THE SCIENCE BEHIND SLIMVANCE

Researchers have been investigating Slimvance for over a decade. In fact, GNC scientists worked together with the researchers to bring Slimvance to market. Let’s dig into the scientific journey.

To begin their investigation, researchers conducted an in-vitro study on mouse adipocytes. This involves taking fat cells (or adipocytes) from mice and performing different experiments using Slimvance. The results showed that Slimvance could help with weight loss in two ways: By increasing lipolysis (or the breakdown of fat cells) and by decreasing lipogenesis (or the creation of fat cells) [1].

Now that we understood the mechanisms for how Slimvance could work, three more clinical trials were conducted (but this time in humans). In the first human study, 50 obese subjects took Slimvance or a placebo for 8 weeks and followed a calorie-controlled diet and walked 30 minutes 5 days per week. At the end of the study, subjects who took Slimvance lost more weight than those who took a placebo [2]. In a second human study with 140 subjects, the time frame was doubled to determine the effects of taking Slimvance or a placebo after 16 weeks. Participants were also required to follow an 1800-calorie diet and walk for 30 minutes 5 days per week. At the end of the study, subjects lost an average of 11.7 lbs, which was nearly 10 more pounds than the placebo group. Interestingly, weight loss results began as early as 2 weeks. Not only that, Slimvance users lost an inch more around the waist and hips and had significant improvements in their triglyceride levels compared to the placebo group [3].

In a third study, researchers wanted to investigate the impact of consuming Slimvance in a once daily dose of 900mg (rather than twice daily dosing of 450mg) – to see how it affected metabolic rate and calories burning. In the study, 60 overweight adults took 900mg of Slimvance or a placebo for 7 days. Results showed that subjects who took Slimvance had a significant increase in resting metabolic rate, which equated to burning 175 more calories compared to the placebo group [4].
