Learn more about the changes you can expect to feel on the Women’s 50+ Routine.

Why a Multivitamin?

We can’t eat perfect all the time. Multivitamins provide key vitamins and minerals to help fill the nutrient gaps you may be missing from diet alone. Inadequate intake of nutrients over time is associated with long-term health effects. So, think of your multivitamin as nutritional “insurance”.

Women should look for a multivitamin specifically formulated for women, at doses to support their unique nutritional needs. But not all multivitamins are created equal. With decades of experience, a team of GNC Scientists and Registered Dietitians formulated a high-potency multivitamin and put it to the ultimate test in a clinical study.

One of the most exciting results of the study was that people taking GNC’s multivitamin blend reported feeling better when compared to a placebo. The study also showed that higher levels of nutrients in GNC’s multivitamin blend were observed/ seen in the body. This indicates GNC’s multivitamin blend outperformed the placebo and basic multivitamin for the absorption of B-vitamins, essential antioxidants, and immune-supporting nutrients.

Results specific to women after six weeks of supplementation include the following compared to those who took the placebo:

Improvements in blood levels of crucial B vitamins, crucial to energy production and metabolism:

  • 442% improvement in thiamin levels#
  • 993% improvement in vitamin B6 levels#
  • 207% improvement in pantothenic acid levels ^#

Improvements in blood levels of essential antioxidant and immune-defending nutrients:

  • 38% improvement in selenium levels#
  • 67% improvement in beta-carotene levels (a precursor to Vitamin A) #

Why Vitamin D?

Vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin” is something most of us (especially those residing in the northern hemisphere) don’t get nearly enough of each day. Found in few foods, dietary supplementation is one of the best ways to acquire your daily dose of vitamin D.

The unsung hero of bone health, calcium wouldn’t be where it is today without D. That’s because vitamin D promotes calcium absorption and helps to maintain the concentration of calcium and phosphate levels, ultimately regulating bone health.1

Bone density naturally declines with age. Women however, see a greater impact to bone health when compared to men, thanks to our good friend, estrogen. Why? Because estrogen is a key regulator of bone turnover and growth.2 And estrogen levels also decline with age. That makes it a double whammy—putting women at greater risk for weak and brittle bones later in life.

To help maintain and strengthen bones (and teeth), we’ve included 1000 IU of Vitamin D as part of our Women’s Strong and Steady Routine. Wash it down with some vitamin D fortified milk. Your bones will thank you.

^In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 112 healthy volunteers, subjects taking the GNC vitamin and mineral blends for six weeks experienced significant improvements in serum levels of certain key nutrients compared to a placebo and a leading multivitamin formula based upon multivariate statistical analysis of a group of B vitamins (thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, biotin, folic acid and vitamins B-6 and B-12) and key antioxidants and carotenoids (a group of beta-carotene, alpha-tocopherol, selenium, lutein and lycopene). Statistical improvements in SF-36 Vitality and Mental Health scores were also observed compared to placebo.

#In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 112 healthy participants (n=61 women), those taking the GNC vitamin and mineral blend for six weeks had statistically significant increases in serum levels of a group of B vitamins and a group of antioxidant and carotenoids based on a multivariate statistical analysis. Univariate analysis among women showed mean % change improvements in vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, thiamin, selenium and beta-carotene vs placebo.
