and births of babies that were small for gestational age (weight, length, or head circumference below the tenth percentile for the number of weeks of pregnancy). These are important measures of newborn health because infants born preterm or small for gestational age are at greater risk for a wide variety of health and developmental problems.
When the researchers looked at birth outcomes and vitamin use, they found the following:
- Taking multivitamins around the time of conception was associated with a 17% lower risk of small-for-gestational-age births in all women. This effect was strongest in women who took multivitamins in the weeks after conception.
- In women who were not overweight prior to pregnancy, taking multivitamins around conception was associated with a 16% lower risk of preterm birth.
- Multivitamin use did not affect risk of preterm delivery in women who were overweight prior to pregnancy. (These women are already less likely to deliver preterm.)
- Taking folic acid alone had no effect on risk of preterm or small-for-gestational-age births.
Having a healthy pregnancy and birth
"It may be that multivitamin use around the time of conception could be a safe and simple strategy to improve pregnancy outcomes," the study's authors said in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, while pointing out that more research is needed to show this definitively.
In addition to a multivitamin, there are a few other key supplements that you can consider taking during pregnancy:
- Omega-3 fatty acids. We get these from eating fish, but due to pollutants like mercury and PCBs, pregnant women should eat fish judiciously (perhaps no more than 2 helpings a week). Supplementing with omega-3 fats during pregnancy has been shown to help ensure full-term births and healthy-sized newborns.
- Vitamin D. Most of us don't get enough sun all year to maintain healthy levels of vitamin D, and some research suggests that pregnant women with low vitamin D levels are more likely to deliver preterm.
- Iron, folic acid, and zinc. Low levels of these nutrients during pregnancy are associated with poor birth outcomes. If you don't take a prenatal multivitamin, remember to stay on top of these nutrients.

Comments about GNC Ultra Mega® Green Prenatal:
I've just finished my first bottle and I must say, I really enjoyed it. I only took 2 a day like someone's review has reccommended and I've never felt better. This is my first pregnancy so my review is biased, but I can attest to the fact that I haven't thrown up once yet and I'm in my 9th week, which I think is Wonderful. There has been nausea but it's never led to further sickness. All other symptoms are prominent and I'm still moody, but I have techniques to control that.
SO, I feel great about the product, after reading the other reviews, I'll only be using these for the first trimester, and maybe half of the second, then try something else for the sake of my breast milk supply, but I really liked this and I will Definitely be using it again the next time.Pros

Comments about GNC Ultra Mega® Green Prenatal:
I have used up 1 whole bottle of these prenatal vitamins and have been VERY Satisfied.. HOWEVER, Reading about the VITAMIN A WARNINGS, that pregnant woman should not have too much because of birth defects, alarmed me... Did my research on this to find that Vitamin A comes in 2 forms. #1 Retinyl Acetate (ANIMAL) & #2 Beta-Carotene (PLANT). Reading the label on my empty bottle I found 4500iu of Vitamin A (Beta-Carotene) which is completely SAFE as we cannot exceed recommended amounts of 10,000 iu's per day. Then, I review the label info on the website and find that it lists Vitamin A 4500IU Retinyl Acetate, which is a much stronger compound of Vitamin A compared to Beta-Carotene! HUH? Not saying if Retynl based, it is considered unsafe, but it is definitely stronger then vegetable compound, so US AS PREGNANT WOMAN who look for FACTS of supplements we are ingesting for the sake of our unborn babies, this is a big STOP SIGN FOR ME.. What was I taking? 4500iu's of RETINYL ACETATE or BETA CAROTENE VITAMIN A??????? I will check in with you after I call the company and find out.. .Not buying another bottle until I find out why this was labeled two different things from bottle to website info...

Comments about GNC Ultra Mega® Green Prenatal:
I have been taking these since I found out I was pregnant except for a few weeks of trying out the Dr. recommended Rx formulas. Even though my Dr. gave me samples of the other vitamins, she said these would be acceptable too (nutrition, efficacy, etc.) I noticed less nausea in my first trimester and better digestion throughout with these; in fact, if I miss a day, I notice a huge difference in my mood and level of energy.

Comments about GNC Ultra Mega® Green Prenatal:
Seems like a great idea--it never hurts to find a way to get more fruits and veggies in one's diet! However, nursing mothers should be aware that even though this is marketed towards you, the vitamin contains peppermint which is known to reduce milk supply. I started taking this vitamin well after my supply had been established and experienced a noticeable drop in supply (I had to give up pumping because of it).
Without the veggie powders, it's pretty much the same as the plain GNC prenatal, only more expensive and you have to take 3 instead of just 2.Pros

Comments about GNC Ultra Mega® Green Prenatal:
I think these are fanatstic vitamins!! I used them prior to getting pregnant on the advice of my doctor to help with fertility. And they worked!!!Now I'm taking them as my prenatal. Eventually I'll have to be prescribed a vitamin higher in iron but that's not till later in my pregnancy. As far as the comment about how high in Viatmin A this product is - I'd like to respond by saying all the Viatmin A in the Ultra Mega Green Prenatals is Beta-Carotene derived. Its non-beta-carotene Viatmin A (retinol) that has been linked to birth defects but only in high doses. From what I understand, the recommended dosage is 4000 IU-8000 IU (some of it does come from our food, though). Beta carotene is the safest way to go and has minimal overdose toxicity.

Comments about GNC Ultra Mega® Green Prenatal:
I've always been a loyal customer to GNC brand vitamins. I mainly purchased this product because it has the GentleSorb Iron. Although this product is easier on my stomach...it simply has too much Vitamin A for a person being pregnant and a breastfeeding mom.
Too much Vitamin A can cause birth defects. The recommended dose for a pregnant woman is 2565IU of Vitamin A, a breastfeeding mom requires 4330IU of Vitamin A. Just 3 caplets of this prenatal vitamin is 4500IU of Vitamin A, which is 1935IU too much for a pregnant woman, and 170IU too much for a breastfeeding mom.
Overall, I do think this prenatal vitamin is GREAT...I just wish they would indicate it somewhere on the labeling for pregnant moms to just take 2 caplets, and breastfeeding moms to take 3 caplets. Until then, I am going to have to take 2 caplets a day instead of 3...and then just adjust my diet accordingly so that I do get enough vitamin A.Pros
