Superfoods Matcha Latte

Take a mental break and enjoy this expertly crafted matcha latte! If you aren’t familiar, matcha is a finely ground Japanese-style green tea powder that keeps making the list of trending superfoods for its antioxidant properties. Plus, it’s a natural source of caffeine—and who doesn’t love that?

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 tsp. Sunfood Super Foods Organic Matcha Powder
  • ½ cup milk of your choice—such as skim, 2% or whole fat cow’s milk, soy milk or coconut milk (light or full fat will do!)
  • 1 Tbsp. sweetener—such as sugar, honey, maple syrup or stevia
  • 4 - 6 oz. water
DIRECTIONS

IDEAL KITCHEN UTENSILS FOR THIS RECIPE:

Foam is the foundation of any great latte, so if you don’t have one already, consider gifting yourself a hand-held milk frother! An espresso machine with a steam frother is another way to heat your milk and create a beautiful, thick foam. A bamboo whisk is ideal for combining the ingredients, but if you don’t own one, a spoon or blender would also work.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Method 1: Using A Bamboo Whisk

Start with heating the milk. If you have an espresso machine with a steam frother, use that. If not, heat the milk in a saucepan on the stove over a medium-high heat. The ideal temperature for frothing is between 140° and 160°.

Meanwhile, add matcha tea powder to a mug. Heat water to 160° (hot but not boiling) in a kettle or small saucepan, then pour the water into the mug. Whisk vigorously in a straight up-and-down, back-and-forth motion, for approximately one minute or until the matcha powder is completely dissolved.

Next, add your sweetener of choice. Whisk again until it is completely dissolved. At this point the mixture should start to resemble a green paste.

Add the hot milk, and stir until combined. Serve hot and enjoy!

Method 2: Using A Spoon

Heat milk as instructed above.

Add matcha tea powder to a mug. Heat water to 160° in a kettle or small saucepan, then pour the water into the mug. Use a spoon to stir the mixture vigorously. If the mixture is clumping, use the back of the spoon to smash the powder against the side of the mug. Then add sweetener of choice.

Add the hot milk and stir until combined. Serve hot and enjoy!

Make Your Latte Extra Lovely

Once the milk has settled in your latte, use a spoon to remove the top layer of froth/foam. Use a spoon to place a circle of foam in the middle of the mug, then use the spoon to create a heart shape or smiley face on the top of your tea latte. Sprinkle with matcha powder for a little extra decoration!
