Get ready to celebrate with a protein-packed spin on a fan favorite – the cake pop! These delicious cake pops are loaded with extra protein, featuring birthday cake-flavored protein powder. And it’s not just ANY protein powder. GNC has teamed up with Marvel to launch a Captain America-themed protein flavor, GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Star Spangled Birthday Cake. Talk about fun and delicious!
These cake pops don’t just stop with extra protein. Here are some of the better-for-you swaps we’ve made to cut down on the fat and sugar:

• Unsweetened applesauce instead of butter or oil
• Egg whites instead of whole eggs with the yolk
• Greek yogurt for the frosting instead of sugar and butter

Happy baking!

Makes: Approximately 9 cake pops for adults (1 cake pop is approximately 1.5-inch in diameter)

Ingredients

protein cake pop

Cake Batter

  • 2 scoops GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein Powder – Star Spangled Birthday Cake
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 egg whites

Frosting

  • 1/4 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 scoop GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein Powder – Star Spangled Birthday Cake

Chocolate Shell

  • ½-1 cup white chocolate chips
  • Optional: Sprinkles

Other equipment needed

  • Ice cream scooper
  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • Popsicle sticks

Instructions

  1. The first step is to bake the cake. Start by mixing all cake batter ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  2. Pour the cake batter mixture into a 9-inch, greased baking tin and bake at 350 degrees for approximately 15 minutes until golden brown on the edges.
  3. Remove the cake from the oven and place it in the freezer to cool for 20 minutes.
  4. Remove the cake from the freezer and begin breaking it up and crumbling it into a large mixing bowl. Once the cake is crumbled into small pieces and crumbs, mix in the frosting ingredients. Use your hands to mix well. You want the consistency to be enough to hold the mixture together into balls.
  5. Using an ice cream scooper, scoop the mixture into 1.5-inch, equal-sized balls. Place a popsicle stick into the center.
  6. To create the chocolate shell, place chocolate chips in a small bowl and microwave for about 1 minute, stirring often, until melted and smooth.
  7. Place the stick in the cake pop.
  8. Dip the cake pop into melted chocolate, ensuring the entire ball is fully coated. Add sprinkles for an extra pop of color (optional).
  9. Store cake pops in the fridge until the chocolate hardens.
  10. Enjoy!
