Donations Made to Local and Regional Organizations Surpassed GNC’s Initial Goal

PITTSBURGH, March 26, 2024 GNC, the global powerhouse in health and wellness, today announced that the company donated $15.9 million in nutritional products to local and regional nonprofit partners. GNC’s new donation program launched in April 2023 as an initiative to serve local 501c3 organizations and support the fight against food insecurity in the Pittsburgh area and beyond.

According to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 1 in 8 U.S. households were food insecure throughout 2022. To help combat this, GNC focused on serving local 501c3 programs in Pittsburgh, starting with The Braddock Free Store, and later expanded to organizations in Indiana and Texas.

With an initial donation goal of $10 million in products, GNC ultimately surpassed that projection. From April through December of 2023, GNC donated 1.1 million units of 80 different products from the company’s vast portfolio of high-quality science-backed products, including 740,000 units of vitamins, minerals and supplements, 180,000 units of protein products, and 180,000 units of ready-to-drink products.

“As a company deeply invested in our communities, GNC is committed to partnering with local and national organizations to help in the fight against food insecurity,” says Rebecca Gardner, Sr. Director, Strategic Initiatives. “We are thrilled to have surpassed our initial goal to reach $15.9 million in donations and are planning to expand our donation program in 2024, which will enable us to send high-quality products to communities in need across North America.”

GNC’s donations started in April 2023 at The Braddock Free Store in Pittsburgh, followed by other local organizations including Light of Life Rescue Mission, Second Ave Commons, and Most Worshipful Prince Hall Lodge of PA. Donations to regional nonprofit organizations included Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Midwest Food Bank, Gleaners, and Catholic Charities in Indiana, as well as Dare 2, Inc. located in Dallas, Texas. In 2024, GNC will continue expanding partnerships with non-profit organizations and will join the Feeding America network in January as a donation supplier to send valuable products to those in need around the country.
