About the Author

A registered dietitian and culinary nutritionist, Laura M. Ali is on a mission to help you learn to love food, enjoy cooking, and find ways to live an active, healthy and vibrant life. She loves helping people find simple and delicious ways to incorporate healthy foods into everyday meals.


She received her bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Dayton and master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Pittsburgh and has been a trusted Registered Dietitian Nutritionist since 1987.


Laura is an award-winning registered dietitian and certified culinary nutritionist. She specializes in food and nutrition communications and recipe development. Laura has over 30 years of nutrition experience, having worked in clinical, retail, and the consumer-packaged goods industry.


Prior to becoming a nutrition communications consultant, she was the Senior Nutrition Manager at StarKist Co, and Principal Nutrition Scientist at Del Monte Foods. Prior to working for the food industry, Laura spent over 15 years as a dietitian at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where she worked with clients with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic medical conditions. As a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the International Association of Culinary Professionals, she gained additional experience in leadership, nutrition, and culinary nutrition.


In her free time, she enjoys spending time in her garden, taking long walks with her husband, exploring new restaurants and food shops, and pooch and traveling. She’s a long-time history buff and loves learning about food history and experimenting with old family recipes.
