GNC: QUALITY YOU CAN TRUST
GNC: Quality you can trust | The shopping experience | Company history: Our roots were firmly planted in good health
At General Nutrition Centers, we've been developing quality products for more than 70 years, and we’ve built a business on the products and information our customers need to maintain healthy lifestyles. Throughout the past several generations, we've listened to your needs and have responded with the largest selection of nutritional supplements available today.
We have set the standard in the health and nutrition industry by demanding truth in labeling and ingredient safety and potency, while remaining on the cutting-edge of nutritional science. We are one of the world's largest companies devoted exclusively to improving the quality of lives: by providing better nutritional information, encouraging healthy decision-making and ultimately, lending a hand to healthier living.
From scientific research to manufacturing and packaging processes to the way we interact with customers in our stores, GNC takes on each role with rigorous quality and customer satisfaction in mind.
The Science Behind The Products
"Quality first" is a fundamental principle that guides every aspect of GNC's business, including our constant attention to new research and scientific discoveries. Each year, GNC spends millions of dollars researching and developing leading-edge products, and bringing them to market as quickly as possible. Remaining on the cutting-edge of nutritional research and industry development is a responsibility we take seriously. In fact, we conduct many of our own studies on product ingredients, to authenticate each particular claim or benefit before passing it on to our customers.
Our scientists meet with university researchers, doctors, nutritionists and other health care experts on a regular basis to ensure that we're providing products and services that meet the demands of consumers. Maintaining close relationships with research institutions also allows us to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information in our stores.
Our research team also stays on top of the latest clinical research affecting our products and our industry. Results from clinical studies can play a valuable role in strengthening and validating the marketing claims and efficacy of existing products and ingredients, and they provide the basis for new, more effective formulas.
State-Of-The-Art Manufacturing Facilities
GNC manufactures its own private-label products under its manufacturing arm, Nutra Manufacturing, Inc. Nutra, located in Greenville, S.C., is dedicated to producing the highest-quality supplements using the latest technology in state-of-the-art facilities.
GNC is committed to product quality and FDA labeling regulations; because you have the right to know what you’re putting into your body. Our products are tested and formulated to meet the claims made on our labels. GNC brand multivitamins go through 150 quality and safety tests – more than what’s required by the FDA! And every GNC brand product is subject to multiple checks before it arrives on a store shelf:
Raw materials testing Purity testing Potency testing Product freshness and package integrity Product traceability Microbiology testing
GNC's manufacturing facility is one of the world’s largest dietary supplement manufacturers, and product quality is our business.
Nutra prides itself on its ability to meet consumer expectations and satisfy product demand. From the moment raw ingredients enter the Nutra facility until the finished product appears in GNC stores, we work hard to ensure no detail is overlooked and each product provides maximum benefit to the consumer. And we can produce a supply to meet almost any demand – Nutra Manufacturing has the capacity to produce over 13 billion units of softgels, caplets and capsules each year – the equivalent of nearly 60 million bottles of product annually!
The Complete Package
When you read a GNC label, you know exactly what you're getting in that product. It's all part of our truth in labeling policy. We believe in disclosing important information to consumers, including all of the ingredients and potential allergens used in our formulations – even when it's not required. And all of our product labeling complies with the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) labeling standards.
GNC products are packaged with a wealth of quality information consumers can use to make informed product choices. Each GNC label features:
Easy-to-read product name Potency Delivery type (capsule, caplet, softgel) Supplement facts information showing ingredients in the formulation Clear directions for recommended use Evidence-based claims about product ingredients Allergen warnings (where applicable) Toll-free customer service number Date guaranteeing the contents are fresh and potent Tamper-evident packaging
Furthermore, our products are packaged in safety-sealed, tamper-evident packaging to provide an additional barrier of protection for our customers. This confirms GNC's commitment to manufacturing safe and effective supplements. It also helps guarantee the supplements you’re purchasing are the freshest, safest and highest-quality supplements available.
Our quality control testing extends through the packaging stage to ensure the packaging is safe and that it protects the freshness of the contents. Each product undergoes another set of individual tests, including a seal check, count check, expiration date check, carton check, label and bottle check, neckband check and lot number check. This series of checks and balances ensures that the product you are buying is truly the best available.
